Original air date: July 24th, 1992

On PTV, Dazzle spins a ball containing slips with names written on them. The pony chosen will win two tickets to see the Cleveland Bays. She picks out a name, but before she can announce the lucky winner, it turns out to have all been a dream being had by Clover, whose mother wakes her up ready for school.

After school, when the girls watch the drawing, the winner is none other than Clover herself! Although she's happy, the jealousy the others feel of having a friend of theirs win is enough to suck the life out of the gathering, and they all begin to leave. Sweetheart is immune to such feelings, and explains to Clover that the others are simply disappointed they lost.

The mailman arrives the next day and gives Clover her tickets. She realizes she doesn't know which of her friends to give the extra ticket to. At Starlight's ice cream shop, Starlight apologizes to Clover for leaving her house so abruptly before. Clover accepts her apology and invites her to the concert, much to Starlight's delight.

Clover later encounters Melody at the library, where despite having already invited Starlight, Clover invites her too. Clover later gives up her own ticket to Sweetheart. Eventually, Clover has invited all six of her friends, who have gathered to get to the bottom of this. They confront Clover, who explains that she invited them all since she couldn't pick just one. But of course, this doesn't mean they can all go when there are only two tickets.

Clover's father hosts a new drawing for both tickets, and picks out Clover and Melody. While waiting in line for the concert, Melody is excited, but Clover misses her friends, which Melody can't help but agree with.

The remaining five are watching the show at home, and the doorbell rings. Bright Eyes answers it to find Melody and Clover have returned. As it turns out, they sold their tickets and bought pizza to bring back to their friends so they can all watch the show together on television. They all happily sit down together.

"And the Winner Is..." provides examples of:

  • An Aesop: It's more fun to hang out with your friends for something than go it alone.
  • Apple of Discord: Clover's extra ticket causes her friends to argue with one another over who's getting it, then chase Clover down to find out what's going on.
  • Bittersweet Ending: None of the girls go to the concert in the end, but they can at least watch it together from home while enjoying pizza.
  • Blatant Lies: Clover's excuse when Starlight tells her to come out from under a picnic bench.
Can we do it later? I'm looking for something.
  • Characterization Marches On: Clover's father doesn't seem very bright in this episode considering he exclaims he can't see anything while blindfolded even though that's kind of the whole point, but he's sensible and competent in his later appearances.
  • Circling Birdies: Rabbits and turtles spin around Clover's head briefly during her song.
  • Conforming OOC Moment: The usually meek and kind Sweetheart joins the others in chasing down Clover, then yelling, "NOW!" when Clover won't come out from under the picnic table she's under.
  • Conscience Makes You Go Back: Clover and Melody realize they would rather join their friends to watch the Cleveland Bays, so they sell their tickets and buy pizza to bring back to their friends, and the seven of them all watch the show together.
  • Cuckoo Clock Gag: When the school’s cuckoo clock goes off at the end of the day, Patch fires through her pea shooter at the bird, which retreats back into the clock before it can be hit.
  • Deadpan Snarker:
    • After Clover's friends chase her down to get to the bottom of the situation regarding the tickets:
    Clover: I can explain everything...
    Melody: We're waiting...
    Clover: I... I guess I wasn't thinking very... clearly.
Bon Bon: You can say that again!
    • Shortly after that, Clover's mother leads her blindfolded husband into the living room.
    Clover's father: I can't see a thing!
Clover's mother: You're not supposed to, dear...
  • Delayed Reaction: Clover's father enters the living room blindfolded, escorted by her mother, but he suddenly cries out that he can't see anything.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Clover's "solution" to not knowing which of her friends to give the extra ticket to is to invite them all. Bright Eyes lampshades this:
That's commendable thought, Clover, but unfortunately, there are only two tickets. We can't all go.
  • Disney Acid Sequence: Amongst other oddities, Clover's song "The Choice" features ice creams and milkshakes far too big, a massive television with all sorts of bizarre things to watch, and her friends appearing from behind giant playing cards and dancing in unison while wearing and waving feathers.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: When Clover's friends are gathered arguing over who's going to the concert with Clover (who invited all of them), they see Clover, at which point Bon Bon yells, "GET HER!" and they all chase her down.
  • The Ditherer: Clover's song "The Choice" is all about how she has trouble making choices.
  • Dream Intro: The opening is a dream where Dazzle is announcing the winner of the contest for two tickets to the Cleveland Bays concert. The dream ends with, "And the winner is..." before Clover's mother says Clover's name, waking her up.
  • Drum Roll, Please: There's one just before Dazzle announces the ticket winner, and Patch taps her hooves on the floor along with it.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Teddy and Ace are seen briefly in the classroom before the former's introduction in the following episode and the latter's four episodes after that.
  • Episode Finishes the Title: The episode reveals that the winner is... Clover.
  • Everyone Chasing You: When Clover's friends find out she invited them all to the concert, and demand answers.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Melody is a huge music fanatic, but still can't help but miss her other friends when she and Clover are about to go to the concert without them.
  • Food End: The episode ends with the girls eating pizza together while watching the concert on TV.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: During the Fantasy Sequence, we see Clover switching channels on a big TV. Among the many briefly visible pictures, some of them just small miniatures on 4x4 or 8x8 grids, are the Santa Maria ship, Muppet Babies, a dog carrying a mallet, a duck, a rocker pony, a highway junction, a Shinkansen train, a jet fighter, a helicopter, a desktop computer, a guitar, a seaport, and even a pair of human laced boots.
  • Friend-or-Idol Decision: Clover and Melody are faced with the choice of watching the Cleveland Bays in person, or going back to watch with their friends. They choose the latter.
  • Giant Food: Enormous ice creams and milkshakes appear briefly during Clover's song.
  • Going to the Store: Visibly disappointed at not having won the tickets, and jealous of Clover, her friends immediately make excuses to leave.
Melody: Yeah, later, Clover, gotta make band practice.
Starlight: Me too, I have to go to work.
Clover: Bye, Melody! So long, Starlight! Thanks for coming!
Bright Eyes: I have to run, Clover, I have to get to the library before it closes. Enjoy the concert.
    Clover: Bye, Bright Eyes...
Patch: To the winner go the spoils. See ya, Clove.
  • Green-Eyed Monster: Clover's friends except Sweetheart immediately turn sour and leave when Clover wins the tickets.
  • Innocently Insensitive: Clover dances in celebration when she wins the drawing for the ticket both times, which has the unintended effect of rubbing it in her other friends' faces.
  • I Was Having Such a Nice Dream: Clover isn't happy about being awoken from her dream of Dazzle announcing the contest winner.
  • Just One Extra Ticket: The whole plot of the episode. Clover must choose not from two, but six friends.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: Starlight leans in close to Clover when the latter offers her the extra ticket.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Clover walks by her friends discussing who's accompanying her to the concert and they notice her, her response is to say, "Oh no," and run away.
  • Post-Stress Overeating: Bon Bon is stuffing her face with dessert out of excitement from the upcoming contest results.
  • Take a Third Option: Instead of picking one of her friends to go with her, Clover decides to hold her own lotto with both tickets up for grabs. Melody and Clover win, but wind up pawning them off for pizza money and watching the concert on TV with the rest of the girls.
  • Verbal Backspace:
Sweetheart: See you lucky! I mean, see you later.
  • What Were You Thinking?: The girls want to know just why Clover invited all of them to the show when there are only two tickets to be had.
