Shell Games

Original air date: 3/7/2020 (produced in 2018)

Patrick's rock turns out to be the shell of a sea turtle named Tony. Neither of them are willing to budge, and Patrick ends up being unexpectedly popular with Tony's friends.

"Shell Games" contains examples of:

  • A Day in the Limelight: One of few episodes to focus only on Patrick. SpongeBob only makes a brief cameo.
  • Bigger on the Inside: Tony's shell.
  • Cartoon Bomb: Patrick uses this in an attempt to crack open a nut. Tony throws it into Squidward's house.
  • Determinator: Patrick refuses to give up his rock after finding out that it's a shell that belongs to a sea turtle.
  • Fully-Clothed Nudity: When Tony hops out of his shell in front of the lady turtles, he embarrassingly covers his groin as though he were naked, even though he's wearing a t-shirt and boxers.
  • Informed Species: Tony and his lady friends are sea turtles, but their appendages make them resemble box turtles or tortoises.
  • Literal-Minded: When Tony tells Patrick to "vamoose", Patrick imagines a van looking like a moose.
    • Becomes a Brick Joke later on when the same van picks up the two female turtles.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Rivals!: Tony and Patrick's fight over the shell/rock ends with it smashed to pieces.
  • Out of Focus: SpongeBob only appears in one scene and has one line. Patrick subtly lampshades this by referring to him as "that little yellow guy".
  • Rambunctious Italian: Tony, Mel and the lady turtles talk and act like stereotypical Italian-Americans.
  • Removable Shell: Contrary to real life turtles, Tony's shell is separate from his body. It even breaks by the end, rendering him naked and homeless until he uses Squidward's house as a substitute.
  • Rip Van Winkle: Tony had been sleeping for 30 years.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Special Guest: Bobby Cannavale as Tony.
  • Your Size May Vary: Tony can go from being much larger than Patrick to being about the same size.

Senior Discount

Original air date: 7/6/2019 (produced in 2018)

Old Man Jenkins's annoying habits and entitlement are making Mr. Krabs furious... and worse than that, nothing will get Jenkins out of the restaurant.

"Senior Discount" contains examples of:

  • Big "NO!": Mr. Krabs does this when he sees Old Man Jenkins approaching the Krusty Krab.
  • Burning with Anger: Mr. Krabs when Old Man Jenkins disrupts his business. At one point, SpongeBob boils some soup on Mr. Krabs's body.
  • The Bus Came Back: Grandpa Redbeard from "Grandpappy the Pirate" returns in this episode to be used as an elder that can tell Old Man Jenkins what to do. He's voiced by Clancy Brown instead of Dennis Quaid, however, likely due to budgetary reasons. Also, for some other reason, he's pink.
  • Here We Go Again!: Mr. Krabs and Old Man Jenkins decide to stay at the Chum Bucket, and when Plankton tries to kick them out, they just tell Plankton to respect his elders.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Mr. Krabs and Old Man Jenkins bring in the ghosts of their deceased ancestors to kick the other out. But both ancestors decide to party together and kick Mr. Krabs and Old Man Jenkins for "not respecting their elders".
  • I'm Melting!: One customer melts into a puddle when Mr. Krabs turns the heat all the way up.
  • Iris Out: How the episode ends.
  • Screw Politeness, I'm a Senior!: Old Man Jenkins takes it to absolute extremes when he starts being blatantly disrespectful at the Krusty Krab just for the sake of being rude. Whenever Mr. Krabs tries to do anything about it, Old Man Jenkins would just remind him to "respect your elders".
  • Shout-Out: Old Man Jenkins summons the last of his ancestors with the "Book Of The Filleted", which resembles the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis from Evil Dead.
  • Tempting Fate: At the beginning, Mr. Krabs is happily counting the day's profits and says nothing can ruin the day, only to see Old Man Jenkins approaching.
  • Title Drop: The title is stated by Old Man Jenkins when he uses his senior discount at the Krusty Krab and again at the Chum Bucket.
  • Wingding Eyes: SpongeBob gets hearts in his eyes when he talks about why he loves Old Man Jenkins.
