Recap / Total Drama: "Severe Eggs and Pains"

Go To

The teams merge, but then the contestants pair off to steal eggs from cassowary nests.

Tropes:

  • Always a Bigger Fish: A grizzly bear is defeated by a cassowary to show the campers what's in store for them if they mess around.
  • And That's Terrible: Ripper spikes an egg into the ground, eliciting disgust from anyone who witnessed or heard about it. It hatches into a cassowary chick and walks off unharmed, but still.
  • Animal Disguise: Ripper convinces Zee to dress up as a cassowary to distract a nesting mother while Ripper takes one of its eggs. The cassowary falls in love with Zee.
  • Artistic License – Ornithology: The campers refer to the nesting cassowaries as female. In actuality, the male cassowary is the one that builds the nest and takes care of the eggs and chicks. Somewhat justified, as it's unlikely that anyone but Damien, who's already eliminated, would know this.
  • Attractive Bent Species: Ripper has Zee dress up as a cassowary to distract one of the nesting ones. It works much better than Zee wanted it to.
  • Big "YES!": When she learns Bowie will tell her about what's going on with Raj, Emma exclaims "YES!" out of happiness.
  • Break-Up/Make-Up Scenario: Julia invokes this between Chase and Emma in order to piss Emma off so badly, that Chase will be guaranteed to be voted off. It backfires thanks to a misunderstanding on Emma's part, leading to the two of them getting back together.
  • Call-Back: The way Wayne and Raj fall off a cliff, continuously hitting some parts of it on the way, is similar to the way Owen fell off a cliff in "Hook, Line, and Screamer", although Owen's fall was actually Played for Laughs and didn't leave him with major injuries.
  • Cheaters Never Prosper: Ripper smugly leaves Zee behind with an oblivious, but soon to be angered cassowary. He almost gets immunity, but spikes his egg into the ground, costing him the challenge.
  • Coax Them Out of the Closet: Wayne has been trying to get Raj to tell him he's gay for a while now. He finally succeeds as they both get sent off a cliff by a cassowary.
  • Cranial Eruption: After getting beaten up by a cassowary, Raj gets a bump on his head.
  • Crush Blush:
    • When he starts a conversation with Bowie (who he's in love with), Raj blushes.
    • Emma blushes out of affection after she kisses Chase on his lips.
  • Exact Words: In order to win the challenge, you have to bring Chris a cassowary egg. Although Ripper makes it back to Chris first, his egg hatches when he spikes it to the ground, to which Chris says it doesn't count and Ripper doesn't win.
  • Half the Man He Used to Be: A bear gets cut in half by a cassowary. Being a cartoon, it just runs off on its front paws.
  • Moment Killer: Emma unintentionally does this as Bowie and Raj were in the middle of a kiss, running past and telling them to move as an angry cassowary chases her.
  • Non-Gameplay Elimination: Wayne and Raj are beaten up by cassowaries and knocked off a cliff, requiring them to be medically evacuated and removing them from the competition in the process.
  • Non Sequitur, *Thud*: Wayne and Raj spout these out after their injuries, ending with them singing the Canadian national anthem as they get flown off the island.
  • Pet the Dog: During the campfire ceremony, Chef looks concern for the injured Wayne and Raj and asked them if the two of them are okay. Then he insisted to get the boys to a hospital.
  • Repeat Cut: When Chris blows the horn for challenge time, it repeats three times to show what different competitors are doing at the time and how the noise startles them. Priya and Millie were training and Millie took a hit to the face, Julia was putting on lipstick which is now smeared on her cheek, and Zee was drinking soda which he spat all over Chase.
  • Shaking the Rump: When trying to get Zee to seduce a cassowary, Ripper tells him to shake his behind at the bird.
  • Shipper on Deck: Much like Wayne, Emma also is very supportive for Raj and Bowie's relationship.
  • Shout-Out: When Chris and Chef explain what a cassowary is, Ripper says it's like "that big bird from that TV show we all watched as kids", but has a hard time remembering Big Bird's name.
  • Smashed Eggs Hatching: Ripper spikes his egg into the ground after he makes it back to Chris before anyone else. The egg breaks and releases a cassowary chick, costing Ripper his victory. The chick is also immediately hostile to him for understandable reasons.
  • Sudden Anatomy: Julia sprouts a fifth finger when she counts the votes she's gathering in the confessional. She's surprised when she notices it.
