The N-Zed Boys, a boy band based in New Zealand wish to host auditions for a new band member, with Chase requesting that they hold the auditions in Amber Beach. Rada, one of Chase's friends from Auckland obliges, and the Cafe is a buzz with excitement. Shelby wants to audition because she has a crush on Rada, whom she unknowingly covers in chocolate by accident. Tyler meanwhile doesn't understand what the big fuss is about.
Kendall is quick to interrupt however with breaking news, Silver has been spotted in McCadden Forest, and the rangers race to aid him. However, the new ranger's story doesn't seem to add up, on top of the fact that he appeared to give the technology to Arcanon far too easily. Riley realizes that he is lying to them, after remembering they discovered a Titano Charger where Arcanon was standing, and the true identity of Silver is revealed - the ruthless alien warrior Doomwing!
Doomwing easily blasts through the rangers, and Tyler engages one on one, but is brutally beaten back. Just as Doomwing tries to attack further, something stops him; a second personality residing in his body. The other persona takes control and identifies himself as an ally - Zenowing. Zenowing is the one who bonded to the Silver Energem eons ago, and was captured by Arcanon and forced to do his evil work. His control is limited, and he shortly reverts back to Doomwing, who attacks Tyler again, slipping a bug onto his communicator. The alien flees, leaving the rangers in shock at the turn of events.
As they head back to base, Tyler is quick to place his communicator into the fish tank, to Kendall's horror. He explains that Doomwing has bugged his communicator, and as such, only wants him hearing something they want him to hear. In the meantime, they start working on an actual plan, that being to try to defuse Doomwing and Zenowing. It turns out that Zenowing is a fellow Gem Guardian, like Keeper, and must have bonded with the Energem out of necessity.
While Kendall works on the soul splitters, the N-Zed Auditions are going on; Shelby turning out to be a rather talented singer. Tyler, wanting to impress her signs up to audition as well, but suffers from major stage fright, and his singing suffers. While practicing, Chase confronts him on his reasons for auditioning, and it dawns on Tyler that he has feelings for Shelby. Chase advises him to tell her about these feelings. At the audition, he starts performing badly, before Shelby joins him and opts to sing as a duet. She is able to get him to move past his fear, and their voices harmonize brilliantly, the pair giving a rousing performance. Tyler tells Shelby how he feels, with her sharing the sentiment, in particular of how brave and impressive he is, even before auditioning. Sadly, Koda ruins the moment, but at least they are now on the same page.
Back in the lab, Kendall has perfected the Split Emitters, which work in unison to separate two entangled bodies. With it, they are able to formulate an ambush on Doomwing in order to free Zenowing. The group heads back to the forest, and purposely lures Doomwing there for a one-on-one bout with Tyler. The pair fight, with Tyler desperately trying to wear the Silver Ranger down, but he is beaten back. However, as Doomwing prepares a final strike, Zenowing interferes, incapacitating him enough to split him from Doomwing. As the rangers prepare to fight Doomwing, Arcanon enlarges him with a Magnabeam. In response, the rangers summon all ten zords, and form the Ultrazord, going toe to toe with Doomwing. They end the bout with their newest weapon - the Titano Cannon, using the Ultrazord and the remaining four zords to unleash a five beam blast to defeat Doomwing. Sadly, Doomwing lives on, Energem in hand.
Arcanon dismisses Doomwing, saying he had value while he could morph, but now that the bonded warrior is no longer inside of him, he has lost the Energem's power. He tries in vain to morph, but is unable. At the Dino Byte, the N-Zed Boys introduce the newest member of the band, to Tyler and Shelby's dissappointment, but they realize they have an even better prize, as they walk back into the lab holding hands. Zenowing meanwhile is being debriefed in the lab by a relieved Keeper, until Zenowing reveals exactly what Doomwing is:
Doomwing is the dark part of Zenowing created from the Dark Energem in an attempt to control the Silver Energem. Worse, Arcanon has possessed the Dark Energem for eons, making his defeat of the utmost importance.
