Recap / The Casagrandes S 1 E 8 Flee Market Copy Cant

Go To

Flee Market: Bobby struggles to give up control of the mercado during his pizza-versary date with Lori.

Copy Can't: When Ronnie Anne notices that she's the only person Carlitos won't copy, she becomes determined to change it.

"Flee Market" contains examples of:

  • An Aesop: Sometimes you should trust people with things and let them run it their way.
  • A Day in the Limelight: For Bobby.
  • Mustache Vandalism: Carl, naturally, does this to a picture of Bobby and Lori, drawing a mustache, a tooth gap, and an "I eat boogers" caption on Bobby.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: When Bobby tells Lori that Ronnie Anne, CJ, and Carl were playing their own music and placing the fruit next to the fish, Lori reminds him that they weren't trying to tear the place down and that they simply have their own way of running the mercado. This makes Bobby feel sorry for being too strict with his sister and cousins, so he relinquishes control of the mercado to them for his pizza-versary with Lori.
  • Not What It Looks Like: When Lori follows Bobby to the mercado, she cries out, "You were with your other love, on our anniversary?!" Bobby immediately assumes she was referring to Maybelle, so he clarifies that she, Maybelle, is just a friend. Thankfully, Lori means the mercado.
  • Spaghetti Kiss: Bobby and Lori attempt this with a slice of pizza. It fails when Bobby gets a phone call from the mercado.
  • Spy Cam: After leaving Ronnie Anne, CJ, and Carl in charge of the mercado, Bobby hides a camera in a piƱata. The kids quickly catch on and call him out for not trusting them with the mercado.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: At the end of the episode, Bobby reacts this way when some pigeons arrive to eat the pepperoni cufflinks off his pizza tuxedo.
  • Two-Timer Date: Poor Bobby has to rush back and forth between a pizza date with Lori and running the mercado by himself. This quickly stresses him out when he keeps thinking about Lori.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • When she, CJ, and Carl figure out that Bobby is spying on them, Ronnie Anne calls him out on being too strict with the way the Mercado is run (the mangoes should not touch the fish, the milks should have the "sell-by date" facing the customers, etc.).
    • He gets another earful from Lori when he explains to her about how the Mercado was run by his younger sister and cousins.
Lori: That's it? So they didn't upset any customers? Burn the place down?
  • Woman Scorned: Parodied. Lori's reaction to learning that Bobby is trying to work at the Mercado on their anniversary is treated as such.

"Copy Can't" contains examples of:

  • Baby See, Baby Do: Surprisingly, Carlitos' signature trait does not extend to Ronnie Anne. See Series Continuity Error below.
  • Bound and Gagged: Carlitos covers Bobby in duct tape when he figures out that Bobby has disguised himself as Ronnie Anne.
  • Disabled Snarker: CJ when Carl spends a lot of time building up his tortilla-chip football throw.
    "Any day now, Carl."
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: The episode ends with Ronnie Anne, Carlos, and Carlitos laughing upon seeing Frida dressed as Ronnie Anne.
  • Fire-Breathing Diner: Maria when Bobby spills hot sauce on her huevos rancheros, even causing her to burn off Frida's hair!
  • Food as Bribe: Carl bribes Sergio with a box of crackers to get him to call Carl the best Casagrande. Then, Ronnie Anne attempts this with a bag of chicharrones, only for Carlitos to slap the bag from her hand.
  • Gone Horribly Right: Ronnie Anne's attempts to get Carlitos' attention works too well. Now, Carlitos favors Ronnie Anne over anyone else in his family, keeps her awake for a few days, and keeps calling her "Ow".
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: To get Carlitos out of Ronnie Anne's hair, Ronnie Anne and Sid dress Bobby as Ronnie Anne, using her hood to cover his facial hair and duct tape to remove his belly hair. Since Carlitos is only a year old, it works... until he sees the real Ronnie Anne on TV.
  • Series Continuity Error: Ronnie Anne says that Carlitos has copied everyone in his family except her. However, he has copied Ronnie Anne before: in "The Loudest Mission: Relative Chaos", he mimicked Ronnie Anne's pain after Carlota waxed her legs; and in "The Loudest Thanksgiving", he mimicked Ronnie Anne's annoyance when the Louds used Bobby's love of the theater in an attempt to persuade him to spend Thanksgiving at the Louds instead of his family.
