Tropes:

  • Abstract Eater: The story sprite literally eats the words out of books. It can also take on the aspects of the words it eats.
  • All for Nothing: Molly hopes to convince Ollie that ghosts aren't a threat, but he refuses to change his mind. At the end of the episode, Molly has to accept that future attempts may prove just as hopeless.
  • Call-Back: Molly tells Ollie that if she was a ghost, which she became in "Molly vs. the Ghost World," she'd be "the friendliest ghost ever, enhappifying wherever [she] went." Which she was.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Libby is seen writing in her diary early in the episode, and ends up using it to deal with the story sprite.
  • Freudian Excuse: According to Ollie, his dad Reuben was badly scared by a ghost when he was a boy, inspiring his devotion to finding and capturing ghosts.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Libby takes advantage of the story sprite's shapeshifting powers by feeding it her diary, causing the story sprite to turn into a clone of Libby with all her thoughts and feelings, allowing her to convince the story sprite to put back the words it ate and clean up the mess it made.
  • Know-Nothing Know-It-All: Scratch puts on airs of knowing everything about the Ghost World now that he's the new chairman, but he mostly makes things worse dealing with the story sprite.
  • Library Episode: Or close to one; The main plot of the episode takes place in Ms. Stein-Torres' bookstore.
  • Once Done, Never Forgotten: While bring a clone of Libby, the story sprite starts recalling an incident that took place at Andrea's sleepover during third grade before being interrupted by the real Libby.
