The devil doesn't come dressed in a red cape and pointy ears. He comes as everything you ever wished for.

“Chibi-usa where are you?! Why did you leave the Crystal Palace? Running away from your problems won't solve anything! Come back here immediately! If Wiseman ever finds out about your secret he'll-No. I won't let that happen. I am Sailor Moon! In the Name of the Moon, I'll find you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(DIC Episode: "Jealousy's Just Reward")

Wiseman locates Chibi-usa and brings up her darkest shame to manipulate and capture her. Once he finishes, he exploits Esmeraude's greatest wish in order to launch a surprise attack on the Crystal Palace to keep the heroes busy.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • All for Nothing: Sailor Moon and the Silver Crystal are unable to free Neo Queen Serenity from her crystal slumber.
  • Amplifier Artifact: Wiseman creates a crown from the energy of the Malefic Black Crystal for Esmeraude to gain her power boost. While it does give her great strength, it also turns her into a rampaging monster with no control over herself.
  • Anger Born of Worry: Mars' first reaction to seeing Moon again is to tell her to stop crying. She justifies her anger saying that it's her way of cheering her up.
  • Be Careful What You Wish For: Esmeraude goes to the hooded boogeyman demanding a significant power boost so she can take down the Crystal Palace. Wiseman grants her wish but does so by turning her into a mindless Kaiju to make it happen.
  • The Chessmaster: Wiseman shows this quality by manipulating Chibi-usa and Esmeraude to do his bidding under the pretense of "helping them" achieve their goals.
  • Deal with the Devil: The Lady in Green agrees to Wiseman's dubious offer of power so long as she can destroy the palace and claim Demande's heart. She even namedrops the trope before accepting the crown.
  • Did You Actually Believe...?: Wiseman asks Esmeraude if a woman of her caliber could ever hope to control the true power of the Malefic Black Crystal.
  • Downer Ending: Despite defeating Esmeraude, the Guardians are shocked to learn that Chibi-usa has disappeared.
  • Dragon with an Agenda: While alone with his thoughts, Wiseman reveals that he has no intention of helping the Black Moon Clan obtain their revenge and that he'll be getting rid of the prince brothers so he can achieve his true goal.
  • Everybody Already Knew: Esmeraude comments to Saphir on how no one in the Black Moon Clan actually trusted Wiseman for his sketchy mannerisms.
  • Forced Transformation: Esmeraude is transformed into a giant green dragon.
  • Foreshadowing: When Artemis openly asks what happened to the Silver Crystal of the Future, Chibi-usa drops Luna-P out of shock. The others pay no mind as they assume she's reacting to the ghostly state of the palace.
  • Instantly Proven Wrong: Tuxedo Mask allows Chibi-usa to run off to cry knowing that she'll be safe as long as she stays in the palace. Cue his daughter casually walking past the palace's barrier.
  • Mind Rape: The hooded boogeyman begins his twisted therapy session by digging through Chibi-usa's mind to discover the truth about the Silver Crystal. Then he bombards her with illusions of the Sailor Guardians yelling at her for her mistake.
  • Never My Fault: Being a small child who can't come to terms with being instrumental in her mother's state and her home's demise, Small Lady desperately pleads that she isn't at fault for the Silver Crystal disappearing.
  • No Body Left Behind: Esmeraude meets her demise after being purified by Moon Princess Halation. But she soon ends up falling into a dark void for taking too much Dark Energy.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Saphir is extremely concerned about using the full power of the Malefic Black Crystal as doing so can be too dangerous for anyone to handle, especially his older brother.
  • Rage Breaking Point: Esmeraude reaches hers when Prince Demande becomes excessively focused on wanting to capture Neo Queen Serenity for himself.
  • The Reveal: The reason why the Black Moon Clan was able to make an effective strike against Crystal Tokyo was because Chibi-usa unintentionally made the Silver Crystal, the source of the palace's defenses, disappear without warning.
  • Running Away to Cry: Chibi-usa does this after Sailor Moon fails to save her mother.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Sailor Moon isn't too happy about having to take on a giant dragon to keep the palace safe.
  • Too Dumb to Live: After the dragon is struck by Sparkling Wide Pressure, Sailor Moon throws caution to the wind by running up to the monster to laugh at it.
  • Trauma Swing: The lost child goes on a swing in a ruined playground after her efforts to bring Sailor Moon to the future were in vain.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: The pink-haired child broke into the room guarding the Silver Crystal and unintentionally made it disappear by touching it. This would allow the Black Moon Clan to attack as the palace wasn't protected by the crystal's power.
  • Villain Opening Scene: The story starts with the two princely brothers arguing over what they should focus their attention towards: capturing the queen or changing the past for the sake of revenge.
  • We ARE Struggling Together: Saphir openly chastises his brother for being fruitlessly obsessive over Neo Queen Serenity and tells him to get over it. Demande responds by attacking him.
