After Tammy steals her Halloween costume idea, Tina decides to go as a "sand-witch". She ends up getting a book of genuine spells from Mr. Ambrose, and uses them to give herself an edge. Meanwhile, Bob tries to find who's stealing his jack-o-lanterns.
Trope-a-Witch:
- Accidental Misnaming: Mr. Fischoeder calls Teddy "Freddy".
- Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: Mr. Ambrose says that Jackie creeped out their coven. She wanted to go dark, cast revenge spells, and "never chipped in for pizza."
- Big "NO!": Bob’s reaction when his jack-o-lantern is stolen, well in Linda’s version of the story at least.Bob: I didn’t scream "Noooooooo!" I said, "No." Actually I don’t even think I said no, I think I said something cool like a swear.
- Brick Joke: Louise gets out of her book report because Ms. LaBonz had jury duty. During Tina's speech at the end, LaBonz reveals more details.LaBonz: He was guilty. We were done before lunch. I went to the mall for the rest of the day.
- Calling Parents by Their Name: Tina calls her mom by her full name to cast a spell on her, which Linda doesn’t appreciate.Linda: Don’t call me Linda Belcher, it’s creepy!
- Cheaters Never Prosper: Tina tries to use a spell to win the costume contest. She ends up losing to Regular-Sized Rudy.
- Copycat Mockery: Louise is banned from entering the costume contest because the previous year she dressed up as a very unflattering portrayal of Mr. Frond.
- Curse: Jackie the Crossing Guard curses Tina when she’s rude to her at the crosswalk.
- Dark Horse Victory: Regular-Sized Rudy ends up winning the contest, dressed as Bip the Clown.
- Drunk on the Dark Side: Tina starts believing that she’s a real witch and the power goes to her head, giving her quite the attitude.
- Everyone Has Standards: Jimmy Pesto's bartender Trev draws the line at calling Bob "crazy", saying mental illness is no joke.
- Failure Montage: More specifically a series of flashbacks depicting Tina always losing the Wagstaff costume contest, including one year where Frond actually read her name out as the winner before revealing he meant to announce a student with the same initials.
- Halloween Episode: Tina wants to win the Halloween costume contest so badly that she learns magic to try to cheat.
- Insane Troll Logic: Mr. Fischoeder justifying stealing Bob's pumpkins.Fischoeder: I thought we had an understanding. You carve them and leave them out, and then I take them. It's like how people keep giving me bikes.
- Laser-Guided Karma: Tammy steals Tina's idea to win the contest, and ends up losing.
- Living Crashpad: Tina falls off the stage during the costume pageant, but she's okay because she fell on top of Tammy.
- Magic Librarian: Mr. Ambrose is a regular practitioner of witchcraft. Though it's played with in that, due to the show's realistic setting, none of his spells actually do anything.
- Maybe Magic, Maybe Mundane: Initially discussed at the end before Tina notes that everything the "spells" accomplished were probably in place to happen normally.
- No Kill like Overkill: Teddy's father went a little overboard trying to stop squirrels from eating the jack-o-lanterns.Teddy: One year my dad sat in the bushes with a BB gun and waited for the squirrels to come. Well, it wasn't the BB's that got 'em. He also poisoned the pumpkins. That was, uh, not my favorite Halloween.
- Noodle Incident: Mr. Fischoeder apparently steals bikes.
- The Reveal: Mr. Fischoeder is the jack-o-lantern thief.
- Shout-Out:
- The title is one to Teen Witch.
- The Store Next Door is named "Sag Me To Hell".
- In one of the flashbacks to past Halloween contests, Tina is wearing a kangaroo costume with a ship captain's hat.
- In another one of the flashbacks, Tina’s outfit is a pretty clear reference to Liberace.
- Gene tells Tina she could go as “Cheer-bacca” for Halloween, a mix between a cheerleader and Chewbacca.
- Louise isn’t surprised that Mr. Ambrose is a witch because “he does ride to school on a bike with a little dog in the front basket.”
- Louise tells Tina to “cast it, cast away” and Gene says not to bring up that movie because it always makes him cry.
- Sore Loser: Discussed; when Tina complains about always losing the costume contest, Louise quips that she could dress as a sore loser again.Louise: You're great at that costume.
- Tear Jerker: In-universe; Gene cites Cast Away as a movie that makes him cry. Louise merely bringing it up nearly accomplishes the same effect.
- They Look Just Like Everyone Else!: Mr. Ambrose claims this about witches, dismissing Tina's assumption that they follow the pointy hat/broomstick stereotype. His point gains merit when Jackie the crossing guard reveals herself as a witch to curse Tina for being rude to her.
- Took a Level in Badass: Tina becomes a lot more confident after becoming a witch."Hey, Jimmy Jr. Wanna walk my ass to class?"
