This is a story with many scary moments. Among them:

  • Rori's time in the military would leave anyone with horrible trauma. But it's the least severe of the traumas he has to overcome.
  • What Rori went through at the hands of the slavers during captivity is nothing short of nightmarish. We don't see what happened, but we know enough to fill in the details for ourselves. The fact that slavery is legal in this setting only makes it worse.
  • It's never revealed what Xávirac did to that slaver. But whatever it was, there are no good options regarding his fate. "I made sure he'll never hurt anyone ever again." is all we find out. Even Rori is too scared to ask for details.
  • The side story that follows Satiirian is full of these moments.
    • He gives little indication of his intent to slaughter the slavers before he hits one in the head with the gold bar he used to pay for the slaves, crushing the guy's brain.
    • The slavers try to fight back, but it is no use. Satiirian slaughters them with little effort. Even when they seem to have him on the ropes, he was just toying with them.
    • One of them manages to shoot him with a gun. It does nothing but amuse and anger him before he turns the wielder into a bloody splat on one of the cells.
    • When he's finished, he orders the slaves he just acquired to come over to him. They are scared out of their minds after what they just witnessed, but do so anyway. Satiirian lifts a claw, reaches for their neck, and cuts the collars off and orders them to run.
    • Then he burns down the entire shop. It takes little more than an hour before everything is reduced to ashes. Dragon fire is not normal fire.
