Go To

iHave a Lovesick Teacher is the 25th and final episode in the 1st season of iCarly.

Carly's teacher Ms. Ackerman (played by Jessica Makinson) starts treating her students harshly after her boyfriend dumps her. However, a visit from Spencer to sort out the dispute turns into a date, but she constantly creeps him out.

Tropes:

  • Adults Are Useless: Principal Franklin, while not appearing this episode, is seemingly unaware of Ms. Ackerman's unfair and abusive treatment of her students.
  • And There Was Much Rejoicing: After Ms. Ackerman was arrested in the end, Carly, Sam, Freddie, and all their classmates break out in wild applause.
  • Artistic License – Law: Downloading music for free isn't a crime and can't get someone arrested unless they were caught selling it for money.
  • Beyond Redemption: It becomes clear to the gang that Ms. Ackerman is a total lost cause who isn't even worth helping to find love again due to her making Spencer miserable and repeatedly abusing them and her other students. Her getting arrested is a huge relief for them.
  • The Big Guy: Sam plays this big time, as she is the only one strong enough to pry Ackerman away from hitting Spencer and Carly only feels confident enough to stand up to Ackerman when Sam is around.
  • Blatant Lies: When the online poll announces that Spencer and Ms. Ackerman should break up, Spencer cheers, and then tells Ms. Ackerman “I’m deeply sorry”.
  • Brutal Honesty: After realizing that they set her up, Ms. Ackerman calls the iCarly gang out on it. Freddie and Carly happily admit that they did set her up.
Ms. Ackerman: You set me up!
    Freddie: That's a lie.
Carly: (bluntly) No, we set her up.
    Freddie: (smiling) Oh, yeah.
  • Chekhov's Gun: The PearPod with 500 illegally downloaded songs on it.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Ms. Ackerman shows shades of this.
  • Digital Piracy Is Evil: The Godzilla Threshold the iCarly trio pull on Ms. Ackerman to finally be rid of her: get her to admit to pirating music on the PearPod she gifted Spencer, so she's swiftly arrested the next day for piracy.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: Ms. Ackerman gives Carly an F for a quiz she never took after Spencer broke up with her. Later, she tries strangling Spencer during the webcam for breaking up with her, forcing Sam to restrain her.
  • Does Not Like Men: Ms. Ackerman grows to hate all men after Spencer dumps her. Before she got arrested, she was going to make her students write a long essay on why men are horrible.
  • Double Standard: Abuse, Female on Male: Played with. While Lauren's unstable and borderline violent treatment of Spencer is mostly Played for Laughs, their relationship is still accurately portrayed as toxic and unhealthy.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Freddy can’t take his eyes off of Ms. Ackerman when he sees her in her red dress. Carly jokes that she should get him out of the room before he starts drooling.
  • Engineered Public Confession: The iCarly gang tricks Ms. Ackerman into admitting her crimes of illegal downloading by putting her on the show.
  • Epic Fail: Spencer forgetting to finish shaving before he takes the turkey out of the oven. His shaving cream lands right on the turkey.
  • Evil Is Hammy: Ms. Ackerman, a usual for antagonists in a Kid Com.
  • Evil Teacher: Ms. Ackerman, a selfish and abusive power harasser.
  • Hate Sink: Ms. Ackerman. She's a total jerkass with no redeeming qualities whatsoever, mistakes clinginess for normalcy in a relationship, and takes her rage out on her students whenever she gets dumped by her current boyfriend. Getting dumped by her first boyfriend and Spencer, and finally getting arrested at the end was well-deserved for her unpleasant personality.
  • Hypocrite: Ms. Ackerman keeps flaunting about how she spent her own money to buy a $500 PearPhone for her new boyfriend Spencer, but when it comes to the 500 downloaded songs, she claims she just used pirating websites and on the webshow, she states, "It's not about how much a person spends, it's the thought that counts".
  • Laser-Guided Karma: After everything Ms. Ackerman did to Spencer and her students throughout the episode, she gets arrested by the FBI for illegally downloading music on the PearPod, which she admitted on iCarly.
  • Last-Second Word Swap: Carly asks Spencer why he broke up with Ms. Ackerman and he starts to give an honest answer, until he remembers that Ms. Ackerman is sitting right next to him.
Carly: So, Spencer, why do you feel that you and Ms. Ackerman are having problems?
Spencer: Well, she seemed nice at first, but then I realized she’s totally insa—not my type.
  • Misplaced Retribution: Whenever Ms. Ackerman goes through a break-up, she takes her rage out on her students.
  • Mood-Swinger: Ms. Ackerman, whose behavior switches from sobbing to abusive, then to cheery, then back to abusive, then back again to cheery and then back again to abusive in this episode.
  • Physical Fitness Punishment: Fed up with Carly calling her out on her Psychopathic Womanchild behavior, Lauren punishes her (and then Freddie for defending Carly) with doing 100 jumping jacks. As for Sam who also joined in on lashing out at her, Sam is forced to wash her car.
  • Psychopathic Womanchild: Ms. Ackerman, who cries like a little girl and throws a tantrum when she doesn't get what she wants.
  • Put on a Bus: After Ms. Ackerman is arrested, she is not seen again for the rest of the series.
  • "The Reason You Suck" Speech:
Carly: Ms. Ackerman, you don't need to yell at Freddie in front of the whole class.
Ms. Ackerman: Oh, look! More back talk from the sass master!
Carly: I am not the sass master! And it's wrong for you to be mean to Freddie just 'cause your boyfriend broke up with you!
Sam: Wow, Carls. Maybe you are the sass master.
  • Running Gag: Whenever Ms. Ackerman leaves in frustration, just before exiting, she swats the tiny vase off of the bureau and it breaks.
  • Sadist Teacher: Ms. Ackerman, an abusive bi-polar nutjob towards her students.
  • Sadistic Choice: The iCarly gang's situation in this episode is a no-win kind: either Spencer suffers Ms. Ackerman's yandere tendencies or Carly, Sam, and Freddy suffer her Sadist Teacher tendencies. At the end of the episode, they Take a Third Option and get rid of her by getting her arrested by the FBI.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: Ms. Ackerman looks hot in her red dress. Carly, Freddy, and Spencer are all stunned when they see her.
  • Special Guest: Ashley Argota as the girl who explains Ms. Akerman's breakup, who will later play the role of Lulu on True Jackson, VP.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Ms. Ackerman in almost every scene she's in.
  • Tempting Fate: Carly, Sam, and Freddy talk about how mean Ms. Ackerman was to them after her last boyfriend dumped her and how lucky they are that she’s dating Spencer now, right before Spencer walks in and tells them he dumped her.
  • This Is Gonna Suck: Carly's expression when Spencer tells her Ms. Ackerman did not take his breaking up with her that well.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: Ms. Ackerman does this on her desk after her breakup with her boyfriend.
  • Yandere: Ms. Ackerman towards Spencer. She starts off as a sweet and shy woman who just wants to be loved. However, she starts changing the longer they’re together. She refuses to give him his own space for even one minute, constantly texts him and demands he text her back, invades his personal time and forces him to spend all his time with her. She also attacks him when she and Spencer appear on Carly’s show due to him breaking up with her.
