Recap / Kim Possible S 3 E 1 Steal Wheels

Go To

Kim starts feeling jealous of Ron's friendship with Felix when Ron begins spending more time with him than with her. Meanwhile, Drakken gets help on his latest plan from his cousin...Motor Ed!

This episode provides examples of:

  • Big Brother Mentor: Mama Lipsky leaves Ed in Drakken's care and asks Drakken to provide a positive influence to steer Ed away from his life of crime. Shego finds this absolutely hilarious.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: Both Drakken and Kim use Ed's signature "Seriously!" in the end of the episode, though, unlike his debut, they don’t do a Brief Accent Imitation
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Downplayed with Kim. While she isn't too clingy, she does feel jealous and left out when Ron begins spending more time with Felix.
    • Despite originally not playing video games, she pretends to be interested in them in order to join Felix and especially Ron again.
  • Connected All Along: Drakken and Motor Ed are revealed to be cousins.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Kim should have known better than to force all the cheerleaders to come to the gym by saying that there is a "big emergency", due to wanting to hang out with someone while they all had plans and prior obligations, which she knew about. Once they arrived and see that there is no emergency, they express their anger and leave.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Although she's obviously more villainous than her boss, Shego seems to have a higher sense of morality than Drakken and his cousin Motor Ed, because she questioned whether the two would actually stoop low enough to steal from someone who's wheelchair-bound.
Shego: Oh no, no you're not actually going to steal some kid's wheelchair?
Drakken: Newsflash, Shego, I'm a bad man!
    (Later on)
Shego: So you actually stole a wheelchair. What's next, candy from a baby?
    Drakken: Been there, done that!
  • Gilligan Cut: After Kim realizes that none of the people she knows are available to hang out with, she tells Monique that she can handle some "me" time and is not pathetic. Next shot shows her, alone, bored and miserably calling herself "pathetic".
  • Hourglass Plot: Kim feeling jealous of Ron when he starts hanging out with another friend mirrors Ron’s jealousy when Kim started hanging out with Monique.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Bonnie is rightly angered that Kim made all the cheerleaders come to gym, under the guise of a "big emergency", just due to being desperate to hang out with someone.
Kim: Ok, maybe it's not an emergency emergency. As long as everyone's here, how about frozen yogurt? Uh, my treat.
    Bonnie: (angry) Have a life!
  • Limited Social Circle: Played with. Despite being popular at school, on the cheerleader squad, and around the world, Kim's left with literally nothing to do when Ron makes plans with Felix instead of hanging out with her.
    • To be clear, after Ron made plans with Felix, Kim tried to call her other friend, Monique, who is unavailable due to having a shift at her job at Club Banana that night. They end up having the following exchange.
Monique: Sorry, Kim. I have O.T. at Club Banana tonight. Did you try Tara?
      Kim: Date.
      Monique: Hope?
      Kim: Grounded.
      Monique: Bonnie?
      Kim: Get real.
Monique: You could hang with the family.
      Kim: Parents are going out.
      Monique: Baby-sitting?
      Kim: Tweebs have a sleep-over.
Monique: I'm out of ideas, Kim.
    • Also, Friday night is Kim's "Ron night", so she didn't think to make any other plans. Once Ron gets busy, she is completely alone.
  • Mama Didn't Raise No Criminal: As the police take Drakken and Ed away, Mama Lipsky protests that Drakken is a good boy who must have been led astray by Ed.
  • One of the Boys: Kim gets jealous of Ron spending so much time hanging out with Felix, so she tries to be one of these in order to fit in with them. She can't pull it off, and she doesn't even enjoy any of the activities they do.
  • Pac-Man Fever: Ron owns a contemporary-looking console, but the controllers are fourth generation looking (aside from a wireless option based on sixth generation controllers). The zombie game that the characters play also looks and sounds more like a game from the early-to-mid 1990s than the early-to-mid 2000s.
  • The Reveal: Both Kim and the audience are surprised to learn that Drakken and Motor Ed are related (and cousins at that).
  • Riddle for the Ages: It's never stated exactly what Hope did to get grounded and thus, unable to hang out with Kim.
  • Ship Tease:
    • While this episode came before the better example, this one has a few moments of it. The best examples are at the start of the episode, where Kim is acting like hanging out with Ron is a date.
    • Also, the way she acts towards Ron and Felix's budding friendship is comparable to a girl watching her crush with another girl. It is also very similar to Ron's behaviour in Kim Possible Movie: So the Drama.
  • Villain Team-Up: Lampshaded hilariously by Kim.
Kim: (bewildered) How do my foes keep finding each other?
    Motor Ed: We're related.
    Kim: Seriously?
    Drakken and Ed: Seriously.
