Recap / Infinity Train Voyage Of Wisteria End Of All Stories

Go To

With The Darkest Day done and the Infinity Train safe, there's only one thing left to ask: what's next?

The chapter has examples of the next tropes:

  • And the Adventure Continues: The second half of the epilogue ends this way, with Goh, Chloe and Regina venturing off into the Crown Tundra.
  • And Then What?: The main focus of the chapter. Chloe has finally properly let go of her anger and spite and ditched the Chloe of the Vermillion persona, Goh is no longer a broken mess of a person, and Ash is Ash. So, what are they supposed to do next? Goh's at a complete loss what his goal should be while Chloe can't shake off the feeling that it isn't over.
  • Back for the Finale: Or one of the two parts of the finale, but several characters who haven't appeared in a while including Kricketina, Bea, Lana, Professor Oak, Delia, Sean, and many of Goh's Pokemon return.
  • The Bet: Gary bets Ash can't catch Pokemon 'for once', getting Ash to use the Bug Catching Contest he and Goh are at to catch multiple Bug Pokemon to prove that he in fact can. Technically Ash doesn't match Goh's own bug escapades, but no one present outs him to Gary and he gets a Mega Stone for it.
  • Bookends:
    • Chronologically, the first car that was seen in the trilogy is the Pearl Gates Car. The last car to be visited is the same one.
    • Paul encountering Sean is what got him tortured and broken. He encounters Sean's reincarnation, Shawn, and it becomes the key to him finally being able to leave the train for good.
  • Call-Back: Naturally many for the end story.
    • Chloe is still not allowed anywhere near horror.
    • Goh once again references the Wumpa region.
    • Marnie references her meeting Ash in the Tangle and how he was Pure of Heart and attracting Galarian Ponyta.
    • Krickentina is still looking for a Pinsir since we last saw her, and finally catches one at the Bug Catching Contest.
    • Bea's second match with Ash references not only the aura factor of their first fight, but also his battle with Raihan.
    • We catch up a bit with the movies based on Chloe's misadventures.
    • Renji finally gets that date with Delia teased in the first story.
    • Leon notes that he never got around to punishing Bede for inadvertedly sending Hop onto the Infinity Train, with the narration revealing that Bede directly apologized to Leon before vanishing to find his own goal in life.
  • Contrived Coincidence: Paul ends up in the Pearl Gates Car, the same car that has Sean — the boy whom Paul accidentally killed in the Fog Car — reincarnated in.
  • Grand Finale: A two-parter, with the first focusing on what Chloe, Goh, and Ash are going to do now that the Infinity Train adventures are over.
  • Hidden Depths: Cinderace is actually pretty talented and interested in Pokemon Contests, partially thanks to his dancing interest as a Raboot.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The National Dex will expand with a new region's worth of data after this year's World Coronation Series. Rather convenient, ain't it?.
  • Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Is Chloe hearing the Infinity Train whistle or is she just being jumpy? Does her dream have any truth to it or was it just a really bizarre dream?
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Several of the adventures Ash or Ash and Goh get up to offscreen are very similar to events in Journeys, including Goh catching Raichu and the Flygon line, reviving Aerodactyl and Arctozolt, discovering Project Mew, Farfetch'd battling Rinto and eventually evolvin, Goh's Scyther evolving into Scizor, Ash obtaining a Key Stone, and Ash and Gary battling Moltres.
    • Professor Oak references the Omanyte Fossil that inspired him to become a researcher from Fossil Fools.
    • Cynthia in a swimsuit is referenced as something distracting.
    • Alain's canon status in the Masters Eight is referenced by the narration, though with the clarity that he wasn't able to reach the status due to the Infinity Train
    • Waspinator and Blurr's final fates were related to other transformer properties in Beast Wars II and the post series script readings of Transformers: Animated respectively.
    • Mad Ben's fate involved the finale of the Ben 10 reboot.
  • Noodle Incident: We don't see everything Goh tries, though we get snippets here and there about what happens offscreen.
  • No-Sell: At least in Chloe's dream, Ash is immune to being taken by the Infinity Train as 'the Avatar of Adventure'. As the story's at the end, there is no way to tell if this is actually the case.
  • Plot Parallel: Regina's history is very similar to Chloe's own at the start of Blossoming Trail and Chloe is quick to help Regina tell her parents exactly what's going on.
  • Real Dreams are Weirder: Chloe's dream starts with everyone but her, Ash, and Goh on the Infinity Train and descends from there with Arceus showing up and prompting Ash and Goh to (very casually) plan to kill each other and Chloe to decide the fate of another universe.
  • The Reveal: How far was Tiffany into the Galar gym challenge that made people assume her father had a hand in it? She was apparently stuck at Kabu before her train trip.
  • Sequel Hook: A few of the bits of epilogue open up the door for later story beats in the 'verse.
    • Chloe, Goh, and Regina's adventure in the Crown Tundra.
    • Ash's future adventures in the World Coronation Series and on the Isle of Armor with Serena and Trip.
    • Hop's trainer journey in Kalos.
    • Delia gets a letter from Ash's father.
    • Lusamine and Oleanna investigating the world of the Seeker of Crocus.
  • Shout-Out: WHAT HAS SCIENCE DONE!?
  • Simultaneous Arcs: Chloe's Regina day matches with Ash meeting up with Goh at Celadon. Goh's other adventures happened after the two points.
  • Stating the Simple Solution: Goh points out Ash could have just asked Korrina for help finding a Key Stone and Mega Stone instead of being part of Gary's bet. Ash admits he never thought of asking Korrina about it before.
  • String Theory: Trying to figure out what he will do with his life after everything, Goh ends up resorting to string. Professor Oak suggests blackboards next time, as they are less messy to clean up.
  • Time Skip: While an exact timeframe isn't specified, the chapter takes place some time after the events of Wisteria, at least enough so that Tiffany has left the Train by now.
  • Took a Level in Badass:
    • Chloe is vying out for the World Coronation Series, something even Goh wasn't expecting.
    • Goh's team in general have spent a lot of time training while he was gone, partially to be ready for the next Parker and partially as sparring partners with Ash's team. As a result Goh is able to battle and defeat Milo in a full Gym battle with Dynamax with Scyther, Hitmonchan, and Phantump, the latter of which evolves into Trevanant after a mutual round trade with Tiffany.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Dream Ash and Goh act as if Arceus showing up and talking is normal. Chloe very much does not.
  • Useless Useful Spell: Ash gets a Mega Stone from Gary, but it turns out to be Gardevoirite. Because Ash doesn't have a Gardevoir, it is unable to do anything for him.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Not every character was accounted for at the end: the fates of characters like Akemi, Miss April, Mr. Bradbury, Arnold Perlstein, and Zack and Ray were unmentioned.
  • Yin-Yang Clash: At least in Chloe's bizarre dreams, Ash is the Avatar of a Pokemon World with Humans in it and she is the Avatar of a Human World with Pokemon in it. Ash represents adventure in the Pokemon World while she represents adventure the Infinity Train. And they are meant to clash to determine the fate of everything.
