Finn offers to help Flame Princess get over her worries about her evil tendencies by taking her along on an adventure with him, trying (with limited success) to teach her to solve problems non-violently.

Tropes

  • All Webbed Up: Finn by the Giant Goo Skull.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Flame king bursts from the stove and totally embarrasses his daughter. Cue FP covering her face in embarrassment.
  • Bowdlerise: The scene where Flame Princess is following Finn through the dungeon, thinking to herself that she's not enjoying it as much as Finn is, originally had her thinking "At least [Finn's] got a cute butt." This was changed to "At least he's walking fast," in subsequent airings and releases of the episode.
  • Brick Joke: Finn shouting "Do the splits!" at a skeleton comes back when Flame Princess does the same thing to the Giant Goo Skull while intimidating him into letting Finn go.
  • Chainsaw Good: The Giant Goo Skull has chainsaws tied to his joints and the top of his head.
  • Chest Monster: Flame Princess unlocks the cupboard in the cave to reveal a sinister human-skull-headed skeletal bird that snarls "Take my place!".
  • Dark Is Not Evil: The one-armed skeleton is rather meek.
  • Dem Bones:
    • There are skeletons of different varieties in the dungeon, one is a big headed one that lacks a right arm and then there's a brutish skeleton warrior. Though the former finds his arm and the latter is a hologram.
    • There's also a human skull headed bird that was sealed in a coffin. As well as strange, green eyed skeletons called Goo Skulls that shoot out sticky green substances from the green orbs in their chests.
  • Dungeon Crawling: Finn and Flame Princess spend the episode in a dungeon.
  • Gainax Ending: Flame Princess finally opens the chest, to reveal a weird green entity shaped like a pair of buttocks, that winks at her. The end.
  • Hologram: The giant skeleton warrior turns out to be a harmless projected hologram.
  • Kill It with Fire: Flame Princess' default solution to things is burning them.
  • Large and in Charge: The Giant Goo Skull is implied to be the leader of the Goo Skulls.
  • Pyromaniac: Flame Princess's reaction to Finn's suggestion that they visit a farmers' market on their next date is to suggest burning it.
  • Sequel Episode: This episode follows up on Finn's idea of teaching Flame Princess to be good in "Ignition Point".
  • Shout-Out:
    • When asked to rate her accuracy at shooting small flames on a 100 point scale, Flame Princess's answer is "42".
    • The title format "SCARY THING of SCARY THINGS" is common in old-school Dungeons & Dragons modules and Fighting Fantasy gamebooks.
  • Underestimating Badassery: What the Giant Goo Skull does till Flame Princess pulls out Finn's sword to threaten him.
