Tropes

  • Abandoned Warehouse: Chen offers to set Davos up somewhere nicer, but his spartan accommodation reminds Davos of home.
  • Alternate Identity Amnesia: The episode ends with Walker changing to Mary and not remembering what just happened, or even who Davos is.
  • Blonde, Brunette, Redhead: The Canary 'sisters' are the Black-White-Asian version.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Davos takes note of Ryhno's gang who were watching him take down one of his targets.
  • Cut Himself Shaving: Ward had been frequently forced to make these sorts of excuses to explain the injuries he got when Harold used him as a punching bag.
  • Designated Girl Fight: Like last episode, downplayed. Colleen and Misty vs. the Crane Sisters is an all-women fight, but with Colleen against two of the Sisters, it's another brutal and dangerous fight.
  • Donut Mess with a Cop: Misty expresses a nutritional objection to this idea. Sugar will make you crash. If you want staying power, you need protein.
  • Evil Vegetarian: Davos, as lampshades by Chen Wu:
    "A vegetarian who murders people!"
  • Foreshadowing: Walker says the triggers for the Mary personality include falling water, flashing lights or sudden drops in temperature. We hear Dramatic Thunder through the episode until it starts raining just when an ambulance turns up with lights flashing; this plus Walker going out into the cold rain causes Mary to resurface.
  • A Good Name for a Rock Band: Ward comments that "The Crane Sisters" sounds like a band name, though he thinks it's a shitty one.
  • Hope Spot: Danny and Walker succeed in knocking out Davos, but Walker reverts to her Mary personality who refuses to help, while Danny is immobilized in an ambulance, leaving Davos free to escape the moment he wakes up.
  • Improbable Weapon User: The Crane Sisters fight Misty and Colleen with needles, plates, and a bike.
  • Interrogation Montage: Misty between Joy and Walker.
  • It's All About Me: Even after hearing how Harold was actively abusing Ward and regularly using him as a punching bag, to the point he was several times tempted to run away with her, Joy still feels more concerned about the fact he and Danny lied to her.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: On the other hand Joy points out that when it came down to it, her brother didn't run away with her, or warn her about their father. Joy also points out that her entire adult life has been dictated by Ward, and she has to go live her own life before she can contemplate returning to him to make amends.
  • Let Me Get This Straight...: Colleen getting the story of what the Crane sisters did to her boyfriend.
  • Lovely Angels: Misty and Colleen kick ass together, and their conversation in the car clearly foreshadows their future partnership.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Danny realises that Walker opening up about her dream cabin in Arizona is simply her getting him to let his guard down. Turns out she's planning to kill Davos as per her original deal with Joy.
  • Mythology Gag: Davos' 616 moniker of "Steel Serpent" is alluded to when the tattoo artist explains that Davos wanted a serpent tattooed on to him, and insisted they use their steel Tebori needles.
  • No, You:
    • When Ward gives Joy a What the Hell, Hero? for harming Danny, Joy shoots back that he tried to murder Danny when he first arrived in New York.
    • Danny accuses Davos of turning his back on tradition, only for Davos to turn it back on him for abandoning his post in K'un-Lun.
  • Oh, Crap!: Danny and Mary have one when Davos lights up a second iron fist.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: Walker has no problem aiding Danny to capture the new Iron Fist, in exchange for the same half million dollar fee she got for capturing Danny for Davos.
  • Sickening "Crunch!": There is a crunching sound when Davos smashes the Iron Fist against Danny's leg, breaking it.
  • Scar Survey: Walker shows Misty a knife scar to show the difference between those who make threats and those who carry them out.
  • Slipped the Ropes: Walker easily picks the lock of her handcuffs, and points out to a still-wounded Danny that there's nothing to stop her walking out the door right then.
  • We Can Rule Together: A Knight Templar variant; Davos states he no longer is mad at Danny, and tries to convince him to join him so they can fight side by side.
  • The Weird Sisters: Subverted; turns out the Canary sisters are just tattoo artists who were paid to do a job in the way Davos dictated. They don't know anything about how the supernatural aspects work.
