Well, Zombieland is a HORROR-comedy. So the HORROR part has to be featured too.
  • According to scenes in the movie's opening credits, some of the zombies were victims of the virus who zombified during various activities. Some of those zombies in those same scenes show no signs of bites. This implies that Patient Zero was NOT the only person to consume a tainted meat product. This is Nightmare Fuel because this helped spread the virus even further.
    • Heck, the mere fact that this movie's Zombie Apocalypse started because of a tainted burger is scary in of itself because of the fear of the idea of food poisoning (which also add Paranoia Fuel into the mix as well) coupled with zombification from a very unexpected source that no one saw coming.
  • The zombie kids from the intro themselves. Yes, not even children are immune to the virus. It's especially scary because those kids had their whole lives ahead of them only for their lives to be cut way too short due to the zombie disease.
  • Columbus revealing that he has a big fear of clowns in narration. He's sitting at the toilet, then gets his shotgun ready in case something crawls up from beneath the door (as we saw happening to the gas station attendant during the opening scene), and before he can even finish his sentence and reveal what he fears the most... BANG, a massive Jump Scare cord hits as we suddenly and jarringly cut to a clown beneath the door, mockingly laughing at Columbus but without making any audible noise before vanishing into a likewise silent puff of smoke, almost as if we're suddenly in a Surreal Horror film. The actual zombified clown Columbus faces off with at the end of the final battle is almost tame in comparison given his lack of build-up and effective scare.
  • 406's zombification (shown above). The fact that it took quite a long time for her to zombify and that fact that she zombified before Columbus woke up. Let's just say that Columbus is very lucky that he woke up before the zombified 406 attacked him.
  • The mere fact that some of the zombies in this movie are undead and some of them are not undead. Meaning that a survivor is never gonna know which zombie that did not receive a headshot is gonna get back up to attack and very possibly kill.
    • Worse yet, some of the undead zombies are smart enough to pretend to be permanently dead to catch victims off-guard, as demonstrated by the zombified cop in the intro of the movie.
  • Putting aside the Black Comedy related to a fat joke at the expense of an obese victim in a stadium running from one of the zombies, Columbus states that when the Zombie Apocalypse began, the first people to die were those who were fat and obese. Why exactly? Because they didn’t have the energy to run away, that’s why.
    • Plus, all the flesh on them most likely made them a mouth watering target for the cannibalistic zombies. Columbus makes a point of this when explaining the importance of his first rule, Cardio.
    • To make matters worse, the number of fat and obese people in the United States most likely helped contribute to the spread of the virus as well, due to obesity being an epidemic in the United States which would allow the zombie hordes to have an easy group of people to swell their ranks, as well as the weight of the fat and obese zombies combined with the zombies' dangerous strength due to losing their sense of pain, the combination of their weight with the zombie's strength allowing them to grapple and overpower unarmed humans and humans caught by surprise way more easier than thinner zombies doing the same thing to unarmed humans and humans caught by surprise, and the zombies' almost Olympic athlete-like running speed which even the obese and fat zombies have.
    • The fact that some of the zombies are undead does NOT help matters, as the undead fat zombies have Olympic-like running, lack of feeling pain, weight, and being undead as their advantages. Which would mean that the undead fat zombies would be the most powerful members of the hordes in the first movie.
    • Worse yet, imagine what a fat zombie, especially an undead fat zombie, would be like if it became a T-800 zombie?
  • As shown by Double Tap, some of the zombies are getting smarter, some are getting faster, stronger, durable, and more determined, and some can even use stealth. In other words, the undead bastards are adapting.
