Recap / Iron Fist (2017) S2E7 "Morning of the Mindstorm"

Go To

As Danny steps up his training, Davos ramps up recruitment. Ward falls prey to old demons, and Misty butts heads with a captain.

Tropes:

  • All Crimes Are Equal: Any crime, great or small, merits death in Davos's view.
  • Badass Bystander: Even if Ward were sober, the bartender probably would have kicked his ass. He's no Iron Fist, but he can definitely throw a punch.
  • Bar Brawl: Ward gets drunk and starts one with the bartender, it doesn't end well for him and is a good sign of him hitting rock bottom.
  • Being Tortured Makes You Evil: Inverted; Walker's confinement in a cell in Sokovia caused the gentle Mary personality to emerge as a mental escape.
  • Chekhov's Gun: While Misty looks over the Erskine collection, there's a bell marked with the Wing family crest.
  • Continuity Nod:
    • An associate of Misty mentions a bulletproof guy in a conversation with her.
    • To the movies. Mary Walker was in Sokovia.
  • Cops Need the Vigilante: Misty tries to get the help of the local police, only to find they're dragging their feet on the investigation because Davos is killing off the Triads for them.
  • Dare to Be Badass: Davos recruits Rhyno and his crew by offering them a higher purpose, including being mystical martial artists.
  • Dissonant Serenity: Chen's calm demeanor while Davos punches holes through the wall he's standing in front of.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: Even Chen isn't happy when Davos kills some junkies he catches breaking into a car. He also thinks he's just recruiting Rhyno's crew as disposable sentries and doesn't approve.
  • Exact Eavesdropping: Ward walks into the NA meetings building, just in time to overhear Bethany confess that she's pregnant with his child.
  • Good Is Not Nice: Colleen begins her training by knocking Danny off his feet with a quarterstaff without warning.
  • Handicapped Badass: Even absent an eye, Chen handles Rhyno's gang pretty easily.
  • Heroic RRoD: Danny does not let a broken leg stop him from training himself. He ends up falling on the ground after an ill-advised kick.
  • Hospital Gurney Scene: The episode starts with Danny being wheeled through the hallways of a hospital, following his leg injury in the previous episode.
  • Manipulative Bitch: Joy subtly encourages Mary to trust Walker so she can bring her back, and approaches Davos as if she's reconsidered his offer, to find out what he's done with the bowl.
  • Off the Wagon: Played with. While Bethany shows concern that Ward is drunk at a bar as opposed to going in to work, he points out that he is in N.A. and not A.A. and while it is technically true that his addiction is drugs based and not alcohol based, it is obvious he isn't in a good place.
  • Pragmatic Villainy: Davos recruits Ryhno's gang because he needs people to guard his back for when Danny inevitably comes after him. Chen thinks they're meant to be expendable minions, but Davos says they won't be if they rise to the challenge.
  • Recruited from the Gutter: Davos does this for Ryhno's gang.
  • Sickening "Crunch!": There is a crunching sound when Davos crushes someone's neck with his foot.
  • Training Montage: We have a brief one when Danny turns their apartment into a private dojo, but rather than lead to a miraculous improvement it comes to a halt when he tries an ill-advised kick.
  • Wham Line: When Ward is about to arrive at the N.A. meeting too late, he hears Bethany revealing to the others present that she is pregnant with Ward's child.
