Original air date: 4/1/2023 (produced in 2022)

Production code: 201

The McGees welcome some new neighbors, the Chens, but Molly becomes worried when she learns they're ghost hunters and tries to hide Scratch's presence from them. Meanwhile, Scratch discovers he has some new responsibilities and tries his best to wiggle out of them.

Tropes:

  • Backhanded Compliment: The Ghost Council says they went to Scratch for advice on how to unwind because he's an expert at being "lazy and good-for-nothing". Scratch is clearly unamused.
  • Bittersweet Ending: The McGees succeed in ending their barbecue and sending the Chens home, and they promise to maintain their friendship while hiding Scratch's presence. But Molly is worried how her friendship with Ollie will carry out, while at the same time, the Chens know about ghosts existing in Brighton.
  • Birds of a Feather: Ollie and Molly quickly hit it off when they learn they both share a love for helping the community.
  • Bishie Sparkles: And Love Bubbles whenever Ollie flips his hair.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: While The Ghost Council pointed out that Scratch should do some work since he's the new Chairman, Scratch was also right when he told them to enjoy their afterlife and have fun.
  • Bottle Episode: Most of the episode takes place at and around the McGee house, with brief scenes in the ghost world and a short scene in the Chen's house in The Stinger.
  • Crush Blush: Ollie and Molly exchange awkward blushes in several scenes.
  • Dreadful Musician: The theme song for the episode flows into Scratch and Molly playing a jam session, and let's just say that it's not up to the standards of the show's usual songs.
    • Sir Alistair ends up falling into this category as well when he plays the lute rather poorly.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep": The Ghost Council are displeased to learn that Scratch never bothered to learn their names and only ever called them the Ghost Council.
  • Fantasy-Forbidding Father: When he was alive, Sir Alister's father never let him play the lute. Scratch encourages him to learn it to "stick it to the old man".
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: During "Enjoy Your Afterlife", you can see a glimpse of Scratch's profile on Ghostagram. The picture he takes with Bartholomew is liked by Abraham Lincoln, Geoff, Jeff, and 10 others.
  • Funny Background Event: During Scratch’s first meeting with the Ghost Council, he mentions ordering a truckload of ice cream. In the scene where Sharon and Esther bond over their love of spicy food, you can see it being delivered in the background.
  • Hakuna Matata: Scratch's song, "Enjoy Your Afterlife", is about no longer having to put up with the Chairman's rules now that he's gone and it's time into do whatever you want and have fun.
  • Hidden Depths: In the "Enjoy Your Afterlife" scene, Sir Alister reveals that back when he was alive, he had a passion for music and wanted to learn to play the lute, but his father forbade it. And while Scratch initially dismisses it as dumb, he still encourages him to pursue his dream anyway.
  • Hypocrite: According to Molly, who told several Blatant Lies during Season 1...
  • Jaw Drop: Scratch's jaw literally hits the floor when the Council informs him he's in charge after technically being responsible for the death of the Chairman.
  • Klingon Promotion: Because Scratch technically killed the Chairman the Ghost Council makes him the new Chairman.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: It turns out the Flow of Failed Phantoms was also being used as a prison for "Frightmares", aggressive and dangerous ghosts who were a threat to mortals and other ghosts alike, and a bunch of them show up in Molly's house during the barbecue with the Chens. To be fair, Molly and Scratch weren't aware of this until now.
  • Promoted to Opening Credits: Libby and Geoff are now in the group hug when Scratch sings "Is there a way to hit restart?"
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The Flow of Failed Phantoms, in addition to holding ghosts who failed to meet the Council's standards, was the prison of dangerous spirits called "Frightmares", who are now free to unleash chaos on the living once more.
  • Shout-Out: Ollie mentions his family visiting a haunted mansion in New Orleans. Disneyland's version of The Haunted Mansion is located in New Orleans Square.
  • The Stinger: The usual Every Episode Ending jingle is interrupted by a klaxon going off, and the Chens suiting up for action when their ghost-detecting equipment picks up a spike of supernatural activity.
  • Tastes Like Purple: Scratch complains that the Chairman's robe "reeks of responsibility."
  • Torment by Annoyance: It's implied the Ghost Council are deliberately being annoying house-guests to force Scratch to accept his role as the new Chairman.
  • Wham Line: "Of course I believe in ghosts. My whole family does. We’re ghost hunters."
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Molly learns that Ollie is also afraid of spiders when Darryl's pet tarantula drops in front of them.
  • You Kill It, You Bought It: According to the Ghost Council, if a ghost manages to defeat the current Chairman, they become the new Chairman, which means Scratch is now in charge of the Ghost World.
