Recap / Rick And The Loud House Chapter 53 This Bird Has Flown Into Space

Go To

Rick and Ronnie Anne have to battle a planet full of parasites to save the Casagrandes' pet bird, Sergio.

Rick and Morty episode: "Promortyus"

Casagrandes episode: "This Bird Has Flown"

  • Adapted Out: Rick and Ronnie Anne stop their rampage on the Glorzos' asteroid when they come up to the two towers and Rick opts to pull out immediately. As a result, the recreation of the Pear Harbor attacks from the original Rick and Morty episode does not happen.
  • Adaptational Jerkass: Sergio is even worse in this chapter than in the Casagrandes episode it was based on. In addition to all the things he does to Bobby, he apparently has no qualms about the Glorzos trying to blow up the Earth just to spite Bobby and he even threatens both Rick and Ronnie Anne (one of his OWNERS) with execution if Rick didn't apologize for not taking his side.
  • Adaptational Karma: Sergio doesn't get off scott-free for tormenting Bobby (or imprisoning Ronnie Anne and Rick) like he did in his home series. Rosa bans him from having crackers for a month and Rick blows up the Glorzos' asteroid to show him what will happen if he ever acts like a JerkAss again.
  • A Day in the Limelight: This chapter has Rick interacting with Ronnie Anne and the rest of the Casagrande family instead of the Loud family.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Sergio tells Ronnie Anne and Rick that he has a plan to get them out of prison. Said "plan" is... forcing Rick to apologize to him or risk the both of them being executed.
  • Can't Get Away with Nuthin': Sergio does not get off easy messing with Bobby, Ronnie Anne and especially Rick because of the dangerous adventure Rick gets him involved. Unlike the Casagrandes, Rick is not so forgiving when dealing with jerks like Sergio.
  • Can't Take Criticism: Sergio, a feathered rat as Rick calls him, demands that Rick take back what he said. Rick, not wanting anyone lording over him, simply slams him down some more.
  • Civilized Animal: Discussed in regards to Sergio in this chapter. Ronnie Anne tries to excuse Sergio's behavior on account that he's a parrot, but Rick fires back that since Sergio is capable of human speech and can be offended like a human, that argument holds little water.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Sergio has the alien Glorzos invade the Earth simply to spite Bobby, because he yelled at Sergio to go away. Rick, for all his character, chews him out for it.
  • Forgot About His Powers: When Ronnie Anne states that Rick usually has his portal gun to get out of tight spots, Rick realizes he forgot it at the Loud House when he left with her and Sergio in the cruiser.
  • Gilligan Cut: Right after Sergio claims he has a plan to bust Rick, Ronnie Anne and himself out, it cuts to him immediately sets them up in a kangaroo court demanding an apology from Rick. Rick just can't handle him at all.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Rick points out that Bobby had every right to be mad at Sergio for constantly tormenting him and winning an award he didn't work to earn. He also states that since Sergio is capable of acting like a human, so he should take responsibility like one rather than excuse his actions on account of being the Casagrandes' "quirky" family pet.
  • Jerkass Realization: Rick has this when he calls out Sergio for being ok with the Glorzos invading Earth just to show off Bobby.
Rick: Oh God. Is that how I come across when I get like this?
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: When Sergio demands that Rick apologize for calling him the "asshole" in his argument with Bobby lest he and Ronnie Anne risk death, Rick snaps and lets the bird know what he REALLY thinks of him
Rick: You know what? I am sorry. Sorry I bothered coming out here to help a fucking rat with wings. You know what you are, Sergio? You're a fucking parasite who's used his status as a family pet so you can get away with being the biggest asshole alive! It's no wonder you eventually became king of a bunch of other parasites!
Sergio: (Gasps) You take that back!
Rick: Make me, rat! Do you really think that being "funny" or "quirky" will let you get away with this forever? Because I guarantee people will eventually look past it and see you for the piece of shit you really are!
