Season 1
Hilda, a plucky young adventurer who grew up in the wilderness for her entire life, is forced to move out and into the city of Trolberg after her home gets destroyed by a giant. She must learn to adapt to city life and to get out of her comfort zone, all while forging new bonds along the way.
The first season consists of thirteen episodes, with the first three and last two episodes adapting the first four graphic novels, and the rest being original.

Season 2
Taking place a few months after the first season, Hilda has largely adapted to city life and is enjoying herself, however, tension begins to grow between her and her mother, who is becoming weary and distrustful of Hilda due to her constant adventuring behind her back. Meanwhile, Erik Ahlberg, the egotistical leader of Safety Patrol, seeks to protect and defend Trolberg from the trolls outside the city walls, who might be planning an attack on the city for their own reasons.
The second season is a heavily expanded adaptation of Hilda and the Stone Forest, with the first and last episodes covering the bulk of the story, and the rest being original stories, several of which are based on a montage in The Stone Forest.
The second season consists of thirteen episodes and was followed up by an adaptation of Hilda and the Mountain King, which premiered a year later on December 30, 2021.

Season 3
Taking place sometime after the events of The Mountain King, Hilda and her friends travel outside of the walls of Trolberg to Tofoten, a village that is long rumored to be home to the mysterious fairies. While there and back home in Trolberg, Hilda begins to learn not only hidden secrets of her mother and great aunt Astrid, but some long buried secrets about herself as well.
The season consists of eight entirely new stories.
