Mr. Invincible (Imbattable or Unbeatable) is a Superhero French comic strip written and illustrated by Pascal Jousselin. Pascal makes creative use of the comic by exploiting its use of panels, colors, speech bubbles and the pages themselves

He's strong, he's humble, he's Invincible! The only real/true comic book superhero with the power to jump across the panels themselves ...he's not alone, there's Too-dee Boy

Volumes in the series:

  • Justice and Fresh Vegetables (7th April 2017)
  • Local Heroes (27th April 2018)
  • The Thugs' Nightmare (TBA)

This should not be confused with another superhero comic, Invincible.

Unbeatable Tropes:

  • Butt-Monkey:
    • The Meat Delivery Guy gets unknowingly screwed over twice by Toodee ...stolen then shrunk
  • Blank White Void: The margins surrounding the borders of the comic act as one called "The Great Beyond". Anything or Anyone (Including Mr. Invincible if he's not careful) that falls into it will disappear forever if they reach past the bottom of the page.
  • Cat Up a Tree: One of the examples of Invincible's fourth wall powers in the first volume is retrieving a cat stuck in tree by reaching down and taking the cat from a future comic panel from further down the page.
  • Loafing in Full Costume: Both Mr. Invincible and Toodee
  • Painting the Medium: The fonts of the characters' speech balloons are used to represent the particularities of their voices or their language. Toudi's font is wildly varying because his voice is breaking while people speaking a foreign language use a completely different font.

    Mr. Invincible (Unbattable/Unbeatable)
Our humble hero protagonist
Being a panel walker means he can traverse to different points of the comic by leaping across panels in any direction. Those without his Medium Awareness perform misidentify his powers as Stealthy Teleportation, time-travelling, duplicating himself and so on.
  • Power Incontinence: He cannot turn off his powers so he's liable to fall through the panels and into the Great Beyond when pushed with enough force or accidentally cause things to drop onto others in a later panel.
  • Stealthy Teleportation: What others mainly perceive his powers as since he seemingly vanishes and appears out of nowhere. In actuality, he's walking or jumping across panels of different locations to get to places instantaneously.

    Jean-Pierre
An everyday policeman and Mr. Invincible's partner and closest friend.
  • A Day in the Limelight: One story focuses on him as he visits the grave of his dead wife and then goes on to catch a culprit without the help of any superheroes (Although he does not know that the ghost of his wife helped him).
  • The Team Normal: He has no superpowers, but is a dedicated and competent policeman.

    Too-Dee Boy (Toudi)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/toudi.png
Mr. Invincible's faithful teenage sidekick who aspires to be a superhero under his apprenticeship but has to tackle puberty and his schoolwork first.
His power allows him to manipulate perspective and accomplish feats such as moving heavy objects from a distance and changing the size of anything.

Other Superpowered Individuals

    Grandpa Jack (Pepe Cochonnet)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jack_82.png
An elderly man
Actions speak louder than words have nothing on him when his Speech Bubbles can affect the physical world. With them, he can crush...
  • Berserk Button: He absolutely hates liars which is a surefire way to activate his powers to go on the offensive. Mr. Mayor learned this the hard way when he blatantly lied to Grandpa Jack's face about not tearing down the Bocce ball court only to do so anyway which set off the latter who proceeded to wreck the former's construction vehicles and equipment.
  • Emotional Powers: He has to be sufficiently angry in order to use his powers effectively which is represented by him turning red in the face.
  • High-Pressure Emotion: red in the face
  • Logical Weakness: Speech Bubbles
  • Mind over Matter: Since nobody can see his Speech Bubbles, the average person interprets his powers as an invisible force that can either be destructive to the surrounding area or make others float in the air.

    Chromaline
A French-exchange student in America who, along with her pet dog, is desperately trying to evade the military forces from using her as a weapon.
What are the sought-after powers you might ask, to change and control colours. Doesn't sound impressive given the powers we've seen beforehand but don't underestimate her as she can do loads with it.
  • Endless Daytime: By changing the blue skies to a bright yellow, she managed to wreck the entire city's sleep cycle for a whole week until Mr. Invincible and backup arrived to stop her.
  • Epileptic Flashing Lights: A different application of her blinding light is the pulsating, nausea-inducing colours she can add to it. However, this doesn't work on colourblind people like Toudee.

    Backwardspacker
An unnamed backpacker living her life backwards and trying to cope with it.
  • Blessed with Suck: Unlike the others who use their powers to their advantage and become superheroes or villains, she receives the short end of the stick of being burdened with living her life in reverse, one panel at a time. There is a side effect of her condition that duplicates any items she interacts with before they merge and/or outright disappear from existence so they can fit with her reverse-chronological state (She almost lost her backpack forever because of this).
  • Merlin Sickness:
  • One-Shot Character: She makes her sole appearance in Local Heroes since the backwards nature of her ability makes it impossible for her to cross paths with the main cast again.
  • No Name Given: The Backwardspacker goes unnamed in-story which leads to the placeholder nickname for the page.
  • Sdrawkcab Speech: A variation in that she's not talking backwards but rather in reverse chronological order which confuses and/or infuriates anyone she holds a conversation with.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Nobody seems to realise how she's moving in reverse except Mr. Invincible

Antagonists

    Mad Scientist
A mad scientist bent on taking over the world but is foiled every step of the way by Mr. Invincible. He's completely unaware of how Mr. Invincible's powers work but can somehow make inventions that copy them in a way.

    The Jester (Le Plaisantin)
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/the_jester.png
A supervillain and number one public enemy in Grandville spreading mischief and mayhem for kicks
His ability as a page-crosser lets him phase through the panels of adjacent pages
  • For the Evulz: The first thing he does after forcing the city to submit to him is ban potatoes just because it would annoy people.
  • Frying Pan of Doom: ...cause his first defeat
  • Intangibility: To those unaware of his true ability, he terrifies the people of Grandville by phasing through walls and even the air to unexpectedly pop up anywhere.
  • Logical Weakness: He cannot see what's on the other side of the page when walking into another panel unless he sticks his head out. This leads to his defeats, once when he was blindsided by a frying pan to the face and another when he knocks himself out due to being unaware of the self-duplication caused by his powers via Stable Time Loop.
    • Initially, Mr. Invincible wrongly deduced that The Jester can only phase through solid surfaces so everyone went on the rooftops to protect the mayor's kid, only for The Jester to phase through the air with no problem and kidnapped him just as planned.
