Basic Trope: An evil character gets mutated or deformed due to their evil ways.

  • Straight: Emperor Evulz is horribly deformed due to his meddling in dark magic.
  • Exaggerated:
  • Downplayed: Evulz begins to neglect his appearance to study magic, becoming dirty and haggard.
  • Justified:
  • Inverted:
    • As Evulz continues to dabble in dark magic, he becomes more and more attractive.
    • Evulz kept getting confused for a monster and thought he might as well as become a monster if everyone is just going to assume he is anyway, he looked at his reflection and went insane, he was so ugly people avoided him like the plague and went mad after years of isolation or he is so envious of other people's looks he feels like he needs to kill them. In other words, Evulz was turned evil by his ugliness.
    • Harry joined the heroes and became more attractive looking as a result.
    • Harry joins the heroes and becomes hideous because he can no longer sacrifice virgins to maintain his good looks.
    • Harry ends up becoming ugly due to collecting many hideous scars fighting evil and protecting others. At least those who know the origins of his scars respect him for his sacrifices.
  • Subverted:
    • Evulz is warned that his dabbling will cause horrible mutations to his body, but he is careful and is able to avoid any changes...
    • Evulz uses magic to undo the changes.
  • Doubly Subverted:
    • ...until he takes it one step too far and things get very bad, very quickly.
    • The magic to change his looks is nothing but an illusion, and there is still something off about his appearance.
  • Parodied:
    • Evulz is in constant competition with his super villain rivals to see who can make themselves the ugliest through practicing dark magic.
    • Evulz gets a small scar on his neck because of his experimentation. Everyone reacts to it like he has a second head growing out of it.
    • Alice is a Head-Turning Beauty that decides to stab a random citizen on the street For the Evulz. She instantly becomes ugly to the point where people always look away from her when close by.
  • Zig Zagged: Evulz dabbles in a wide variety of magical schools and is constantly mutating into different forms, with some being attractive and some ugly.
  • Averted: Evulz's devotion to dark magic never affects his appearance.
  • Enforced: The film is being written as An Aesop concerning irresponsible dabbling into new sciences and technologies.
  • Lampshaded: On one of Evulz's dark magic kits: "Warning: Side effects include boils, moles, unusual hair growth, and other deformities."
  • Invoked: Evulz is tired of being so good looking, so he pursues dark magic because it's rumored to make people uglier.
  • Exploited: Bob shows the notoriously vain Evulz a before-and-after picture of himself. Evulz, angst at what his dark magic has turned him into, pulls an instant Heel–Face Turn.
  • Defied: Evulz decides to give up on dark magic when he learns about the consequences it could have on his body.
  • Discussed: "Evulz, haven't you seen what happens in the movies? Don't you realize that all this dark magic is going to leave you twisted and deformed?"
  • Conversed: "You ever notice how all these villains get uglier and uglier over time?"
  • Deconstructed:
  • Reconstructed:
    • Evulz discovers an antidote that will reverse the crippling mutations without forcing him to give up dark magic.
    • Alternatively: Evulz's dark powers fix his physical disabilities, and make him powerful enough to take on the world himself, even as they warp him into something that can best be described as "Lovecraftian".
  • Implied: Evulz was much more attractive when he was younger, but it's unclear if he lost his looks to evil or just age.
