Role Play: Kingdom Hearts: Twilight of the Stars
A (long since dead) roleplay over in the TV Tropes Forum that was run by a succession of GMs (chronologically: The Great Pies Alt, Cygan Angel, then Sabre's Edge, Stephan Reiken and Legionnaire) Kingdom Hearts: Twilight of the Stars took place in its namesake universe, after the end of Kingdom Hearts 2. It's been a year since Sora and Co's final showdown with Xehanort himself, a fight that resulted in heavy sacrifices to finally gain victory. But in the wake of Xehanort's defeat has risen a new group, known only as the Men and Women in White. Strong enough to command the remaining Heartless and Nobody hordes, the two groups have been locked in a struggle for several months now, and the Heroes are slowly losing ground to their new foes.

The player characters, on the other hand, have been running about worlds trying to get everything in order. With several run-ins with both Heroes and Villains under their belt and the strange inability to manage to stay together for any length of time, it's up to the PCs to tip the delicate balance of power in either direction.

The character sheet can be found Here and the Recap can be found Here.

Now unfortunately ended due to real-life issues and lack of interest.

This game includes examples of:

  • Anyone Can Die: Lots of times, both with NPCs and actual player characters.
  • Awesome Personnel Carrier: subverted to an extent. There's nothing particularly awesome about the MT-LB that the group gets in the Potterverse, but the machine gun, motor, and light armor is better than walking.
  • Back-to-Back Badasses: Dantae and Altairen against a small Creeper army.
  • The Bus Came Back: Colette was "killed" for two months after her player went on hiatus. When he came back, so did she.
  • Crossover: With another RP on the forum, Tom Clancy's Harry Potter and the Muggle War, not to mention several characters from entirely different franchises such as Soul Eater and Nintendo.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Zeron's first run-in with one of the main villains ends badly—he never manages to gain a solid sensor lock against an ambush application of Shock and Awe.
    • Dantae, Altairen and Loki's fight against Erin went very poorly for the good guys.
  • Death from Above: flights of Wyverns and other airborne Heartless have proven extremely lethal against players without their own air support.
  • Groin Attack: Erin to Dantae, as a final link in the Humiliation Conga she put him through when he tried to fight back against her.
  • Hero of Another Story: The Canon characters are here, and have already had their final showdown with Xehanort. Also applies to almost every character, since everyone has their own plotline and fights, be they mental or physical.
  • Killer GM: The RP became significantly more difficult when Cygan Angel took over.
    • And now the two current GMs are doing their best to maintain a hard difficulty level.
  • Lotus-Eater Machine: Loki was trapped in one for a bit of non-fatal training. Good thing too, since a regular Ruler of the Sky would probably have killed her in seconds.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Nice job letting Yen Sid die, Heroes.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Herod: Nice job killing Vigil, Erin. Now he's stronger than ever.
  • No-Holds-Barred Beatdown: Confirmed by Word of God that Sora or Roxas (whoever gets there first) is going to beat the crap out of Vigil for essentially kidnapping Aqua.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: a dozen Creepers in a Zerg Rush versus two PCs? Normally, easy. A dozen Creepers with proper dive-bombing tactics, employed by a GM who punishes Hollywood Tactics? Significantly less easy.
  • Out-of-Genre Experience: the Wizarding World campaign takes place against the backdrop of an existing RP with a rather different style. It features political intrigues, a rather nasty civil war, and a shift closer to a Twenty Minutes into the Future war story than a Heroic Fantasy.
  • Scavenger World: the Buffyverse Los Angeles has shades of this.
  • Sergeant Rock: Sergeant Kamarov, to some extent.
  • Ship Tease: J/Collette. Later Jossed by Word of God.
  • The Siege: Happens to Traverse Town, by the Nobodies.
  • Surveillance Drone: the Potterverse team had one to help them out, until it was snatched out of the air by a Wyvern.
  • Shout-Out:
    • The Ruler of the Sky's Core reacts similar to an Angel, and Loki kills it the same way Shinji kills the Fourth Angel.
    • The entrance and exit process of the Dreamscape Loki is put into by Erin resembles The Animus.
    • For the duration that Traverse Town was sealed off, characters were introduced into the Buffyverse via a surreal subway ride, apparently managed by a man in blue.
    • The two gunrunner NPCs that Loki runs into are, per word of GM, references to two existing movie characters. The GM has challenged the players to figure out just who they're supposed to be.
  • Theory of Narrative Causality: this turns out to be the explanation for why the Romania/Potterverse crossover scenario is playing out so differently: the world lacks the "mystique" that empowers individual heroes and villains. Word of GM confirms this was needed to make the crossover function, and the justification was built into it so it wouldn't seem like an Ass Pull.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: no it doesn't, especially if it's not a purpose-built knife thrown by an untrained thrower. Kazuma learned this the hard way.
  • Trust Building Blunder: Happens a lot, mostly in regards to Canon characters. The Group is slowly getting better at it though.
