Recap / Lucifer (2016) S03E12 "All About Her"

Go To

As Lucifer deals with the truth about Pierce, Chloe deals with his antics while investigating a surfer's death.

Tropes present in this episode include:

  • Actor Allusion: A subtle one. Based on her effect on Lucifer, Cain thought Chloe might be able to kill him. In other words, he was hoping Chloe would turn out to be his kryptonite.
  • Cassandra Truth: Discussed. When Lucifer threatens to tell everyone that Pierce is really Cain, Pierce scoffs at him to go right ahead, as "they don't even believe you're the Devil." Lucifer realizes that he's right.
  • Concealing Canvas: Maze has been practising her knife-throwing on the walls of the apartment and using Trixie's alien drawings to cover the damage.
  • Death Seeker: This is why Pierce is in Los Angeles, as he's hoping that if Chloe's presence makes Lucifer mortal, it can do the same to him. After thousands of years of eternal life, he's sick and tired, and all he wants to do is die.
  • Enemy Mine: Lucifer is mad at his Father for taking away his devil face and giving him back his wings. Cain is mad at God for condemning him to live forever. They decide to work together to end Cain's immortality in order to ruin God's plans for both of them.
  • Entitled Bitch: Justine Doble feels perfectly entitled to "send a message" by killing a man because she didn't like him on "her" beach— even though the beach is public property.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Okay, so Cain/Pierce is the first murderer who's spent all of human history killing, conquering, looting, pillaging, and in one of his more recent identities, running a brutal underground crime ring. Even still, he looks actually uncomfortable and a little ashamed of himself when he's called out on being a bully to his underlings.
  • Jerkass to One: Pierce keeps calling Dan "Espinozo" when he's adressing him, but uses "Espinoza" when Dan isn't within earshot.
  • I Cannot Self-Terminate: Not even while the Anti-Magic detective is present, as it turned out, much to Cain's dismay.
  • Immortality Hurts: While Cain can't actually be killed, he still bleeds and feels all the pain from his injuries. Even Lucifer seems uncomfortable with this aspect of Cain's immortality.
  • It's All About Me:
    • Lucifer seems to go out of his way on this, and Chloe finally calls him on it.
    • Justine's motivation for killing the innocent surfer is that he was spoiling "her" view.
  • Mama Bear: Charlotte tears Pierce a new one for upsetting Ella.
  • Nice Girl: When Pierce tells Ella that he only yelled at her because he was troubled by something else, Ella immediately forgets that she's mad at him and offers him a hug.
  • Nothing Personal:
    • Justine says that she had nothing against that particular surfer; she just wanted to make an example of someone so that the other surfers wouldn't gather at "her" beach anymore.
    • Lucifer theorizes that this is why he got his wings back; God needed to disrupt Cain's plan, and Lucifer was just a means to an end.
  • Not So Above It All: When Ella asks Pierce if he needs a hug after he confides in her that he was "in a bad place" the last time they talked, he shrugs and agrees. He even reciprocates the hug!
  • Overdrawn at the Blood Bank: If Pierce weren't actually immortal, the blood loss alone should have killed him. He says that this is as per the norm, and just grabs a new towel to staunch the bleeding.
  • Pet the Dog: Pierce apologizes to Ella for yelling at her, lets her hug him, and after a brief moment of hesitation, hugs her back.
  • Rich Bitch: Justine Doble is this in spades, whining about "vagrants" ruining the beach that she lives on.
  • Shout-Out: Maze's ringtone is the theme from Psycho.
  • Spit Take: Linda has one after Maze says that Amenadiel has been diagnosed with chlamydia.
  • Threat Backfire: As seen above, Lucifer's threat to "out" Pierce is deflated instantly by Pierce pointing out that if people don't believe Lucifer openly telling them that he's the Devil, who's going to believe that a cop is the world's first murderer?
  • The Unreveal: Whatever the "Sinnerman"'s motives were, they died with him; Pierce says that his accomplice had gone rogue and doesn't know what he had been planning.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Cain is sick of watching everything around him crumble to dust over and over.
  • Woman Scorned: Both Linda and Amenadiel are well aware of what Maze would do if she found out that they have been carrying on behind her back. Sure enough, when Maze sees them kissing, she stabs the table with one of her demon daggers.
