The school war ends with a serious battle to the finish, truths revealed between friends and Luz must come to terms with Maya.

Tropes that appear in this Chapter:

  • Actually Pretty Funny: Both Calypso and Belos are amused by Luz calling the latter an idiot on a live news broadcast, Calypso saying there's no doubt that Luz is Eda's daughter.
  • Adaptation Species Change: The Collector is revealed to be a powerful Fae in the Luz Clawthorne continuity.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Since Brucy calls Luz "Boss", he calls Amity "Boss' girlfriend".
  • Agonizing Stomach Wound: Because of Emily stabbing her, Nina slowly starts bleeding out. When Donna finds the werecat, she does everything she can to keep Nina alive.
  • Ambiguous Situation:
    • It isn't confirmed, but Luz suspects that Emily had an illusion of herself solidified with Stella's magic fight her and that the Everlasting Oath she made was just an illusion as well. Emily, however, insists that they were real.
    • The Boss is implied to have a connection to Tibbles, though what that connection is isn't clarified. Word of God confirms that it's his father, Tibbly Grimhammer II.
    • While the Collector is a powerful Fae, whether he's stronger or weaker than he was in canon is up for debate.
  • Ambiguously Related: Beocrow claims that he's Luz's cousin, but she isn't sure if he's telling the truth and neither is Eda since she hasn't been in contact with her extended family for years. Nevertheless, Eda believes it's possible and promises to look into it.
  • Battle Trophy: As proof that Emily was defeated and because it called to her, Amity claims the Sword of Adam as her own.
  • BFS: When Amity gains her "Abomi-Knight" armor, the Sword of Adam grows larger than it was before.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • Gus dupes Miss Heinous with an illusion of a giraffe and bees to save Skara from her clutches.
    • Nina believes she's about to die from bleeding out as Glandus comes crashing down, only for Donna to carry her out on her staff.
    • Right as Meteora (after transforming into a dragon) is about to burn Luz and Amity alive, Sly the Pied Piper shows up and uses Rocky to deflect the flames.
  • Bittersweet Ending:
    • On the "Sweet" side; The school war ends in Hexside's victory, the Glandus Top Students are taken into custody, Luz and Maya find a compromise for their current situation, Belos ends the tradition of the school wars, Oberon is punished for trying to assassinate Luz and Amity, Athena stands up to Nicole and lets Tom stay with her and Boscha, Ms. Traveler begins showing Meteora the truth about her past, and Eda lifts Luz's grounding so she and Amity can bunk together again.
    • On the "Bitter" side; Principal Bump is seriously injured and must stay in the Healing Coven to recover, Asi, Horace, Kadabe, and Dolly are still at large, Belos knows Luz has undergone some kind of power-up, Nicole vows revenge against her own family, Grimhilde seems to be making an alliance with Hook, Camila is starting to waver in accepting anything about the Demon Realm, Amity is now at risk of being killed by Belos or kidnapped by Oberon now that she's part Fae, and Luz is showing signs of PTSD from the war.
  • Bookends:
    • Emperor Belos and the Coven Heads were seen watching the beginning of the war three chapters ago, and are seen observing the end of it.
    • Also at the beginning of the war, Darius and William have continued to avoid the mysterious entity chasing them. Now the chase ends with Darius escaping it while it consumes William.
    • Played for Laughs, the chapter begins with Meteora teaching a class before Oberon sent her to the Boiling Isles. The chapter ends with her students still there, not bothering to leave despite her not coming back.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Regarding Maya being stuck in Luz's body, Luz admits Maya has every right to be furious with her for causing her current situation. However, Luz points out that Maya keeping Luz trapped in her mind will be intentional compared to accidentally destroying her body, as it would mean none of Luz's loved ones would ever see her again. Seeing how unfair that would be, Maya agrees to Luz's proposal in sharing her body for the time being.
  • Break Them by Talking: Luz actually uses this on Emily, berating her for everything she's done to reach this point and using the war to make her dreams come true. It throws Emily off enough to leave her vulnerable, and Luz & Maya finish her off.
  • Brick Joke:
    • Vitimir reminds Terra that he won their bet, as Hexside won the war.
    • The classroom scene regarding the Fae, which doubles as Bookends.
  • Broken Win/Loss Streak: Luz finally pulls out a win against Emily and mops the floor with her after two straight losses, Amity and Gus taking out Stella to give her and Maya the chance to take Emily head-on without any interference from the puppeteer.
  • The Bus Came Back:
    • Max and Dolly return, the former having not been seen since "Grandmother Knows Best" and the latter having last appeared in "A Surprising Visitor".
    • Jiminy Cricket returns following his debut and previous appearance in "Escape".
  • Call-Back:
    • Maya's destruction being a result of Luz, Kikimora and Hunter's actions are repeatedly mentioned. Upon seeing Kiki, Maya hijacks Luz's body to try and get some payback.
    • Skara confronts Boscha about her crush which she practically admitted when she stole Skara's First Kiss, a major revelation shown in "The Pride Special".
    • While telling Boscha about attacking her, Skara brings up the consequences that come with a lycan attacking civilians, which were hinted in "Grandmother Knows Best" and "Deserve Nothing" and shown here.
  • The Cameo:
    • Bria appears as an illusion cast by Gus to mess with Emily.
    • Jiminy Cricket shows up to the Order's meeting to deliver the message of Meteora's failed assassination attempt.
    • Kikimora appears in the school with the EC squad. that came there.
  • Can't Take Criticism: Emily slowly starts to lose her cool as Luz/Maya talk down on her for reinforcing Glandus' illusion prejudice among all her other misdeeds.
  • Cassandra Truth: Sly confesses to Luz, Amity, and Eda that the Collector is to blame for the witchlings that disappeared the last time he was on the Boiling Isles. Due to the Fae being notorious liars, they doubt his story, which he understands.
  • Character Development:
    • Luz, Amity, and Gus make peace with Gavin and Angmar as they'd rather not add anymore enemies to their very-expansive list or hold a grudge against them for their past mistakes. Gus also considers giving Hunter the benefit of the doubt over his past actions in comparison to his recent ones.
    • Cain, having realized what he's done, doesn't resist arrest like the other Top Students of Glandus. Instead, he stays seated next to Simon before being taken away willingly, asking his brother to pass on an apology to Beck and their father for him.
    • Elliot has come to accept that he was wrong to abandon his friends due to peer pressure and vows to make his own decisions from here on out.
  • Continuity Nod:
  • Crush Blush:
    • Nina has one during one of the flashbacks regarding the beginning of her attraction to Donna.
    • As Boscha hasn't gotten over her crush on Skara, her cheeks flush when Skara brings up Boscha kissing her.
  • Damsel in Distress: Miss Heinous captures Skara to use as a hostage against Luz and Amity so they surrender and be killed by her willingly. Gus manages to save her before that happens.
  • Defeating the Undefeatable: After losing to Emily twice before, Luz (with help from Maya, Amity and Gus) finally beats her in a fight.
  • Defeat Means Respect: Luz manages to earn Ukla's respect for putting Emily in her place, though Ukla didn't really participate in the war to begin with.
  • Death by Adaptation: Smee of all people dies as a result of the bullet he took in the last chapter.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Working together, Luz, Maya, Amity and Gus take down Emily. Unfortunately, the war isn't ending because someone else arrives to face them right after Emily loses.
  • Duality Motif: To signify that Luz is letting Maya share her body, one of her eyes remains hazel brown while the other is red. This wears off whenever Maya goes back into her mindscape.
  • Due to the Dead: Hook and his remaining pirates give a eulogy for Smee before sending his body out to sea.
  • Empathic Weapon: The Sword of Adam shows signs of being one as Amity says it called out to her.
  • Enemy Within: Parodied. Maya initially starts off as antagonistic towards Luz, but begins to work with her instead of against her to find a compromise to their situation.
  • Evil Is Petty: Emily started the school war because of her past, while Oberon sent an assassin after Luz and Amity because he felt his pride took a hit when they killed the Coachman.
  • Fate Worse than Death: Instead of being killed during the school war or arrested by the Emperor's Coven when it ends like Cooker, all of Glandus' teachers are turned into paintings by Ms. Traveler.
  • Final Boss: Luz delivers the final blow to Emily and she, Amity & Gus celebrate only for Miss Heinous to show up and attack them, making her their last opponent in the school war.
  • Flipping the Bird: Baum, Emily's palisman, does this when he abandons her for trying to use them as a hostage against Maya.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • In Nina's flashbacks, Donna mentions that her key "found her", acts as a conduit when she casts spells, and can open any lock.
    • The Sword of Adam grants Amity abomination armor and she says it seems to have called to her. 12 chapters later, it turns out the sword is linked to abomination magic and is an Ancestral Weapon of the Blights.
    • Ukla is worried that the Inner Demon may come after Yuki.
  • Frame-Up: This is why Sly, and by extension the Fae, are considered a threat: because Oberon sent the Collector to take the witchlings as payment for Sly driving away the Colo Colo infestation and he lost them, Sly was blamed and took to Walking the Earth feeling responsible for it.
  • Given Name Reveal:
    • Lord Oberon's ex-wife is known as Queen Titania, or rather, the Blue Fairy.
    • Emily's (former) palisman is named Baum.
    • As it turns out, Stella's real name is "Glinda"; she's been going by her middle name this whole time.
  • Hopeless Suitor: Boscha knew Skara would never return her feelings for her, but she had learned a while ago that her crush had never gone away despite Skara being in a relationship.
  • I Have Many Names: The Coachman had another name: L'Omino.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Tarak (who's still unnamed) leaves a letter for King, which Hooty eats due to a bug crawling on it.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Luz learns that Maya's soul is now stuck in her body. Willow, Gus, and the residents of the Owl House later meet Maya and learn about her situation with Luz.
      • Luz learns about Emily being an illusionist from Maya.
    • Luz, Amity and Gus learn from Skara that Viney took Boscha to Dr. Bride, that Miss Heinous is a Fae, meet Ukla for the first time and how she, Angmar and Gavin befriended Boscha, and about Bria disappearing.
    • Boscha, Skara, Athena and Tom meet Dr. Bride and Max for the first time.
    • Athena admits to Boscha that she's known about Tom living in their attic for some time.
    • Skara tells Boscha that she always knew about her feelings for her before confessing that she's the werewolf who attacked her.
    • Boscha tells Athena that not only had Boris been part of a rebellion, but said rebellion got arrested during the Gland Prix.
  • Irony: Emily, the master illusionist and utilizer of Break Them by Talking speeches, ends up falling for an illusion of Stella standing up to her, which Gus conjured (and even points it out) and Luz and Maya's prodding which seals her fate.
  • Just Friends: When Skara asks about Tom, Boscha quickly says he's her best friend and nothing more.
  • Karma Houdini:
    • Asi and Horace have managed to escape from Glandus before the Emperor's Coven arrives, but nobody knows this.
    • Kadabe has now gone underground, knowing she'll be hunted down for her actions during the war.
  • Kid Has a Point:
    • Skara confesses to Boscha that because of how toxic their friendship was, they wouldn't have had a healthy relationship had they dated, something Boscha agrees with after seeing what Emily and Stella had.
    • Belos can't deny that Luz's rant against him has some fair points, as the school war took away time the kids could've been using to focus on their studies.
  • Killed Off for Real: Smee and Craig are confirmed to have died due to the injuries they received in the previous chapter.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Played With. Wielding the Sword of Adam, Amity is enveloped by an abomination head that transforms into knight's armor for her to wear. While she doesn't have to rescue her princess (Luz), she is ultimately the one who slays the dragon (Meteora).
  • Laser-Guided Karma: Most of Glandus' forces are taken into custody, including Emily (who takes a massive loss from Luz and has a Villainous Breakdown), the Top Students, and Cooker.
    • Miss Heinous is slain by Amity using the Sword of Adam for trying to kill her and Luz, though it's later downplayed when she's shown to have survived somehow.
    • McScream is beaten up by Gavin, Angmar and Ukla before being shot out of his own Cannon of Shame. He's later brought before the Boss and left at the mercy of one of his goons, Lupe.
    • For calling the Order's meeting so Miss Heinous can kill the girls, Oberon is placed under house arrest and receives a second strike against him.
    • Nicole is confronted by Athena over Boscha's injuries, and she gets kicked out of their home because her need for revenge against the Clawthornes has taken over the entirety of whatever common sense she had.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: While having a moment alone with her mothers, Luz admits she feels that everything they've gone through in the last week was like "a really long story arc."note
  • Locked Out of the Loop:
    • Gus invokes this by keeping Hunter's presence and involvement with the EC showing up a secret from Luz and Amity.
    • Viney is flabbergasted that Glandus had been completely destroyed in the time it took her and Puddles to get Boscha to Dr. Bride's clinic.
  • Luminescent Blush:
    • Boscha can't help doing this when Skara admits she knew about Boscha's crush on her all along.
    • Luz and Amity blush in embarrassment after Maya's blunt accusation of what they do when they sleep together.
  • Mama Bear: Or rather, Fox. Upon learning of Oberon's plan to kill Luz and Amity, Kitsuni immediately returns to the Demon Realm to check on them.
  • Master of Illusion: Invoked. Kitsuni claims she's part of the Illusion Coven when questioned by Felicity, even having a fake coven sigil on her arm to sell it.
  • Mistreatment-Induced Betrayal: Emily's palisman Baum abandons her for threatening to break them, to which Maya says they'd never return to her because of that.
  • Multi-Part Episode: This is the final act of the "Glandus War" 4-parter.
  • Nasal Trauma: Luz/Maya break Emily's nose over her knee as they finish her off.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • While everyone was busy, Brucy and Batters had an adventure involving cannibalistic students.
    • What did Oberon do to recieve his first strike?
  • Not-So-Final Confession: Nina, believing that she's going to die, texts Donna to tell her that she loves her. Fortunately, she's saved by Donna.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: Maya is now sharing Luz's body with her until they figure out a suitable alternative, Ms. Traveler, Kitsuni, and Sly are working together to keep Amity being part Fae a secret between them, lest the emperor or Oberon get to her, and Athena has kicked Nicole out while allowing Tom to stay with her and Boscha.
  • Offscreen Moment of Awesome: At some point, Batters found Brucy and used him to battle a mob of cannibal students while trying to get him back to Luz.
  • Oh, Crap!: Tito says this when he sees Amity holding the Sword of Adam, as he knows this means Emily lost, shocking Weaselton, Goregon, and Ruth.
  • One-Winged Angel: When Meteora gets pissed off enough, she decides to do away with subtly trying to kill Lumity and dragons up, decimating Glandus in the process.
  • Only One Finds It Fun: Terra is the only Coven Head who goes against the idea of abolishing the school wars since she enjoys watching the kids fight each other to the death. Although Hettie hesitates, Terra's ultimately out-voted when the other Heads and Belos decide to end them for good.
  • Pet the Dog:
    • Realizing that Nina will die if the EC learns about her impaling Boscha, Skara begs her to say Miss Heinous did it and vies to get her mom to show Nina mercy. After learning Skara's the werewolf and what would've happened to her for her attack, Boscha agrees to do so.
    • Hunter refuses to let the Emperor's Coven take Emmiline and Hogarth to be consumed by Belos and returns them to Gus and Athena.
    • Taking Luz's rant about the school wars being pointless now to heart, Emperor Belos decides to cease with said tradition once and for all.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • Luz, Eda and Amity learn about the Collector between the events of "Knock, Knock, Knocking on Hooty's Door" and "Eclipse Lake".
    • Hunter begins understanding Flapjack before the trip to Eclipse Lake.
    • Meteora wasn't separated from her parents by the Magic High Commission in this timeline, but taken from them by Oberon.
  • The Power of Rock: At Sly's urging, Luz plays a parody of "Don't Bring Me Down" alongside him as they face off against Meteora.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Luz gives three juicy ones to several villains.
    • First she calls out Emily for being a very gifted illusionist who could've used her skills to get her peers at Glandus to rethink their opinions about illusionists and inspire others to unlock their potential with illusion magic, only for Emily to reinforce the prejudice.
    • Then she lays into all the Glandus students who attempt to rush her, Amity, Gus, and Skara for pinning the blame of their school's destruction on her, reminding them that the war was Emily's fault to begin with and telling them to get over themselves.
    • Finally by high-jacking Felicity's live broadcast, Luz gives a long rant towards Emperor Belos calling him a useless, lazy idiot for allowing the school war to happen and questioning why anyone would enjoy watching kids fight to the death. It leads to Belos deciding to abolish the school wars for good.
  • Rejected Apology: Inverted. Maya initially rejects Luz's apology for absorbing her essence but knowing that keeping her trapped in her mind won't change anything, she at least agrees to a truce for the time being.
  • The Reveal:
    • The Fae are divided between the Seelies Clan, ruled by Oberon's ex-wife Queen Titania/the Blue Fairy, and aid mortals while the other clan, the Unseelies, are ruled by Oberon. Sly is part of Titania's court.
    • Asi and Horace have escaped from Glandus before the Emperor's Coven raided the school to arrest the teachers.
    • Emily's able to give her illusions a solid form because Stella creates and controls stone puppets which she casts her illusions over.
    • The Sword of Adam is made of iron (given that it injured Meteora), and seems to be sentient and capable of some kind of mental communication.
    • The Inner Demon has been preying on Glandus students for a long time.
    • Max is a creation made by Dr. Bride, commissioned by the Tempus family. When the Bank Coven, repossessed the house, Max was given back to the doctor.
    • The Collector was responsible for the witchlings that disappeared, not Sly. Oberon and Titania sealed him away, while Sly took to Walking the Earth out of guilt for his involvement in the aftermath.
    • Miss Heinous was kidnapped from Eclipsa and Globgor by Oberon, who told her that her parents abandoned her.
    • Kadabe is connected to Dolly Tempus and recovered her doll before it was destroyed.
    • The creature that's been pursuing Darius and William has some kind of alliance with Emperor Belos.
    • By accepting Puck's deal before joining him to rescue the Clawthornes from petrification, Amity became part Fae, hence why she now has a Living Shadow and possibly explaining her power increase.
    • King confirms that Craig died when Lilith electrocuted him.
    • Smee has succumbed to his wounds, and Capt. Hook holds a funeral for him.
    • Bo's parents run a clinic and one of them is a surgeon, meaning all of them are Healers.
  • Rhetorical Question Blunder
  • Secret-Keeper:
    • Gus decides against telling Luz and Amity about Hunter's involvement in his rescue from Nina and what he's been doing at Glandus.
    • Julia, Kitsuni and Sly decide it's better that nobody, not even Amity, learn that the girl's become part Fae.
  • Sequel Hook:
    • Luz and Maya must now learn to co-exist within Luz's body, with Maya deciding to wait before telling the Bat Queen she's alive in the future.
    • Asi, Horace, and Kadabe are still on the loose, and Kadabe now has the doll of Dolly in her possession.
    • The students of Glandus will be transferred to different schools since Glandus will be shut down. Gavin, Angmar, and Ukla are advised to take counseling under Ms. Traveler, and the former two inform Hunter about what happened to Bria, which will be investigated.
    • The Order decides to have a trial to debate whether or not Eclipsa is guilty enough to recieve a proper punishment or release while also punishing Rhombulous for his past actions on the Magic High Commission.
    • Only one labraptor survived the siege, and it escapes into the woods.
    • Lilith wonders if she's also capable of gaining a harpy form if she bonds with the Raven Beast.
    • Ms. Traveler, Kitsuni, and Sly agree to keep Amity being part Fae to themselves while making sure Emperor Belos and Oberon never find out, though they know Amity will learn for herself eventually.
    • Julia suggests Mai be enrolled in Hexside, much to Kitsuni's shock.
    • The Boss will no doubt be gunning for the Clawthornes now, while Nicole will be seeking revenge against Athena for kicking her out.
    • Eda considers getting into contact with members of the extended Clawthorne Clan to see if Beocrow really is related to them.
    • Grimhilde approaches Capt. Hook with some kind of information.
  • Sharing a Body: This is Luz's solution for making a truce with Maya for the time being: allowing her to share control of her body until they find a way to separate Maya's soul from Luz.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shown Their Work: Felicity's disliking to Kitsuni seems to be a Gender-Inverted case of the real-life instances where male foxes considering each other rivals and fight each other.
  • Split Personality: Again parodied regarding Maya, as she takes control of Luz's body every time she wants to make her presence known to everyone.
  • Teeth-Clenched Teamwork: Luz and Maya have shades of this due to occupying the same body, with Luz having to restrain Maya to prevent her from mauling Kikimora since they can't get into any more trouble with the Emperor's Coven than Luz is already in.
  • Therapy Is for the Weak: It's mentioned that Glandus High has no counselors for students because of this. As such, Luz suggests Gavin, Angmar, and Ukla contact Ms. Traveler to sort out their issues.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone:
    • Athena kicks Nicole out of the house both for not putting Boscha's well-being first and so Tom can live with them without worrying about her.
    • With everything the kids went through in the war Eda decides to lift Luz's grounding, allowing Amity to return to sharing Luz's room with her.
  • Token Evil Teammate: If Oberon's actions didn't already make him this to the Order, Scrooge outright saying nobody likes him should do the trick.
  • Tongue-Out Insult: For her final jab at Emily as she's taken away by scouts, Luz sticks her tongue out; this drives the disgraced illusionist into a hissy fit.
  • Trash the Set: In transforming into a dragon, Miss Heinous single-handedly destroys Glandus High.
  • The Un-Reveal: Brucy and Batters had to face cannibal Glandus students while the latter was trying to return Brucy to Luz. Just as Brucy begins to explain their adventure, we segue to Gus having his palisman returned by Hunter which leads to their talk.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Emily really loses it. Not only does she go berserk before losing to Luz and Maya, she's arrested and left throwing a hissy fit as she's taken away.
  • Villain Respect: Averted. Ukla was never a villain since she didn't agree with the war, but she gives Luz her respect for defeating Emily, as she avenged everyone Emily wronged, including Yuki.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: Miss Heinous, tired of the people that keep stopping her from trying to kill Luz and Amity, transforms into a dragon to finish them off.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Captain Dragonet of the Emperor's Coven shows up leading a squad to stop Meteora only to get crushed to death a few seconds later when she turns into a dragon and stomps on him.
  • Wham Episode: The school war ends in Hexside's victory with the Top Students being arrested, Sly helps Luz and Amity defeat Meteora who's taken away by Ms. Traveler and told of her past, Gavin and Angmar make peace with the Hexsquad, Beocrow claims to Luz that they're cousins, Maya agrees to a truce with Luz over sharing the latter's body for now, Amity's revealed to be part Fae, Oberon is placed under house arrest for trying to kill the girls, Athena stands up to Nicole and throws her out of the house while letting Tom stay with her and Boscha, and Luz seems to be showing more signs of PTSD.
  • Wham Line
  • Wham Shot: Amity grabbing the Sword of Adam, which proceeds to create a suit of armor around her using abomination goo.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: The Graux sisters have completely disappeared without a trace, with no word on whether they were defeated or arrested.
  • You Could Have Used Your Powers for Good!: As part of her "Reason You Suck" Speech towards Emily, Luz points out how Emily could have proven Glandus wrong about illusion magic being useless with her talents and inspired other kids to try their hands in it. Instead, she reinforced the school's prejudice on it and built a record of lies with Stella aiding her by giving her illusions form.
