Wounded children become wounded adults. And wounded adults can destroy themselves and possibly others.

“Oh no. This just can't be... Chibi-usa, is that really you? What are you doing? Don't you recognize us? Please stop it! We're not your enemy! We love you Chibi-usa! In the Name of the Moon, I don't wanna punish you!”
Usagi Tsukino

(DIC Episode: "Birth Of Wicked Lady")

By convincing Chibi-usa that no one in her life ever loved her and how she was born to be alone, Wiseman successfully transforms the little girl into an agent of darkness known as Black Lady. With her new power, she and Prince Demande are able to open a portal that can transfer their Malefic Black Crystal to Tokyo's past. And soon enough, Sailor Pluto has the Sailor Team return to the past and rescue their lost Small Lady.

Tropes in this episode include:

  • Break Them by Talking: Wiseman does this to push Chibi-usa to the dark side by making her believe that no one ever loved her.
  • Chewing the Scenery: Wiseman hams it up during Chibiusa's transformation to Black Lady in the DiC episode:
Wiseman: "Its energy coursing through your veins! YOU can do anything! YOU can destroy your enemies! YOU can destroy this miserable and ungrateful planet! WELCOME TO YOUR DESTINY! WELCOME TO THE REALM OF THE DARK CRYSTAL! WICKED LADY!"
  • Downer Ending: Sailor Moon was unsuccessful in turning Black Lady back to the good side. And before leaving, Black Lady gloats that she and Prince Demande have begun to make a new Dark Gate that will receive the full power of the Malefic Black Crystal that will obliterate their world when it's completed.
  • Dub Name Change: "Black Lady" becomes "Wicked Lady" in the DiC dub.

  • Fighting Your Friend: The Guardians hold back from having to fight Black Lady because of who she truly is.
  • Flashback: Wiseman has Chibi-usa recall different memories of her parents and the future Inner Guardians so he can twist them in his favor.
  • Hope Spot: It looks like Sailor Moon is successful in convincing Black Lady that she was loved which almost undoes her wicked transformation. But then Wiseman interferes by twisting the happy memories into cruel ones that result in Black Lady rejecting the purification process.
Wiseman: Remember how you were forgotten by your vacuous airhead mom, and your shallow pretty-boy dad.
  • Let's Split Up, Gang!: The Guardians try this method while looking for Chibiusa in the palace.
  • More than Mind Control: Wiseman is able to break through Chibi-usa by convincing her to use her insecurities and hatred against those she believed mistreated her all her life.
  • My Master, Right or Wrong: Luna-P joins Black Lady after confirming that she's still Small Lady. The toy even gains the Black Moon sigil and a wicked expression to fit it's new allegiance.
  • Parasol of Pain: Black Lady turns Luna-P into an umbrella so she can attack the Sailor Team.
  • Plot-Relevant Age-Up: Fitting her wish to be a true lady, Chibi-usa's evil alter ego resembles a young adult.
  • The Power of Hate: Wiseman strengthens his mental grip on Black Lady by encouraging her to embrace the hatred within her.
  • Riddle for the Ages: Sailor Pluto is unable to answer Tuxedo Mask's question about the great catastrophe that befell the Earth before the rise of Crystal Tokyo.
  • Something Only They Would Say: Sailor Moon realizes that Black Lady is Chibi-usa after she hugs Luna-P while calling the toy her only friend.
  • Superpowered Evil Side: Black Lady proves to be more powerful then her child counterpart given that she's powered by the Malefic Black Crystal.
  • Surprise Party: In the past, Chibi-usa was delighted to find that her parents and the future Inner Guardians prepared a surprise party to make up for missing her actual birthday.
  • That Girl is Dead: In the end, Black Lady asserts that she isn't Chibi-usa anymore and that she's embraced the new identity Wiseman bestowed upon her.
