Tropes

  • Agony of the Feet: When Frankie finally hits her Rage Breaking Point and tries to snatch Goofball's red nose off, he stomps on her foot to get away from her.
  • Big Eater: Goofball, who with Bloo's help, empties out the entire fridge that Frankie just recently restocked with a very hefty trip to the grocery store. He attributes this to him being a "growing teenage boy".
  • Bittersweet Ending: Frankie's lost the chance to go to the Fake-Outs concert and buy merchandise, and she's also lost all her money from Bloo (worth hundreds of dollars) but now Goofball is leaving for good (and turned out to be an imaginary friend after all).
  • Break the Cutie: Frankie when Herriman decides to completely forbid her from going to the concert and scrub the house some more for lying to everyone passing herself off as an imaginary friend with her Paper-Thin Disguise.
  • Butt-Monkey: Frankie. You can't help but feel sorry for all the crap Goofball and Herriman put her through.
  • The Ditz: Goofball, but ironically he tends to talk a lot making him a Know-Nothing Know-It-All. The fact that he had a hard time remembering his own name, AND his name say so.
  • Entitled Bastard: Goofball's mentality is "Take care of me!" and to leech off of someone for food, laundry, housing and help with his geometry homework. He treats Frankie like a maid and forces her to do everything for him as while he lays around and has fun. Frankie gets fed up and angrily pressures him to call his creator so he can take him home.
  • Foreshadowing: Herriman seemingly falling for Goofball's appearance could be a clue that he could actually tell he was imaginary after all, as when his creator and family put on the same red noses, he says it would never have fooled him if it were them.
  • Jerkass: Goofball McGee, who acts like an absolute Entitled Bastard towards Frankie forcing her to take care of him like his personal maid... until at the end when he decides to part with his creator and he thanks her for all she's done for him.
  • Jerkass Has a Point: Goofball's kid's parents end up proving Frankie's point about Goofball to Herriman when they put on fake noses and Bloo honestly believes they're imaginary friends. Though Herriman himself doesn't fall for it, hinting he knew Goofball really wasn't wearing a disguise.
  • Karma Houdini: Goofball never really faces any comeuppance for the way he treated Frankie.
  • Lazy Bum: Goofball, as he really does nothing but play video games and eat pizza (as well as ALL the food in Foster's Home) and makes Frankie do all his laundry and his homework.
  • Mistaken for an Imposter: Frankie thinks that Goofball is really just a human posing as an imaginary friend.
  • Rage Breaking Point: After missing the concert with several others going instead, including Goofball, and having it rubbed in her face, Frankie cries out "THAT'S IT!" and chases Goofball down to snatch his red nose and "prove" he's not an imaginary friend.
  • The Reveal: Turns out Goofball really is an imaginary friend! That clown nose was being used to conceal that he has an elephant-like trunk instead fo a genuine human nose.
  • "Shaggy Dog" Story: Despite Goofball's behavior, he was telling the truth the whole time.
  • Shout-Out:
    • There's one to the classic fairy tale Cinderella when Frankie is scrubbing away the floors and a bunch of imaginary mice surround her, before she shoos them away.
    • One of Goofball's human friends resembles a gender-flipped version of Nazz from Ed, Edd n Eddy. Most likely intentional, since the Eds have appeared on the show before!
  • The Thing That Would Not Leave: Goofball to Frankie.
