Recap / The Ghost And Molly Mc Gee S 2 E 33 FONAA

Go To

Scratch curses Molly to remove her sense of fear for 24 hours — and accidentally turns her into a reckless daredevil.

Tropes:

  • Afraid of Doctors: Subverted when Molly is scared of going to the dentist; it's not the actual dentist that frightens her, but Toothy, a mascot in the form of an anthropomorphic tooth that has a rather creepy smile. Molly especially doesn't like that he's a tooth with teeth.
  • An Aesop:
    • Being brave is not about being fearless, but about doing things you're afraid of despite the fear.
    • Don't go overboard while being fearless.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Scratch decides to make Molly not fear anything. It works during her dentist appointment, but she grows more reckless than she usually is, culminating in her launching herself from a makeshift contraption that could, at the very least, hurt her.
  • Berserk Button: Mr. Bates doesn't take it well when Molly tells him she won't attend wood shop classes again. Thankfully, he instead takes a deep breath and compliments Molly for being honest, though he still gives her a detention for mouthing off to him like that.
  • Call-Back: We get one all the way back to when Scratch first scared Pete by hiding in the kitchen cabinet in "The Curse". This time, Scratch is on the receiving end of such a scare, as Molly has somehow crammed herself in the exact same cabinet.
  • The Cameo: Pete makes a short appearance in a Cutaway Gag and Ollie only makes an appearance during the F.O.N.A.A music number.
  • Cutaway Gag: While bluntly telling Mr. Bates that she’s never attending woodworking class, she also mentions that she made numerous poorly made bird feeders. We then see Pete watching a bird perch itself on Molly’s feeder, which then collapses, resulting another bird ghost.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Scratch rescues Molly from falling from a great height when the curse wears off long after she has propelled herself to the sky.
  • Everyone Has Standards: For all the times he's put on a nonchalant, uncaring face in the face of many of the cast's problems, Scratch is actually more worried about Molly's reckless stunts after cursing the latter to not be scared of anything.
  • Fearless Fool: Without her fear, the list of insane things Molly does includes:
    • Refusing to attend Mr. Bates' wood shop classes ever again, resulting in detention.
    • Dodging wrecking balls and sharp knives.
    • Kiss Ollie in public!
    • Accepting a phone call from an unknown caller.
    • Launching herself over Brighton with a trebuchet.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Scratch's initial decision to remove Molly's sense of fear is simply to help her going to the dentist, unknowingly that he turning her into a borderline Fearless Fool afterward.
  • Here We Go Again!: After landing in a pile of leaves, Molly finds out she chipped her tooth, meaning she has to go to the dentist again. Fortunately, this time, she braves her own fears the right way.
  • Horrifying the Horror: As he witnesses Molly's fearless antics, Scratch gets increasingly concerned, to the point of pleading with her not to trebuchet herself over town.
  • Nobody Loves the Bassist: When Sharon asks Scratch to "curse" her into being a rich and famous rock star, she says she doesn't need to be lead singer and she'll settle for bass guitar.
  • Perfectly Cromulent Word: Lampshaded. When Molly catapults herself across Brighton with her trademark "Enhappify" emblazoned on a banner she's wearing as a cape, someone sees her banner and notes how it's not a real word.
  • Title Drop:
    • "F.O.N.A.A.", Molly's new motto after her fear is removed, stands for "Fear Of Nothing At All."
    • In a series title variant, Scratch drops a variant of the show's title when trying to dissuade Molly from catapulting herself across Brighton, stating that if she succeeds, they'll end up as "the Ghost and the Ghost of Molly McGee", which he finds "samey-samey" and ruins their dead ghost and live human dynamic.
  • We Are Not Going Through That Again: After all the trouble Scratch went through, Sharon asks him to make her a rock star to gain fame and money, but Scratch is having none of it and phases inside the car to avoid a re-do of the whole dilemma.
