Luz learns why fae are outlawed in the Boiling Isles; Hunter gets a few surprises; a grudgby game goes horribly wrong.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance: Bria and Gavin debut in the story's version of "Wing It Like Witches", rather than "Through the Looking Glass Ruins" next season.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Eddy, Hunter's nickname for Edric.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: "Why haven't you [Lilith] talked to Luz much?" This is what Amity asks Lilith when she realizes Lilith hasn't made an effort to contact or connect with her niece.

  • Calling the Old Woman Out: Amity gives Lilith one for never making contact with Luz despite using Amity to learn about her.

    • Tom is shown working as a referee on two occasions where Luz blew up from losing because of the Rusty Smidge.
    • Steve appears watching Emperor Belos and Hunter leave the castle before going to tell Lilith.

  • Cassandra Truth: Luz tries to tell Boscha who really hurt her and Amity backs her up, but Boscha's so mad she assumes they're to blame.
  • Comically Missing the Point: Simon bought into Cat taking him outside to heal his tounge, only for her to say it was an innuendo. He doesn't get it.
  • Commonality Connection: Edric and Hunter became friends and later a couple due to their interest in the Captain Coven series.

    • King still remembers his first encounter with Puck in "The Talk".
    • Amity tells Amelia and Cat she's been dating Luz since the semester began, which was the end of "Maternal Aspirations".

    • Luz remembers three instances in her youth when she joined a Boiling Isles sports team, only to get kicked off after blowing up from losing because of the "rusty smidge" rule.
    • A few seconds later, one is shown of Cat making out with Simon during the dance after Grom's defeat.

    • Mattholomule is forced to admit to Bo that he knows Bria, completely shaken from seeing her play.
    • Puck mentions some fae who go by the names "Oberon", "Barker" and "Maleficent". Eda also brings up the "Little Man", who cursed children by turning them into donkeys.
  • Full-Name Ultimatum: Odalia adressess her youngest daughter as "Amity Mittens Blight".
  • Get Out!: Boscha tells Luz and Amity to do this when her anger reaches a boil.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: The birthday present Boscha got Skara is a Fleshy Feeble, a stuffed toy from a series that she's collected 2 dozen of. In a gender-inverted case, Willow mentions her dad has one.
  • Held Gaze: After talking about giving Boscha a chance, Willow and Skara stare at each other for a moment before snapping out of it and turning away blushing.
  • Hidden Depths: Celine and Simon appear to have skill in playing grudgby.
  • Holding Hands: Now that their relationship is public, Luz and Amity can do this with no issues.
  • Homeschooled Kids: Hunter claims to be one when Edric asks what school he goes to.
  • Ignored Epiphany: Boscha was about to start giving Luz some leniency after everything she did to her but thanks to Puck, she throws that idea out the window.
  • Immediate Sequel: The chapter begins the morning after Grom.
  • Internal Reveal:
    • Lilith learns that Luz heard her voice at the exams.
    • Eda learns that Luz, Amity and Hooty are friends with Puck.
    • Odalia and Alador learn about Amity's relationship with Luz and decide to support it.
    • Luz learns Boscha and Simon are cousins, a fact her former posse knows of.
  • Leave the Two Lovebirds Alone:
    • Eda found Cat and Simon making out during Grom and left them to continue while also saying she won't tell Ms. Traveler about it.
    • Amelia and Cat make tracks after seeing Luz being affectionate with Amity, Cat even calling them lovebirds.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Puck sabatoges Boscha throughout the game and it ultimately ends with her getting cut across the face. When Luz and Amity try to explain what happened, Boscha assumes they were the cause and declares vengeance on them.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • Odalia canceled her family's newspaper subscription because the paperboy threw a paper through their window.
    • Tom worked as a referee because the Demon Hunters were out of work at different points.
    • Luz mentions she fought someone on the Glandus grudgby team once but can't remember who.
  • Open-Minded Parent:
    • Despite her suspicions about Puck, Eda trusts Luz's judgment as well as Amity's in regards to their friendship with him.
    • Alador immediately accepts Amity and Luz's relationship because of what they've accomplished together, and Odalia eventually agrees for the sake of Amity's health and happiness as long as she keeps no secrets about it.
  • Point of Divergence: The events of this chapter is completely different to "Wing It Like Witches". The first grudgby game of the season is shown and Amity's time as captain of the Banshees is mentioned, but that's it.
  • Precision F-Strike: Luz drops one on Puck after hearing him confirm he messed with Boscha.
  • Plot-Mandated Friendship Failure: For injuring Boscha and passing it off as trying to defend his friends, Luz ends her friendship with Puck with Amity following suit.
  • The Reveal:
    • Odalia's parents didn't react well to her relationship with Lilith.
    • The story of the Pied Piper was real: he was a fae who helped deal with an infestation of colo colos but was refused payment by the witches, so he kidnapped an entire generation of witch children as payback. Along with the Little Man, these incidents are why fae are banned from the Boiling Isles.
    • Edric met Hunter in a comic shop the same day his twin met Viney. They bonded over their shared interest of "Captain Coven".
    • Amity's middle name is "Mittens".
    • Glandus High's Grudgby team is called the Poltergeists.
  • Rite of Passage: The Emperor decides to take Hunter on a trip saying he's old and responsible enough for it.
  • Rule of Three: Luz is shown to have joined three different sports teams in her youth, all of which ended in disaster due to the Rusty Smidge.
  • Say My Name: Odalia during the Full-Name Ultimatum towards Amity.
  • The Scream: Implied to be Odalia's reaction to learning about Luz dating Amity.
  • Ship Tease:
    • The story of how Edric and Hunter met and got together is revealed.
    • Willow and Skara attend the grudgby game together and share a moment before looking away from each other, blushing.
  • Shout-Out:
    • Eda recalls an incident where a fae turned kids into donkeys.
    • Some of the Captain Coven facts Edric and Hunter list are from a few Marvel comics.
    • The gag of a student/fan announcing the Grudgby game while trying to find his seat and getting chased out of the booth by the actual announcer happened in the Spongebob Squarepants episode, "The Great Snail Race".
    • Puck mentions that the Pied Piper is currently going by the name "Sly".
    • One of the fae Puck mentions is Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty.
    • Dusty shouts "Grudgby-ball, go!" while throwing the ball. This hints at who he's based off of, at least if his appearance wasn't enough.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Edric and Hunter list several just to be the one who gets the last Captain Coven comic.
  • Stealth Hi/Bye: Puck pops out of a bush to greet Luz first thing in the morning.
  • Talk to the Fist: Luz slugs Puck for hurting Boscha without having a proper reason to.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Mattholomule knows he's about to be put through hell when Bria catches up to him.
  • Too Desperate to Be Picky: Having lost her original teammates, Boscha enlists Simon, Celine and Dusty Bringems to join the Banshees so she can play in the first grudgby game of the season.
  • True Companions: Puck really does enjoy being friends with the girls. Unfortunately, he make things more difficult for them.
  • We Used to Be Friends: Luz and Amity to Puck after learning he interfered with the game.
  • Wham Episode: Odalia and Alador learn of Amity dating Luz, Boscha is injured by Puck which causes Luz and Amity to end their friendship with him and Boscha to swear a vendetta to the girls, Bria approaches Mattholomule about her boss wanting to pass on a message and Emperor Belos takes Hunter to see the Weird sisters.
  • Wham Shot:
    • Belos leads Hunter to a cave with a singing cauldron... watched over by the Weird Sisters.
    • Lilith appearing before Luz and Amity in the last scene.
  • Wham Line:
    • "Well... has it been a year already?" Said by the Mother when she sees the Emperor and the Golden Guard.
    • Hello, Luz." Said by Lilith when she shows up after the game.
  • Wrong-Name Outburst: When Lilith is trying to get Amity to see she's not thinking of consequences, she calls her by her sister's name.
    Lilith: "Lately you've been acting without thinking of the consequences. Why do you have to be like this, Eda?!"
