Tropes:

  • All Love Is Unrequited:
    • Prudence who is flirty to Charlie, who fake-dates Rose to avoid Prudence, and Rose loves Charlie who won't return her affection.
    • Jake is crushing on Prudence who is already engaged to her boyfriend Freddie.
  • Betty and Veronica: Rose is the Betty to Prudence's Veronica over Charlie's Archie.
  • Brick Joke: Berta mentions that her daughter Cheryl Ann is away 'selling bootleg Metallica t-shirts at a monster truck rally'. When Cheryl Ann later shows up with Berta to collect Berta's granddaughter Prudence, she is seen wearing a t-shirt with the band name misspelled as 'Mellatica'.
  • Bullying a Dragon: Charlie should've known better than to talk back at an bitter, angry snarky Berta. She just strips his bed of sheets as to do the laundry, disrupting him of sleep.
  • Casting Gag: Noel Fisher plays Megan Fox's character's fiance. He and Fox would reunite years later in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014).
  • Deadpan Snarker: Berta, though more irritated than usual because she has to care for her granddaughter that her daughter dropped off.
Berta: I can see the clothes hamper was a wise purchase.
    Charlie: Berta?
Berta: No, it's Liz Hurley but I'm holding water.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Jake gets so distracted by Prudence that he walks face first into the glass window doors by accident. As Alan notes, it's happened twice. Alan also crashed into the windows after talking to Prudence.
  • Does This Remind You of Anything?: Prudence covered in bubble suds and squeezing the soaked sponge in her hands, drenching her shirt.
  • Fille Fatale: Sixteen-year-old Prudence acts provocatively and tries to flirt with both Alan and Charlie. It doesn't work.
  • Generation Xerox: Prudence looks exactly like a younger version of her mother Cheryl Lynn, sex appeal, attitude and all.
  • Intimate Lotion Application: Bertha's 16-year-old granddaughter Prudence is staying at the house, which greatly upsets Charlie and Alan due to her being very flirty and attractive. One scene has her try to convince Alan to rub sunscreen on her back, which he's quick to refuse.
Prudence: [holding a sunscreen bottle] Can you put some of this on my back?
    Alan: No.
Prudence: If you don't, I'll burn.
    Alan:If I do, I will.
  • Jailbait Taboo: Berta's granddaughter Prudence is very gorgeous and sexy. She is also 16, which is why Charlie and Alan have to keep their hands off her as Berta warns them to.
  • Love Makes You Dumb: When Prudence shows up with her boyfriend Freddie, she announces she's run away and wants to get married. Alan and Charlie disagree with the teens plans to run away and elope.
  • Male Gaze: The Harper brothers get distracted watching Prudence wash the glass window doors with a sponge.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Prudence whose appearance consists of wearing makeup and an open sleeved top exposing her belly button, short shorts, flip flops and a swimsuit. Being played by Megan Fox doesn't hurt either.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Alan and Charlie, when they see how hot Berta's teenage granddaughter is.
    • Alan and Berta, when they hear Jake comment on a kiss and they think Charlie is kissing Prudence but luckily it's Rose kissing him.
    • Alan and Charlie again, when Judith arrives to drop off Jake's book and they have to hide Prudence from her.
  • Parental Marriage Veto: Prudence's grandmother Berta and mother Cheryl Lynn disagree with Prudence's decision to runaway with her fiancee Freddie and get married in Las Vegas.
  • Pop-Cultural Osmosis Failure: The song "Dear Prudence" that Prudence claims her then bass playing boyfriend allegedly composed for her is actually a song released by The Beatles in 1968 (on the "White Album") and co-written by The Beatles' bassist, Paul McCartney.
  • Precocious Crush: 10-year-old Jake openly crushes on the 16-year-old Prudence. She doesn't mind though.
  • Prison Rape: Charlie alludes to this happening to him if he does get together with Prudence intimately.
Charlie: Whoa, Prudence, this just can't happen. I mean, you're nice and pretty, but in prison, so am I.
  • Stacy's Mom: When Prudence's mother Cheryl Lynn shows up, she is also gorgeous like her daughter if not more and identical looking.
  • Title Drop:
    • From Berta, when she describes what Prudence smells like, which Jake compliments.
    • The title refers to the filtered tip brand of Camel cigarettes that was introduced by R.J. Reynolds Tobacco in 1913 and is famous for the package design that used a camel named 'Old Joe'.
