The journey of the Brotherhood is cut short, as the harbor they wanted to use has sunk in the ocean years before. Stuck in Macheville and in need for rest and comfort, the group learns that the local Chaos Inn host the prestigious Bard Academy singing competition: the patron and founder of the Academy, Phil Armonique, is holding auditions, looking for new talents, but the participants are attacked by a mysterious masked man, the "Voice Thief", who uses a device to steal the voice of the competitors. Smelling the chance of a free night of rest, Ruel swears to help his former partner by capturing the Thief of Voices before he strikes again.

Tropes:

  • "Basic Instinct" Legs-Crossing Parody: Shannon Stone does the uncrossing legs scene while being interrogated by Ruel, Yugo and Dally.
  • Brick Joke:
    • After Kamarotti loses his voice, Phil reassures him that not everything is lost, and that with that type of voice he can still do great things. During the actual competition, we see Phil silently taking back those words upon hearing his performance with the new soprano voice.
    • Amalia at the start (and middle) of the episode flaunts her singing skills. Then she sings the theme song over the credits, ending up a little off-tune and making the last note so high she shatters the camera.
  • The Butler Did It: Played for laughs when Sadlygrove accuses (twice) the cook of being the criminal, because he got food poisoning. The actual Thief is Phil's grandson Aldwin, who serves at the Inn.
  • Diegetic Soundtrack Usage: The Sadida singer and later Grand Corp Petite sings part of the opening theme of Wakfu (the former collapsing before he can finish). Amalia sings the entire thing during the credits, if only slightly off tune.
  • The Ditz: When Kamarotti is interrogated by Dally he explains that he was on the stage when the Thief attacked him... and Dally promptly asks him what he was doing there on the stage... with Kamarotti patiently reminding him that 1) he was being attacked by the Thief, and 2) they were there too and saw everything, leaving Dally flabbergasted.
  • Dramatic Unmask: Parodied with the unmasking of the Voice Thief, which has several, overly-dramatic reaction shot from both the protagonists and the random extras around before we finally see his face.
  • Funny Background Event: The reactions of Ruel, Dally and Yugo in the background during the interrogation scene, such as the former two grinning like idiots when Lady Glagla flirts with Yugo.
  • Glass-Shattering Sound: Amalia sings the theme song during the credits, and at the end her voice causes the camera lens to crack.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Turns out Aldwin became the Thief because he thought his father was wasting time on talentless people and that he deserved much better.
  • Epic Fail: Ruel's first plan is to use Junior's sense of smell to hound the criminal... but the track is spoiled by Dally spreading grease all over the place as he's eating.
  • Expansion Pack Past: This is the episode where we learn that Ruel also used to be a "Precious Metal Singer" back with Phil Armonique. Too bad the two cannot even agree on what was the name of their band.
  • Harmless Freezing: How the Voice Thief is ultimately defeated thanks to Evangelyne's ice arrow.
  • I'm Standing Right Here: Dally accuses the chef of being the Thief... only for the chef to cough and tap him on the shoulder with an annoyed look.
  • Interrogation Montage: The second step of Ruel's plan has he, Sadlygrove and Yugo taking turns in interrogating the competitors. Highlights include each different singer speaking in a different tune, reflecting their musical style.
  • Instant Soprano: Thankfully not inflicted by a Groin Attack, Kamarotti goes from being a tenor to a soprano after his voice is stolen.
  • Kawaiiko: Lady Glagla, an overly-cutesy singer with a pink outfit and a star motif resembling a Japanese Idol.
  • Large Ham: The titular Voice Thief has quite the theatrical demeanor and talks as if he's singing opera sometimes.
  • Logical Weakness: Since the gun of the Thief operates on sound, the Brotherhood wears wax earplugs in the final confrontation... except that Dally forgets to remove them.
  • Male Gaze: Lady Glagla's peformance opens with a close up of her shashaying derriere.
  • Musical Assassin: The Thief of Voices uses a special gun to attack with paralyzing or destructive sound waves and steal the voice of people.
  • Nipple and Dimed: As a Freeze-Frame Bonus, Amalia's chest briefly dodges the Scenery Censor as she's sliding in the bathtube, showing a nipple.
  • Ocular Gushers: Lady Glagla, when she believes Yugo thinks she's guilty, much to the latter's embarrassment.
Yugo: Look, if I say I believe you will you stop crying, please?
  • Pretty in Mink: Shanon Stone's attire is complemented by a white fur rim around her shoulders.
  • Scenery Censor: When a naked Eva slips into the pool, she's covered by a black rubber duck with the smuggest face conceivable passing in the foreground.
  • Shout-Out: Most of the participants have punny names based on celebrities of music, such as Shanon Stone, Pandallica, Kamarotti and Lady Glagla.
  • Something Else Also Rises: When Lady Glagla remarks that Yugo is cute, the latter blushes while the "ears" of his hat suddenly rises.
  • Sympathy for the Devil: As they leave the inn, Amalia express some sympathy for Aldwin, claiming that she knows how he feels like, since being an artist is hard.
  • The Tease: Lady Glagla flirts with Yugo during the interrogation and later sends him a flirtatious blink during her performance.
  • Vaudeville Hook: The male Sadida singer collapses after a few notes and is dragged offstage by such an hook.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Amalia and Kamarotti after losing their voices to the Thief, as well a the Osamodas singer Grand Corp Petite, who despite looking like a child has a very deep voice.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Ruel and Phil Armonique were part of the same Metal Band... until they left over, as Ruel puts it, "artistic differences".
  • You Didn't Ask: Skribble plays this prank on the Brotherhood, leading them to the harbor of Macheville... which sunk years ago.
Evangelyne: Skribble, would you mind telling why you hid to us the fact that the harbor of Macheville has sunk?
Skribble: Because you didn't ask. How was I supposed to know that you wanted a working harbor?
