Tour of the Solar System

Where it all began. Our hero, a human-like alien named Jet, is playing a solar system game with his human friends Sydney and Sean, but they're not sure which planets go where. Jet's mother, Celery, flies them out to the real solar system.
  • Ate It All: At the end of the episode, Carrot makes 'solar system nachos,' with the guacamole representing the sun. Sunspot proceeds to eat all the guacamole.
  • Call a Rabbit a "Smeerp": Earth's sun is called "Ignatz 118" on Bortron 7.
  • Casual Interstellar Travel: Celery tells Sean that the saucer has interstellar overdrive, which will allow the gang to visit the solar system in 30 minutes.
  • The Drag-Along: Sean is very hesitant about going to space, but is pushed into the wagon anyways.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: This episode's title was displayed at the bottom of the screen rather than in the middle like all subsequent episodes.
  • Establishing Character Moment: This episode establishes the core cast perfectly.
    • Jet is shown leading the gang in a solar system game, showing him as a confident leader despite him being new to Earth.
    • Sydney is sweet and supportive when picked to be Venus.
    • Sean cheers when he gets Earth, showing that he really loves Planet Earth.
    • Mindy tags along on the game and asks what a solar system is.
    • Sunspot makes weird sound effects and demonstrates his loyalty to Jet by saluting him. He seems to behave like a normal pet at first, but then starts dancing around.
    • Carrot does a live transmission to Bortron 7 where he attempts to open a cantaloupe. In doing so, he puts on his trademark colander hat (despite the audio description channel saying it's a strainer, it looks more like a colander). Then Sunspot easily opens it by knifehand striking it, showing that Carrot is sorta dumb.
    • Celery offers to take the kids to space, showing that she's the dominant driver and the one who teaches the kids. She clearly wants the kids to have fun learning, but she also says that there will be no stops or bathroom breaks.
    • Face 9000 is summoned when Jet has a question, and states that the sun is roughly 109 times bigger in diameter than the Earth.
  • "Everybody Laughs" Ending: At the end of the episode, everyone laughs after Sunspot eats all the guacamole.
  • Food End: The episode ends with Carrot presenting solar system nachos he made for dinner, and Sunspot eating all of the guacamole.
  • Good with Numbers: Jet quickly calculated that 1.3 million earths could fit inside the sun.
  • Growling Gut: When the kids get home, Sydney compliments Sean for not getting sick. Then Sean's stomach rumbles, showing that he did get a little sick.
  • Iris Out: The episode ends with an iris out on Sunspot.
  • List Song: Jet sings a song listing the eight planets of the solar system.
  • Ship Tease: During the solar system game, Jet picks Sydney to be Venus, since it's the "brightest planet in the sky." Sydney even mentions later on that Venus is the goddess of love in Roman mythology.
  • Shout-Out: Sydney tells about how Mercury was a Roman god with wings on his feet.
  • That Reminds Me of a Song: Celery states that she's gonna have to floor it so they can make it back in time for dinner. Jet realizes that this leaves enough time for a song.
  • The Unpronounceable: Sean asks what Celery and Carrot's names on Bortron 7 are. They turn out to be face-contorting strings of sound effects, which is why they picked the practical earth names of Carrot and Celery.

Jet Cooks Dinner

Jet and his family start to get homesick for Bortron 7, so Jet and the others decide to make the classic three-part Bortronian meal for his parents.
  • Art Shift: The cooking sequences are shown in a comic-book art style.
  • Beyond the Impossible: Sean, Sydney, and Mindy somehow taste the three-part Bortronian meal by touching Face's screen.
  • Exactly What It Says on the Tin: What is this episode about? Jet cooking dinner.
  • Face Palm: Sean facepalms when Jet thinks that Thomas Edison is a chef.
  • Food End: The episode ends with the characters enjoying the three-part Bortronian meal.
  • Hyperventilation Bag: The kids are running out of time to cook a meal for Jet's parents before they return home. This causes Sean to have a panic attack, and he briefly breathes into a brown paper bag.
  • Inherently Funny Words: Jet thinks that 'surprise,' 'ingredients,' and 'recipe,' are hilarious Earth words.
  • Insert Song: This episode has the first instance of the Scientific Method song.
  • Nervous Wreck: Sean devolves into a nervous breakdown when he finds out that Jet's parents are coming home in four minutes.
  • No Biological Sex: This episode has the only indication in the series that this is the case for Bortronians. Jet calls Carrot and Celery 'Parent 1 and Parent 2' before correcting himself with 'Earth mom and dad,' showing that he's trying to adapt to Earth's gendered terms.
  • Palette-Swapped Alien Food: The classic three-part Bortronian meal is first shown in this episode. It includes a hoagie, which basically resembles a submarine sandwich except the bread is red.
  • The Pollyanna: Jet actually likes trying and failing a bunch of times, and never stops being cheerful no matter how many times the gang fails. He even says, excitedly, that they hardly have any time to cook.
  • Steamrolled Smart Guy: Sean keeps on telling the gang to use the Scientific Method, but keeps on getting ignored until the end of the episode.
  • Tearful Smile: The Propulsions begin to miss Bortron 7 and the Classic 3-part Bortronian Meal. After they sing the commercial tune, Jet gets nostalgic about Bortron 7 and starts to cry a little bit while smiling.
  • Two of Your Earth Minutes: Celery states that she and Carrot will be back in six Bortronian months, which is one Earth hour.
