"This stupid hat is driving you crazy!"

Gumball, Nicole and Richard argue over a supposedly lucky helmet and Gumball definitely isn't going to give it up without a fight.

Tropes:

  • Baguette Beatdown: Darwin gets the hat off Gumball by using a stale baguette to deflect back one of the tennis balls Gumball was firing.
  • Brick Joke: Nicole tells Richard that if he won the speedboat on the game show he's going on, he'll never use it and he disagrees. The episode ends with the whole family destroying the street by driving the boat over it.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Darwin doesn't let Anais carry the hat because he think it's too big a burden for a little girl. So he carries the hat, and has Anais carry him.
  • Disney Death: For a few seconds it appears Gumball jumped into an incinerator after the hat, but he actually got caught on something a few feet below the ledge.
  • For Doom the Bell Tolls: After Nicole, Richard, and Gumball first start arguing over the hat, Anais smells trouble brewing and bangs a pot like a gong, saying it was "the sound of doom for the Wattersons".
  • Hat of Power: The titular tinfoil helmet gives people impossibly good luck.
  • Heel–Face Turn: When Gumball, Richard, and Nicole fight over the helmet for themselves, Anais and Darwin chew them out for their behavior and tells them that they have to get rid of the hat. Richard and Nicole realize how immature they acted and feel remorseful. They agree that it's best that the hat is destroyed. Gumball, on the other hand, goes insane when he hears this.
  • Homage: The last part of the episode homages The Lord of the Rings, with Gumball playing the part of Gollum.
  • Insistent Terminology: Gumball insists that the tinfoil piece of headgear is a helmet, not a hat.
  • It's All About Me: As Nicole argues to Richard, her getting a promotion would benefit the whole family and they'd probably even be able to save enough to buy a speedboat on their own. Richard insists that he take the helmet to win a game show anyway, going so far as to trick Nicole to use it, even though they're miles from any body of water to get a speedboat to.
  • Magic Feather: Nicole was able to impress her bosses during an interview even though the helmet she was wearing was fake. She probably would have gotten her promotion if she hadn't thrown a fit when she found out Richard tricked her.
  • No Challenge Equals No Satisfaction: Why Gumball gives up the helmet at the start of the episode, having grown bored of his supernatural luck.
  • Out-of-Character Moment: Anais can't carry Granny Jojo's bag up the stairs bur she can and will carry Darwin on her back uphill, with jewelry so heavy Darwin himself couldn't walk with it on.
  • Plague of Good Fortune: Gumball gives up the extreme luck the hat granted because it made success so easy it felt meaningless. When he goes back to losing, he claims it's more satisfying this way, but quickly admits his regret and become more obsessed with the hat than anyone else.
  • Say My Name: Anais pulls one at the top of her lungs when Gumball jumps over the edge after the helmet.
  • Sssssnake Talk: Gumball briefly slurs his sounds ("It sounds like a cat trying to say 'snake'.") before switching to a Gollum impression and then his regular voice.
  • Skepticism Failure: Anais finally admits the helmet might have real power when Gumball puts it on and immediately manages to find a tennis ball machine and a working generator to power it.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Darwin questions why they need to dispose of the Helmet in a trash compactor instead of ripping it up, since it's just tinfoil. Anais says that ripping up tinfoil sounds horrible.
  • Take My Hand!: Anais grabs Gumball up from the cliff edge, and he has to be talked into letting go of the hat so he can pull himself up with his other hand.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Anais calls Gumball, Richard and Nicole "Animals" Bonus points for The Wattersons being actual animals.
  • What the Hell, Hero?: First: Anais Scolds Gumball, Richard and Nicole, Second: Anais asks Gumball what is wrong with him, And Third: Darwin tells that the helmet is just a piece of tinfoil.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: The hat's power leads to Gumball acting flat-out crazy once Anais and Darwin tell him that they plan to destroy it for the family's own good. He suddenly becomes insanely enraged, screaming uncontrollably, having to be restrained by a terrified Richard and Nicole.
Gumball: GIVE ME IT BACK! IT'S MY HELMET!!! (Screaming with rage) AAAAGGGHHH!!!!!
