Run Senn! Now!

Release Date: February 29th, 2020

Synopsis: Jalkar and Grim begin to close the deal on the Dragon Egg, but negotiations are tense. Lucan has gone undercover in the mines to find the Necrobase. At Sendaria, Thalleous and Senn return to discover the cause of the destruction.

In Tabora Crags, Jalkar and Grim meet up with a group of Voltaris to negotiate with the dragon egg. The leader, Zinaida, is curt with Jalkar, demanding to know why he took so much time and asking about Grim, who was not part of their arrangement. They agree to accept Grim and provide compensation, but Grim will not get a share of the reward. Zinaida tells them to hand over the egg, but Jalkar refuses, saying that he'll collect his reward first. As the two mercenaries take out their weapons, Zinaida's second Lucidius tells him that this would be an unwise decision, knowing how dangerous Grim is. Zinaida ignores Lucidius and orders the Voltaris to kill Jalkar and Grim.

A fight breaks out between the two groups. Jalkar and Grim are able to take out most of the Voltaris with relative ease, but a problem arises when Zinaida uses his Aggressium Song to create a vortex. Jalkar is able to use the vortex to his advantage, and spins his knife towards it, stabbing Zinaida and killing him. As Jalkar approaches Zinaida's body, he picks up the Song, noting that it'll sell for a hefty price.

As Jalkar and Grim leave to find a new buyer for the egg, Abbigail approaches Lucidius, who is still alive but heavily wounded. Lucidius tells Abbigail to kill him, but Abbigail refuses and asks where Jalkar and Grim are heading. Lucidius tells her that they are heading northeast, and with that Abbigail leaves.

Deep beneath Mount Tempus, Lucan is spotted by some undead. He attempts to control them with his Wither Skeleton Skull, but he fails to do so. Another Necromancer, Xaria, arrives and is able to get the undead under his control and lure them away. Xaria assumes that Lucan is the new rookie sent to kill Niika, and tells Lucan not to worry, though he says that Niika is more dangerous than they expected. Lucan nervously follows Xaria to the Necromancer base, where he sees the Necrolord for the first time. As ominous music plays, the Necrolord holds up a Wither Boss with one head, and everyone, undead and Necromancer alike, turns to face him. As Lucan nervously backs away, he is told by Xaria that he is needed for another mission.

In Sendaria, the fires continue to rage as Senn and Thalleous try to find out what's going on. Senn sees an Ardoni corpse in his room, but before he can investigate, Thalleous tells him that they have to leave to Ataraxia, where Senn will be safe. Just as they are about to leave, Timber and Thalleous notice something, and moments later, several Voltaris turn up to face Thalleous. Thalleous orders Senn to run, and he complies, leaving Thalleous to face off against these Voltaris by himself.

Senn runs into some trouble with another, lone Voltaris, but Timber comes in to kick the Voltaris away, killing him and saving Senn. Thalleous is able to kill the Voltaris attacking him, but he soon surrounded by several more, and Tygren Voltaris makes his reappearance.

Tygren: Thalleous Sendaris! We meet again! (Thalleous and Senn glare at him) I noticed you moved the Prime Songs. I need them. Can you not see? Look... look what you made me do.
Thalleous: I have fought against your kind for over two hundred years Tygren. Whatever the Voltaris are planning... I will stop it.

Tygren vows that Thalleous won't escape this time, and gestures the Voltaris near him to attack Thalleous. Thalleous isn't going without a fight however, and utilises his Songs (including a new Aggressium one) with great effect to kill and stun most of the present Voltaris, before engaging in another duel with Tygren. They fight ferociously, but Thalleous is able to knock Tygren back a great distance, and makes a run towards Senn, trying to escape. But just as he's about to reach Senn, Tygren grabs a nearby spear from a fallen Voltaris, and throws it straight through Thalleous, impaling and killing him. A horrified Senn flees with Timber as some of the remaining Voltaris fire arrows at him, a victorious Tygren walks towards Thalleous' body, and takes his enchanted Diamond Greatsword, fulfilling his promise to Thalleous back in the first episode.

To Be Continued

Tropes:

  • Almost Dead Guy: Lucidius is this after being thoroughly beaten by Jalkar in the first part of the episode, and gives vital information to Abbigail on where Jalkar and Grim may be heading. This is later subverted as Episode 10 shows that he survived and made his way back to Mount Velgrin.
  • Attack Backfire: Zinaida Voltaris is killed when Jalkar uses the former's Aggro-storm ability to throw his knife into the side of Zinaida's head, killing him.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Timber comes in to save Senn from a lone Voltaris when Senn was prepared to fight him. The Voltaris in question is instantly killed by Timber.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The diamond spear that was wielded by a Voltaris on Thalleous, which Thalleous then used to kill said Voltaris, is later used by Tygren to impale Thalleous when he attempts to run away.
  • Continuity Nod: The Wither Skeleton Skulls, wielded by the Necromancers, are in fact used to indoctrinate the undead to control them, as shown with the first Necromancer in Episode 3.
  • Curb Stomp Cushion: While Jalkar and Grim do come out victorious in their fight against some Voltaris in this episode, these Voltaris certainly didn't go down without a good fight.
  • Downer Ending: At the end of this episode, Thalleous has been killed, Tygren takes his sword and Songs, and Senn is forced to flee to get away from the dangers now present in Sendaria, and by proxy, the Ardoni Territories.
  • The Dreaded: Grim is referred by Lucidius as "The Reaper", which makes him want to have a non-violent deal with Jalkar and Grim. Zinaida however, is undeterred by this and as a result, he and many others are killed in the ensuing fight.
  • Dressing as the Enemy: Lucan has entered the Necrobase beneath Mount Tempus dressed in the robes of the Necromancer he and Niika incapacitated in the previous episode. The disguise works, but Lucan very nearly blows his cover on a few occasions.
  • Dynamic Entry: Xaria (who's only named in the credits) makes an entrance by doing some acrobatics near Lucan, and lures the nearby undead away from the area.
  • Evil vs. Evil: This episode features a fight between a group of Voltaris against Jalkar and Grim over the Dragon Egg. Jalkar and Grim win.
  • Eye Lights Out: This episode is the first to show what happens when an Ardoni is killed. The colour of their markings and eyes fade to black, while any Songs that they were wielding returns to their solid forms right beside them.
  • Foreshadowing: The Unyielding Legion is mentioned for the first time by Jalkar, who needs to find a new buyer for the Dragon Egg after he and Grim kill the original buyers (the Voltaris lead by Zinaida).
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: Senn shows these when a lone Voltaris confronts him. Luckily, he doesn't need them thanks to Timber's Big Damn Heroes moment (see above).
  • Hero of Another Story: Thalleous is revealed to have hidden the Prime Songs away from the Ardoni Territories during the Time Skip between Episode 1 and 2, correctly believeing that the Voltaris clan would come for them, and stalling their plans.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: The Voltaris that attacks Thalleous with a diamond spear is later killed with said spear.
  • Hope Spot: It seemed very briefly that Thalleous has incapacitated Tygren and is about to escape, though it only lasts until what happens below.
  • Impaled with Extreme Prejudice: Thalleous is killed when Tygren throws a spear straight through his torso, killing him.
  • Killed Off for Real: Thalleous Is killed by Tygren just before the end of the episode, getting rid of one of the few Ardoni who stood in the way of the Voltaris until the season finale.
  • Last Stand: Thalleous is able to pull off an impressive one after he and Senn are ambushed by the Voltaris in Sendaria, killing several well-trained Voltaris without the use of any Songs and costing them dearly before he's outnumbered. After his venomous talk with Tygren, and when he's surrounded by the Voltaris, he punches the ground with his Aggro-quake ability, stunning several Voltaris, before killing one with his sword and using his Mobili-flash ability to kill another, before engaging with Tygren, which ends with his death.
  • Match Cut: The flames of the Necrobase at Mount Tempus are used as we cut to the flaming inferno in Sendaria.
  • Mercy Kill: Averted, Lucidius tells Abbigail to kill him after he's seriously injured during his fight with Jalkar, though Abbigail calmly refuses to do so, only wanting to know where Jalkar and Grim were headed off to. Lucidius provides her with the information.
  • Never My Fault: Tygren denies being responsible for the burning of Sendaria, stating that Thalleous hiding the Prime Songs lead to him burning large parts of the Ardoni Territories.
Tygren: Can you not see? Look... look what you made me do.
  • One-Man Army: Thalleous proves himself to be this, killing several well-trained Voltaris and stunning several others during his Last Stand.
  • Only Sane Man: Lucidius is only Voltaris who wants to a peaceful resolution to the deal between Jalkar and the Voltaris, knowing how dangerous that Grim is (as proven moments later). Zinaida however, ignores him, and only Lucidius survives the ensuing fight.
  • Pyrrhic Victory: The Voltaris have killed Thalleous, the only one who was aware of the threat that they were. However, they lost most of their good fighters, and failed to get the Dragon Egg and Prime Songs that they desired. This reflects the Villainous Vow that Tygren made to Thalleous in this episode, who clearly wanted some sort of victory from their campaign:
Tygren: You won't escape this time old man.
  • Quality vs. Quantity: The Voltaris, fall victim to this trope both times they are seen in the episode:
    • While against Jalkar and Grim, Zinaida brushes off Jalkar's threat that they are outmatched, since he has the numbers. Jalkar and Grim however, are trained mercenaries, and they kill most of the Voltaris present (Lucidius lives, but is severely injured).
    • Tens of Voltaris ambush Thalleous in Sendaria, and most of them are killed or stunned by Thalleous, most of whom were their very best fighters, leaving them vulnerable to future attacks.
  • The Pawns Go First: Tygren seems to have little concern for his fellow Voltaris as he orders them to attack Thalleous while he simply stands back. Indeed, it's only after most of the Voltaris present are killed that he bothers to fight Thalleous, and even then he only wins by chance.
  • Throwing Your Sword Always Works: On two occasions, Thalleous throws swords at the Voltaris attacking him, killing them instantly. Unlike most examples of this trope however, the swords do spin while traveling in the air (though they do land in their victims point first).
  • Volcano Lair: The Necromancers have made their base of operations in the caverns directly beneath Mount Tempus.
  • Wham Episode: The first in the entire series. The clients who hired Jalkar to take the Dragon Egg are revealed to be the Voltaris (though we don't know why they want the egg until later), Lucan has discovered where the Necromancers are hiding, and the forces at their disposal, and Thalleous is killed by the Voltaris, who were originally after the Prime Songs, leaving Senn to fend for himself in the wilderness of Ardonia.
