Recap / The Loud House S 2 E 11 Pets Peeved Pulp Friction

Go To

Pulp Friction: Lincoln and Clyde submit an Ace Savvy comic to a meet-the-creator contest, but are foiled by a surprising nemesis.

Pets Peeved: Lana brings a new pet home, which the kids generously overload with attention. This causes the other pets to plan to get rid of it.

"Pulp Friction"

  • Banana Peel: Luan uses Lana's slingshot to fire a banana peel at Principal Huggins' golf cart, causing it to slip and the comic to fall out.
  • Bat Scare: Lucy deliberately unleashes her bats into the school gym to distract Principal Huggins.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Leni, of all people, comes up with an idea to get Vanzilla to the post office in time even after it breaks down by using a sash she bought to tie to a tow truck, earning her praise from her siblings, notably Lucy, for her good thinking.
  • Big "NO!": Lincoln and Clyde do this when Vanzilla breaks down, and they only have five minutes to get to the post office... until Leni's Big Damn Heroes moments happens, as stated above.
  • Cutting the Knot: As Lincoln and Clyde brainstorm how to break out of detention, Lola shows up, having picked the lock.
  • Detention Episode: Lincoln and Clyde's detention acts like the typical type of this trope and the Loud sisters attempt to help them escape.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Principal Huggins takes Lincoln and Clyde's comic away and puts them in detention until five just so that he can mail his own comic before the post office closes at four. He realizes just how petty he was once he's caught, especially with the possibility of being reported to the school board and later fired for this, and even chooses to give up his chance so they can submit theirs. Lincoln and Clyde decide there's a better way than that though.
  • Dramatic Irony: Lincoln states that out of all of his sisters, Lola is the one you should not trust. When he and Clyde are in detention, she's the one who helps them first by busting them out of the locked room.
  • Fed to the Beast: Lincoln and Clyde's comic features Ace Savvy and One Eyed Jack about to be lowered into a shark tank by Wild Card Willy.
  • Follow That Car: Lincoln tells Lori to follow Principal Huggins' golf cart when they are in Vanzilla.
  • Fusion Fic: Lincoln and Clyde's solution to help out Principal Huggins? Combining their comics together.
  • Hidden Depths: It turns out that Principal Huggins is a fan of Ace Savvy and has been since he was Lincoln and Clyde's age.
  • The Power of Rock: Luna’s comic counterpart uses music as a weapon.
  • Pungeon Master: A little more about the Ace Savvy series is revealed. It turns out that card puns are the name of the game.
  • Race Against the Clock: Lincoln and Clyde have to get their comic back and mail it to the post office before it closes at four.
  • The Reveal: As it happens, the real reason why Principal Huggins put Lincoln and Clyde in detention was to knock them out of the Ace Savvy contest.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: The sisters, concerning comics. Earlier in Season One, they had no interest in them, believing them a bore and even made fun of Lincoln for them more than once. As of this episode, they seem to have accepted becoming part of a comic and even happily help him win a contest concerning Ace Savvy. This implies they’ve since matured.
    • Principal Huggins as well after the boys learn his backstory.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Wilbur Huggins’ voice as a child is just a slightly higher pitched version of his modern voice.

"Pets Peeved"

  • Amplified Animal Aptitude: Charles can read a phone book and operate a slide projector, while Walt can dial a telephone.
  • Black Comedy: The pet sanctuary is called "The Green Mile". It's named for the final mile an inmate walks in prison before being executed. Charles and the other pets didn't know that.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Charles, Cliff, Geo, and Walt.
  • Diabolical Dogcatcher: Corrinne and Schmitty. Though of the two of them, Corrinne is the more diobolical one, while Schmitty seems more like a Punch-Clock Villain.
  • Embarrassing Slide: During the first meeting in Charles' doghouse, he accidentally shows a slide of a fire hydrant (which he certainly uses to pee). During the second meeting, he accidentally shows a slide of a female poodle dog (who he certainly has a crush on).
  • Everybody Cries: Lincoln and his sisters cry over their pets running away while making missing posters of them.
  • The Faceless: The faces of almost all the Loud kids aren't seen at the beginning of the episode until Lana shows up at the house. They become faceless again at the end of the episode.
  • Frameup: The pets try to discredit Watterson by framing him for breaking a vase, eating Mr. Loud’s freshly prepared dish, and tracking mud all over the house. All attempts backfire.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: The pets become envious of Watterson when the Louds shower him with love and affection, leaving them to be forgotten.
  • Human Ladder: The episode starts with the pets stacking themselves on top of each other to steal food from the pantry.
  • I Ate WHAT?!: The pets are disgusted when they realize they just ate Lynn Sr.'s liverwurst, shrimp, and hot mayo casserole (which even he admits is usually a one-way ticket to the sink or toilet, so bad is it).
  • Literal Ass-Kissing: Luna does this to Watterson near the end of the episode.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: After watching a commercial for the Green Mile Pet Sanctuary and discover that it's a Guantánamo for dogs, the pets immediately begin to regret getting rid of Watterson.
  • Oh, Crap!: Lisa asks out loud why her projector is in Charles's doghouse. Cue the looks from the pets.
  • Pounds Are Animal Prisons: Zig-zagged. On one hand, Green Mile Pet Sanctuary does make commercials encouraging adoption. On the other hand, it's still very much treated as an animal prison. The female dog catcher even lets out an Evil Laugh when reporting she caught the pets and Watterson.
  • Precious Puppy: Watterson.
  • Ridiculously Cute Critter: Watterson. He is just a tiny ball of fluff with bangs and his tongue constantly sticking out!
  • Roaring Rampage of Rescue: The pets decide to hold a meeting in Charles's doghouse to discuss how they are going to rescue Watterson from the Green Mile Pet Sanctuary.
  • Running Gag:
    • The Louds adoring Watterson.
    • Charles, Cliff, Geo, and Walt trying to get rid of Watterson by making him look bad.
    • A member of the Louds mistakes Watterson's butt for his face.
    • Charles hosting a meeting and accidentally finding a candid (for him) slide amidst his presentation.
  • Secretly Selfish: After getting rid of Watterson, the pets think that he will live happily in the kennel, as if everyone wins in the equation. But they don't think about how the kids will suffer.
  • Series Continuity Error: Subverted. In this episode, Lynn Sr. makes liverwurst, shrimp and hot mayo casserole and acknowledges that it's so bad it induces vomiting from anyone who eats it. In other episodes, he's an amazing chef, but it's just that his number of dishes is limited. So this particular dish is one of his cooking experiments, and it's definitely not a success.
  • Springtime for Hitler: The pets do everything they can to "incriminate" Watterson: they break a vase and eat all of Lynn Sr.'s liverwurst, making the dog take the blame. Then they manage to make him muddy the whole house. All of these incidents only make the family love Watterson even more: Rita can finally get rid of a tacky decor item, Lynn Sr. thinks someone finally likes his "culinary masterpiece," and the kids just decide to give Watterson a bath.
  • Sudden Anatomy: Charles has a thumb in order to hold a remote to a slide projector. Later, he and Cliff have hands to gesture silence towards Watterson.
  • Thought Bubble Speech: The Loud family pets share mental images.
    • "The new puppy will take all the attention leaving us forgotten" so they decide to get rid of him;
    • once they have tricked him into getting caught by the pound, "The puppy will be sent to a nice farm to live where he will be happy".
  • Tropey, Come Home: The Loud kids prepare to hang up posters of their missing pets when they discover they are gone. Fortunately, the pets return home on their own in time.
  • Unwanted Gift Plot: The vase that the pets frame Watterson for breaking was given to Mr. and Mrs. Loud as a wedding present by Rita's Aunt Ruth—however, Rita claims that she always hated the vase but couldn't bring herself to get rid of it, so she's glad that Watterson "broke it."
  • Waxing Lyrical: "Awww... Lay your weary head to rest, brah."
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Watterson and his owner isn’t mentioned again after this episode.
