Recap / Teen Titans Go S 4 E 8 And 9 The Streak

Go To

Robin competes with other superhero teams to stop fifty-two crimes at the peak of crime season. He's won every previous year, but his streak is jeopardized by Kid Flash convincing Cyborg, Starfire, and Raven to work with him instead.

  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Some of the crimes that the Teen Titans are able to stop include bank robbery, artifact theft, making a little boy cry, and littering.
  • Call-Back: When Robin crosses paths with Kid Flash, they mention how they haven't seen each other since the events of "Multiple Trick Pony". Becomes a Chekhov's Gun at the end of the second part, when Robin decides to cheat by wounding Kid Flash's other knee.
  • Deadly Euphemism: Santa Claus, while trying to teach Robin the importance of leadership and delegation, mentions that he used to have more than his nine famous reindeer but had to send the stragglers to a dog food factory. He then clarifies that the reindeer just work there, and weren't turned into dog food.
  • Hypocritical Humor: When the team is reduced to just Beast Boy and Robin when they're one crime left from winning, Beast Boy tries to be encouraging and says they can still pull it off. Robin completely dismisses him, saying that there's no way "a duo, couplet, odd couple, master and student" could ever be successful, all of which could refer to his famous partnership with Batman. Additionally, Beast Boy and Robin are depicted as other famous duos during Robin's dismissal of duos, such as Mulder and Scully from The X-Files and Mr. Miyagi and Daniel from The Karate Kid.
  • Loophole Abuse: Kid Flash is fast enough to stop 52 crimes in a matter of seconds by himself, but Robin has kept his streak going because the annual competition requires fighting as a team. Kid Flash turns this around to his advantage later, convincing members of the Titans to split from Robin and form a team with him by saying he can do all the work while they just relax in close enough proximity to count.
  • Multi-Part Episode: Part 1 has Robin commencing his annual streak, and Part 2 is him trying to finish it after Kid Flash's sabotage.
  • Spoof Aesop: Rather than teaching Robin about Team Spirit, Santa Claus (hired alongside Sticky Joe and the Tooth Fairy to replace the missing Titans) encourages an It's All About Me mentality, with an entire musical number about how a team is garbage without a good leader knowing how to organize it properly.
