- What Could Have Been: Or not have been. The entire story grew from what was intended as nothing more than a writing exercise.
- Word of God: Melissa is a former pet of Xávirac. Niko's former Owner was a cruel woman. Satiirian was the one who burned down the slave shop Rori was rescued from due to disgust over the appalling conditions.
- Write What You Know: Rori and Xávirac's date is an amalgamation of a couple of dates the creator had.
- Write Who You Know: Xávirac is based on a friend of the creator, albeit (slightly) idealized.
- Gloria is based on someone the creator went on a date with.
- The other characters contain some aspects of people in the creator's life.
