Recap / The Looney Tunes Show S1 E6 "Reunion"

Go To

The sixth episode of the first season of The Looney Tunes Show.

Bugs and Daffy go to Daffy's high school reunion.

This episode features the "Cock of the Walk" Merrie Melodies music video and the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote short, "Fee Fi Fo Dumb".

This episode provides examples of:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Bugs joins in on everyone except Porky chanting "Daffy Dork" to Daffy when he humiliates himself, admitting it's got a ring to it.
  • Bait-and-Switch: The episode starts with Daffy reading a Love Letter. But then the mailman shows up and tells him off for reading someone else's mail.
  • Believing Their Own Lies: Daffy kept saying he was the most popular kid in high school. It isn't until Bugs talk with some other people and ask some questions to Daffy that he actually remembers he was actually a loser.
  • Big Jerk on Campus:
    • Porky was this in high school, a popular Jerk Jock and Chick Magnet who bullied “Daffy Dork”.
    • Daffy thinks he was this, having a flashback with him as the confident Big Man on Campus bragging about his basketball accomplishments, surrounded by pretty girls, and bullying Porky the Nerd. But when he hears his old nickname “Daffy Dork”, we see the same flashback, only now he and Porky have switched places, and Daffy realizes he made up the first flashback of him being popular to block out the trauma.
  • The Cameo: Pepe Le Pew and Penelope Pussycat appear in the "Cock of the Walk" Merrie Melodies music video when Foghorn mentions that he's been to Paris.
  • Cocky Rooster: The "Cock of the Walk" Merrie Melodies music video has Foghorn Leghorn boast about the various accomplishments he achieved in his life.
  • Company Cross References: One of Daffy's lies is that he's Batman. In the end it turns out Bugs was Batman!
  • Embarrassing Nickname / Malicious Misnaming: In high school, Daffy had the insulting nickname “Daffy Dork”.
  • Even Nerds Have Standards: Marvin the Martian and Pete Puma were nerds in high school, and even they didn't want to sit with "Daffy Dork".
  • "Fawlty Towers" Plot: Afraid of appearing as though he'd peaked in high school, Daffy lies profusely about his post-graduation accomplishments, which include things like being married to a model, winning a bronze medal at the Olympics, and being the President of Mexico.
  • Foreign Exchange Student: Marvin the Martian was a foreign exchange student from Mars during high school. This experience was a horrible time for him, and, as such, spends his days plotting to destroy the Earth thanks to it.
  • Freudian Excuse: Marvin plots to destroy the Earth because of his horrible times in high school.
  • Future Loser:
    • Subverted with Daffy. He remembers himself as being the most popular guy in high school, and gets upset at the thought of his class reunion because he feels like he’s fallen from Grace since then. But later, he realizes that his memories of his so-called “Glory Days” were fabricated by himself, and he was actually the least popular student. At first, he’s sad, until Bugs points out that it means he hasn’t reached his full potential yet.
    • Played straight with Porky. He said so himself that high school was the best years of his life, and the real flashback of his and Daffy’s high school days has him as the Big Jerk on Campus that Daffy thought he himself was. But from the other episodes, we can tell that his life isn’t as good now as it was back then.
  • I Was Quite the Looker: Downplayed. Some students used to be good looking in a flashback (and photos too). Because of it, Daffy roasted all of them for having peaked (except for one woman who’s still beautiful).
  • Jerk Jock: It's revealed that PORKY, of all characters, was this back in high school - and that Daffy was his primary target. Since then he's apologized to Daffy multiple times.
  • Lampshade Wearing: In the "Cock of the Walk" Merrie Melodies music video, one man appears wearing a lampshade at a party when Foghorn mentions that he won a Nobel Prize just for having too much fun.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • At one point, Bugs dances in the same manner during his performance of "Camptown Races" in "Mississippi Hare."
    • During the "Cock of the Walk" Merrie Melodies music video, Foghorn is dressed as Duck Dodgers when capturing a flock of UFOs.
  • Rejected Apology: Porky had apparently apologized to Daffy a thousand times for bullying him at high school. Of course, Daffy continues to treat him poorly.
  • Self-Serving Memory: Somehow, Daffy has been able to convince himself that he was the most popular kid in high school. Spoiler alert: he wasn't.
  • Stock Ness Monster: The Loch Ness Monster appears in the "Cock of the Walk" Merrie Melodies music video, having been caught by Foghorn with just simple fishing gear and rope.
  • Wham Line: Bugs comes across Porky at the reunion and learns that Daffy didn't exactly peak in high school as he claimed.
Bugs: From the story I heard, high school was pretty rough for you.
Porky: R-r-r-rough? (chuckles) High school was the g-g-g-greatest time in my life! I'm surprised D-D-D-Daffy came.
  • Wham Shot: In the ending, Bugs watches an old videotape which shows his many accomplishments he made during his youth at the cost of attending high school, such as a cattle rancher, a military officer, a football quarterback, a movie star, an astronaut and the President of Mexico. Daffy laughs at him for "peaking too soon" and leaves the room, but then the Bat-Signal appears in the distance from outside their home...
Bugs: Ehh, I don't think I've peaked quite yet.
