Recap / Alfred J Kwak S 2 E 26 Nog Lang En Gelukkig

Go To

Alfred and Winnie get into a fight and break up. Dolf escapes from prison and takes Winnie as a hostage. Alfred does everything he can to find the villain and the woman before it's too late.

Tropes:

  • Ambiguous Situation: Was Dolf arrested again, or could he be sentenced to death?
  • Anguished Declaration of Love: When Dolf pushes Winnie in front of the camera during his ransom message, she says to the camera that she loves Alfrednote .
  • Artistic License – Gun Safety: Alfred hugs Winnie with both arms while he's holding a loaded gun.
  • Back for the Finale: Ollie and his wife, their kids, Tom, Snel, Igor, sir Poen van Kalekoen, colonel Rangpang, professor Ramses, Pikkie, captain Stoppel, Franz Ferdinand, inspector Sherlock, Kwa Wana, and Blanche Wana.
  • Big-Lipped Alligator Moment: Dolf's dream my or may not signal some kind of a psychological thing, but it's confusing and comes out of the blue during the last five minutes.
  • A Birthday, Not a Break: Winnie had been kidnapped some days earlier, but the blackmail messages, the trackdown, and the final confrontation all take place on Alfred's birthday.
  • Break-Up/Make-Up Scenario: Alfred and Winnie have an arguably unnecessary-to-the-plot fight. It also feels like an Out-of-Character Moment for Winnie.
  • Call-Back:
    • Pyramidland gets mentioned.
    • Dolf's world domination dream has a similiar outline to his dream in episode 25 where the NCP rule was falling apart. Both dreams feature Dolf holding a grand speech, only for the audience to dissappear and Alfred alone to remain. However while Alfred in the previous dream clapped for Dolf, the Alfred in this dream stands against him and tells him he only wants to destroy the world.
  • Damsel out of Distress: Winnie frees herself and gets ready to bludgeon Dolf with a chair when he returns, only for Alfred to show up to rescue her.
  • Dance Party Ending: The final scene features everybody singing and dancing before the "camera" zooms outside Alfred's house and the episode ends.
  • Deranged Animation:
    • Dolf's facial expressions have elements of this, especially since everybody else's expressions look more normal.
    • Dolf's jump over the bush (after jumping out of the window) looks weird, stiff, and exaggerated - nobody has been shown jumping like that.
  • Do Not Adjust Your Set: Dolf takes over at least one television channel with messages that are apparently not pre-recorded. He does this twice from his hideout, through unclear means.
  • Double Entendre: In the finnish dub Winnie suggests to Alfred that they celebrate his birthday "just the two of us". In a way that sounds like she's propositioning him sexually.
  • Dub Name Change: The city Dolf mentions in his directions that may or may not be made up is called Kola in the finnish dub.
  • Faint in Shock: Winnie faints when Dolf repeatedly threatens to kill her to get information out of Von Paljas. She's unconscious for an abnormally long time.
  • Freeze-Frame Bonus: Dolf's mustache looks different again.
  • Futile Hand Reach: Alfred reaches out with his wing when Winnie breaks up with him in the park and walks away.
  • Inexplicably Tailless: Dolf still has a tail. However it dissappears after he puts on pants.
  • Insane Troll Logic: Alfred was late for his date with Winnie because he was distracted talking about Dolf with Henk. Initially Alfred blames Henk which makes sense, but he then ultimately concludes that it's somehow Dolf's personal fault that Alfred was late.
  • Last Villain Stand: Having lost everything and propably with the Morena criminals after his head because of his debts, Dolf takes Winnie hostage and tries to get a final revenge on Alfred by killing him.
  • Little "No": Dolf in the finnish dub after the police has surrounded him. It sounds like it was supposed to come out as a Big "NO!", but it's too quiet for that.
  • A Nazi by Any Other Name: Geppe appears to straight-up do a Nazi salute, instead of the original NCP salute (which was hand-on-the-heart).
  • Off-Model:
    • When Alfred arrives to the theater, Winnie's head turns in an unrealistic angle for the position the rest of her body is in.
    • When Dolf lies down on the bed, the colorists have missed the inside of his beak which has been left white.
    • The pillow on the chair Winnie had been tied to is nowhere to be seen when she's shown just getting out of the ropes.
  • Put on a Prison Bus: Dolf is last seen when the police surrounds him with guns drawn. He had already been sent to prison and escaped, so he may get another charge for kidnapping Winnie as well as a longer sentence.
  • Revolver Cylinder Spin: Dolf does this when he prepares to shoot Winnie if Von Paljas doesn't tell him about the blueprints.
  • Revolvers Are Just Better: Dolf uses a revolver.
  • Recycled Animation: The same dance animations are recycled right after their first use in the final scene, in the exact same order.
  • The Remnant: Geppe and presumably some others are still loyal to Dolf and aid him.
  • Series Continuity Error:
    • The NCP salute is wrong, and archive footage on the television shows all the NCP members wearing bicornes - while actually only Dolf ever wore the bicorne, and every single other party member wore the same kepi.
    • The terrain all around Alfred's house and all the way to Polderstadt is supposed to be flat. When Alfred runs to the theatre, there are suddendly hills near his house.
  • Shout-Out: Alfred and Winnie were supposed to see Hamlet.
  • Signing Off Catchphrase: The final line in the series is Alfred's "Pico bello!"note .
  • Skewed Priorities: Henk thinks he should bring up the fact it's Alfred's birthday, as if it would somehow help.
  • Surprise Party: At the end Alfred and Winnie go to Alfred's house, where they're surprised by the majority of Alfred's friends and allies from across the series throwing him a surprise birthday party.
  • Toothy Bird: Dolf in his dream, just before dream!Alfred reveals himself and immediately after.
  • Unexpected Character: Geppe (Hermann in english) is a minor NCP character who last appeared in episode 25, so you propably weren't expecting to see him at this point.
  • Vague Age: How old is Alfred supposed to be at the end? People have called him young through season 2, but Dolf and Ollie who are about the same age as him are clearly adults by at the very least season 2. Tom being twelve would mean the animals age like humans, but the timeframe of season 2 is very unclear - did everything happen during the same summer, or were there massive timeskips every once in a while, or how many? Be it what it may, the cake only has eight candles.
  • Villain in a White Suit: Dolf. Somehow the television stock footage has a photo of him in the exact same suit he wears after his breakout, which he has never worn before.
  • Weapon of Mass Destruction: The alpha beamer, allegedly. It's neither explained or shown.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?:
    • The alpha beamer is completely ignored immediately after Dolf has made off with the blueprints, and they aren't mentioned at any later point in the episode.
    • Where was Von Paljas' receptionist after Dolf had broken in?
    • The police got a tip that somebody working in the prison helped Dolf escape. But did they catch Geppe or not? What about possible other accomplices?
