Recap / The Loud House S 2 E 10 Fed Up Shell Shocked

Go To

Fed Up: Bored with monotonous meals, the kids sabotage dinner to get pizza, but they are caught, and therefore, forced to prepare the food for the family.

Shell Shock: Lincoln and Ronnie Anne have to deal with an egg at school, but Lincoln does not trust the chaotic Ronnie Anne to take care of the fragile egg.

"Fed Up"

  • Added Alliterative Appeal: Lynn Sr.'s dinners are almost always alliterative to the days they're made (like Salsbury Steak Sundays, Meatball Mondays, etc.). The only exception is Goulash Thursdays, but apparently that's because there's not much foods that start with "Th", and his and Rita's stomachs can't handle some of the ones that do.
  • Belated Love Epiphany: Parodied: as the Loud kids try figuring out what to make for dinner, Leni suggest goulash, the very thing they were trying to avoid eating:
Leni: And now I miss it.
  • Both Sides Have a Point:
    • Lincoln and the girls realize that their parents were right about it being hard to cook for thirteen people seven nights a week.
    • The parents realize that their kids have a point in how it can get really boring to eat the same meals over and over again—while they don't make any drastic changes in the end, they make an agreement with their kids to start mixing it up once a while for dinner.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: The episode opens with Lynn Sr. announcing dinner is ready, and the Loud sisters all excitedly race down the stairs. Lincoln then pauses the scene with a remote to explain why this scene isn't real.
  • Brick Joke: Early on, it's revealed that Lana disconnected the steering wheel to Vanzilla to prevent Lynn Sr. to returning to the store to get replacement goulash ingredients. At the end of the episode, it turns out Lana also removed the brake pads.
  • Comedic Underwear Exposure: When Lisa uses a magnet to steal the cans of beans Lynn Sr. is using for dinner, she ends up also accidentally removing his belt, causing his pants to drop.
  • Continuity Nod: The Louds still have only one dinner table rather than the separate adult and kiddie tables from Season 1, just like in "Making the Grade."
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: When the Loud siblings try to cook something different, they start arguing among themselves as to what they want to serve up. As a result, their dish tastes so bad that even Lana can't eat it.
  • Determinator: The kids do everything in their power to sabotage the dinner so they can have pizza. In turn, Mr. Loud continues his attempt to make dinner despite the setbacks the kids throw at him.
  • Epic Fail: See Cordon Bleugh Chef above.
  • "Eureka!" Moment:
    • Lincoln has one when he accidentally knocks the wiener schnitzel off the table, and his dad's barely able to save it, stating that he would have had to order pizza instead.
    • The kids decide to make dinner themselves when their parents point out that it's not easy cooking for thirteen people.
  • Gone Horribly Wrong: The Loud kids' attempt at making dinner goes very badly at first and doesn't get much better.
  • Hypno Pendulum: Lincoln uses one to try and hypnotize himself into believing Lynn Sr.'s wiener schnitzel tastes like ice cream. Lola ruins it because she wants to try it too.
  • If My Calculations Are Correct: Said by Lincoln after the kids steal all the ingredients for the goulash.
  • Last Resort Takeout: Invoked when Lincoln and his sisters get tired of their dad making them the same seven meals every week, so they work together to sabotage his every attempt to make dinner so they can order pizza.
  • MacGyvering: How Lynn Sr. saves dinner at the end of the episode, by taking the leftover ingredients to make casserole. As an aside, part of this involves taping the baking pan back together.
  • Medium Blending: When Lincoln tells the viewers about his dad’s limited repertoire, the seven dishes are shown with photographs of actual food rather than being animated.
  • The Millstone: Leni, who put some of the food they're supposed to hide in her father's clothes. This caused him to figure out in no time.
  • One-Note Cook: Lynn Sr. really isn't a bad cook and has been shown to be very talented and creative when it comes to the dishes that he makes for his family—but the issue that Lincoln and his sisters have (at least in this episode) is that they're tired of having the same seven meals every single week.
  • Single Tear: Lucy sheds a single tear of happiness as the kids enjoy pizza.
  • Spit Take: Everybody spits out the mixed dish the kids prepared, since it tastes awful.
  • Stock Footage: The scene where the sisters dash out of their rooms are edited scenes from "The Sweet Spot."
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: After the parents discover their kids' antics and the kids explain why they did what they did, Rita comes to her husband's defense by explaining to Lincoln and the girls that the main reason that they have the seven meals every week is because it can be hard to cook seven different nutritious meals for thirteen people on a budget. The Loud kids also realize this when they try to cook dinner, but can’t decide on a dish they all like, and their own attempt to cook something fails miserably.
  • Tempting Fate: When Lori suggests they do a potluck (everyone makes something different to bring to dinner), Lincoln agrees because that way they have nothing to fight about. The next scene shows that the kitchen is a mess and the kids are all arguing.
  • Toilet Humor: Lana is seen snorkeling in the toilet’s water tank.
  • Vehicular Sabotage: Lana sabotages Vanzilla to prevent Lynn Sr. from going back to the store and get new goulash ingredients.

"Shell Shock"

  • Ascended Extra: This is Penelope's first major role after appearing as a background character in a couple of episodes.
  • Brick Joke: The last imagine spot Lincoln has of Ronnie Anne smashing the egg sees her cracking it open into a bowl of batter. The episode ends with her pretending to do this to get a rise out of Lincoln.
  • Bruiser with a Soft Center It is revealed that Ronnie Anne is a very different person when she is at home than she is when she is at school. She is seen treating Bobby when he has a splinter in his finger, doing the laundry, cooking dinner for her mom, and helping Bobby get ready for his latest job.
  • Comically Missing the Point: When Mrs. Johnson announces to her class that "this is the moment [they] have been waiting for", Rusty assumes she means it's lunchtime.
  • Continuity Nod: Lincoln and Clyde again refer to themselves as Clincoln McLoud.
  • Debating Names: Lincoln and Ronnie Anne are assigned to look after an egg to practice parenting. Lincoln wants to name the "egg baby" Ro-shell, but Ronnie Anne wants to name "him" Toby, thinking a joke name is too ridiculous.
  • Did Not Think This Through: Lincoln decides to hang out at Lisa's table, filled with rambunctious five-year-olds at lunch to protect the egg from Ronnie Anne. Lisa's only line in this scene is pointing out the fallacy.
  • Disappeared Dad: They don't outright say it, but it's blatantly obvious Ronnie Anne's dad, for one reason or another, isn't in the picture.note
  • Eats Babies: Parodied: Rusty asks Mrs. Johnson if they should hard or soft boil their egg babies.
  • Egg Sitting: The task for Lincoln's class.
  • Embarrassing Slide: When telling her class that those who succeed the egg sitting assignment will win a waffle breakfast, Mrs. Johnson accidentally shows them a picture of herself riding a mechanical bull.
  • Forgiven, but Not Forgotten: After hearing Lincoln's story, Mrs. Johnson gives him and Ronnie Anne a second chance at the egg assignment. But as punishment, Lincoln is barred from the waffle breakfast reward.
  • Given Name Reveal: It's revealed that Ronnie Anne's first name is Ronalda.
  • Hope Spot: After Lincoln's Jerkass Realization, he decides to take the rubber cement egg and leave. But then Ronnie Anne bumps into him, making him drop it.
  • Jerkass Realization: After seeing Ronnie Anne's home life, Lincoln realizes how paranoid he was being.
  • Lethal Lava Land: During Lola and Lana's brief appearance, they are seen playing "The Floor is Lava".
  • Never Say "Die": Parodied: when bumping into Clyde and Penelope after his egg smashes, he instead vocalizes the act.
  • Oh, Crap!: Lincoln when he realizes he gave Ronnie Anne the real egg instead of the fake one.
  • Rummage Fail: Mrs. Johnson tries to show the class a picture of the waffle breakfast they could win, but instead shows them a picture of her riding a mechanical bull.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: Lisa comments Lincoln would make a great dad in a sarcastic tone when he decides to keep the egg safe at her lunch table filled with rowdy younger kids. Once he gives Ronnie Anne (what he thinks is) the fake egg, he remarks that Lisa was right about him being a great dad.
  • Saying Sound Effects Out Loud: So, how does Lincoln describe the egg breaking?
    Lincoln: (falling whistle) (smash sound)
  • Scary Teeth: Ronnie Anne has these in Lincoln's imagine spots.
  • Self-Fulfilling Prophecy: Lincoln is so paranoid about Ronnie Anne breaking the egg that it ultimately happens... when he bumps into the table it's on as she chews him out for not trusting her.
  • Slow "NO!": Lincoln gives one when Lola and Lana’s antics cause him to drop the egg.
  • Suspicion Aesop: Lincoln fears that Ronnie Anne will break the egg on purpose because of her usual recklessness, but seeing her at home reveals she's not as rough as she seems. Realizing he shouldn't have judged her, Lincoln decides to let her look after the egg.
  • Unfortunate Item Swap: Lincoln accidentally gives Ronnie Anne the real egg after making the rubber cement egg.
  • Wingding Eyes: All kids in Mrs. Johnson's class get waffles for pupils when they see the photo of the promised waffle breakfast.
