Lady Deathstrike puts a hold on her revenge to help Wolverine fight the Spirit Drinker.

  • Achilles' Heel: The only things that can really hurt the Spirit Drinker are adamantium and electricity, the latter doing it in.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: After Jubilee is drained, Wolverine blames the whole fiasco on Lady Deathstrike's quest for vengeance.
Wolverine: [cradling Jubilee] Have a good look, Yuriko. Here's your revenge. Are ya happy now?!
  • Big "NO!": Wolverine lets out one after the Spirit Drinker drains Yuriko's soul
  • Bittersweet Ending: The Spirit Drinker is defeated, and the minds of its victims are returned to their bodies, but Yuriko does tell Wolverine that while she owes him her life, it changes nothing between them. Also, the Professor senses the beginning of the Phoenix Saga.
  • Card-Carrying Villain: Jean refers to the Spirit Drinker's mind as truly repellent.
  • Combat Tentacles: The Spirit Drinker emits tentacles.
  • Dramatic Irony: The X-Men have no context for where this alien ship came from, even at the end of the story, but viewers familiar with the comics will recognize the ruthless being from Xavier's vision as the leader of the Shi'ar Empire.
  • Dramatically Missing the Point: Wolverine sternly tells Deathstrike that they mustn't let the Spirit Drinker escape to the surface, or it will drain everybody it comes in contact with. Deathstrike scoffs why should he care since humans hate them anyway. Wolverine tells her that's not the point.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: As Xavier discusses his visions, we see Lilandra (in a spacesuit) and D'Ken for the first time.
  • The End... Or Is It?: Though the Spirit Drinker is disposed of and the X-Men have custody of the alien ship, Xavier fears this is only just the beginning of their alien troubles. He warns he has seen visions of greater threats and mass destruction. The Phoenix Saga is about to begin.
  • Enemy Mine: Lady Deathstrike teams up with Wolverine to fight off the Spirit Drinker.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Wolverine doesn't really care for the Morlocks, but even he thinks them being at the mercy of the Spirit Drinker is a ghastly fate.
  • Fate Worse than Death: The Spirit Drinker's victims will eventually die, but not before being trapped in its mind and pleading in complete anguish.
  • Glowing Eyes: The Spirit Drinker's victims get eerie glowing eyes after it takes their souls.
Gambit: (looks at Jubilee's body and eyes) What is that thing? Petite's body look okay, but nobody home.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Jubilee shoves Gambit out of the way when the Spirit Drinker goes for him, resulting in herself getting drained.
  • Instant Expert: The psychic wave emitted by the ship and later touching the warning sign give Professor X the knowledge required to read the alien language and operate the ship's computer.
  • Irony: Gambit notes the futility of trying to stop a monster that they can't even touch.
  • It Can Think: The Spirit Drinker is not some mindless monster; it is a malicious entity. It even pulls off a trap to corner Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike.
  • Little "No": Wolverine, right after Jubilee is drained. Then he starts shouting.
  • Moment Killer: Scott and Jean are having a romantic dinner when Xavier contacts them.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After Jubilee is drained, the scene cuts back to the mansion and a regretful Xavier.
Xavier: Dear Heaven, what have we unleashed?
  • No One Gets Left Behind: Wolverine refuses to leave Jubilee's body behind, despite it hampering his escape.
  • No Sympathy: When Wolverine points out the Morlocks have been exposed to a real monster, Lady Deathstrike says they're getting what they deserve for stealing from her.
  • Only Sane Man: As Wolverine and Lady Deathstrike argue over who did what to cause this, Gambit advises they first put some distance between them and the Spirit Drinker.
  • Please Wake Up: After escaping the Spirit Drinker, Wolverine tries to wake Jubilee back up. He gets no reaction because she's not in her body anymore.
  • Race Against the Clock: The X-Men have to both find a way to free the Spirit Drinker's victims before they cease to exist and stop the creature before it reaches the surface.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After Jubilee is drained by the Spirit Drinker, Wolverine snaps.
Wolverine: YOU'RE DEAD! [slices its tendrils]
  • Regret Eating Me: When it looks like he's about to be drained, Wolverine intends to go down fighting and make the Spirit Drinker gag.
  • Sadist: Occasionally, images of the Spirit Drinker's victims appear in its forehead to plead for help. Jean determines the creature has a truly repellant mind, meaning it's doing this to taunt everyone.
  • Say My Name: Wolverine screams Jubilee's name after she is drained.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: Yuriko initially wants to bail, until Wade, Murray, and Pretty Boy plead for her help from within the Spirit Drinker
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: Xavier learns that the ship was a specially designed prison to contain the Spirit Drinker and keep it away from other living beings. Though it crashed on Earth, it was still able to contain the beast, until the end of the previous episode.
  • Shout-Out: The Spirit Drinker bears a noticeable resemblance to the Id Monster from Forbidden Planet. The episode description on Disney+ even makes note of this.
  • Soul Eating: The Spirit Drinker does this to its victims via Vampiric Draining.
  • A Storm Is Coming: Xavier has visions of planetary destruction, war, and the mad Emperor D'Ken.
Xavier: I fear this is only the beginning.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: Lady Deathstrike makes a dignified exit. The Reavers also fled after being returned to their bodies.
  • We Will Meet Again: Lady Deathstrike promises this to Wolverine before leaving.
  • What Measure Is a Mook?: Gambit asks Lady Deathstrike if she even cares about her men being claimed by the Spirit Drinker. She simply remarks that they knew the risks. Briefly subverted when it taunts her with their souls begging for help.
  • Wrong Assumption: Lady Deathstrike assumes the Spirit Drinker is guarding something truly valuable in the ship. It turns out that the ship was designed to imprison the creature.
  • Your Soul Is Mine!: It's not called "the Spirit Drinker" for nothing.
