Monster Legends may just seem like a kiddy game with no skeletons in its closet at first. However, as you obtain better and later-made monsters and read their descriptions, you'll find that this game can get surprisingly disturbing on several occasions, especially with certain Legendary or Mythic monsters. Sometimes, it gets so bad, it can bring into question if it should even still considered a game for kids in the first place.

  • Obviously, several Dark monsters are going to provide plenty of scares. However, some of the worst have to be the Abominations, categorized by their special trait (which eventually became more widespread). Jasastur is a creature with spider legs on its tail, a tentacle for a face that bears a massive fanged maw and no eyes whatsoever, who used to exist only in terrible nightmares until a witch accidentally brought it to life in her sleep. Faugnar is a terrible, villainous man who was stopped by an anonymous hero until he learned how to become entirely made of smoke. Montauk Creature also tortures people in their sleep until they are weakened from insomnia, when she then presumably feeds on them. Yilitre is an all-powerful entity that can see all of time at once, and has way too many fucking eyes all over his body (though he thankfully seems to be benevolent). The absolute worst, however, in terms of appearance, has to be Krugbo: a positively disgusting horror with entirely black skin, spider limbs all over, and razor-sharp teeth-filled mouths everywhere on its body (some of which also have eyes inside them). The in-game picture looks vaguely like something straight out of Resident Evil.
  • On the other end of the spectrum, Sergeant Hull Head is a monster that doesn't look all that horrifying until you read his description, or especially his full backstory. Hull Head was a prisoner imprisoned by his enemy Zimnyaya during the World Water War. When Zimnyaya's side was forced to surrender the war, Hull Head's side forgot to rescue him, and with the only person feeding him gone, he ended up starving to death in his prison bunker. Even worse, his corpse was later exposed to radiation from nuclear bombs, and he rose back to life as a zombie. Truly mortifying.
  • Thundeer is a reindeer that got struck by lightning and lived, turning his body transparent and exposing his skeleton, making him look like a terrifying ghost reindeer. He's still extremely kind, however, choosing which gifts go to children on Christmas.
  • Some of the different title screens made for the various events can be rather scary, especially if you aren't expecting them, as they pop up on screen the second you load up the game. Some of the best examples include the second one with Zeighar and Draghar (which was the former page image once), the first one with Wickah and Wildbird, and of course, any that feature the monsters on this page.
  • There was once an absolutely humongous mountain that got split into two entities when a powerful wizard, White Pandalf, needed strong allies during a war. The two monsters that came from this mountain, Ouros and Igursus, are not really too scary on their own (unless you're frightened by monsters the size of mountains, or Igursus' chilling lamprey-like face). The creature they had been sealing away that White Pandalf unintentionally released, however...that's a different story. Meet Cryotan, a gargantuan creature with no eyes, ice spikes covering his head and shoulders, and an extremely destructive attitude. Shall we remind you, by the way, that this thing is the size of a mountain, and it took two to seal him away.
  • H2O Delirious, a monster based on one of the Vanoss crew, is reimagined as a brutal, relentless, delirious assassin who will go as far as to kill his own friends to attain his goals.
  • Reptie. Little is known about these necktie-like serpents, not because they're a rare monster, but rather because none of their victims have survived long enough. We're never told what they do to be this dangerous, especially since it's a support monster.
  • Warmaster Ragnarok is the ultimate monster, and the strongest of them all lore-wise, so his design is very large, bulky, and imposing. Or, at least, it was until his redesign in a 2019 update. Now, rather than levitating normally up and down, his entire body sways from side to side like some sort of worm, made only worse by his thinned-out design, which makes him look less like an intimidating ruler and more like a freakish ocean creature you'd never want to come across. Don't even get us started on his Ragnarok the Beholder skin, either, which puts eyes on his knees and elbows.
  • The Epic monster Zomdalf is a pretty disturbing depiction of a zombie, even compared to the game's other undead monsters. His fur is a sickly green color, a chunk of his beard has been ripped off, and pieces of his flesh have rotted away, revealing his rib cage and organs. His Special skill, They are not dead! (sic), even brings in similarly rotting versions of Commons Fire Lion, Turtle, and Panda to attack the foes.
  • Fatid is a mixture of this and Nausea Fuel. After an innocent Sheluke's home was filled with toxic waste, it eventually mutated into this...thing. If you wish to be able to eat for another week, just...don't click on the link. We won't even describe it here, for the sake of your stomachs.
  • Deceased souls going to Hell, to say the least, will not have a fun time in this universe. Not only is Barbatos just as cruel as one would expect, there's also Soulfagi and Soul Hugger, who eat souls regularly, The Inheritor, who plans to be king after Barbatos and is even more cruel, Pierceid, who is somehow even worse and more powerful than the Inheritor, Saulot, a general with no sense of compassion and his uncontrollable dog Mephisto, the list goes on.
  • Eisul is the leader of a race of powerful ice aliens, and does not have a good look to him. His face makes him look like a zombie with sunken eyes and a permanent grimace, but that doesn't even come close to the tentacled parasite inside his stomach. Which we get to see in all its glory.
  • Muerte Mc Blood used to be a regular human boy. One day, however, Fampira fell in love with him, and eventually even gave him a kiss. By the way, did we mention that Fampira is a vampire, and the daughter of Vlad himself? Yeah, that kiss ended up mutating Muerte into a ghoulish monster with a seriously messed-up face. Slightly Nightmare Retardant, though, when he's revealed to be pretty much innocent, despite his horrid looks.
  • Bit of an underrated, yet old horror. Frostbite is a very scary-looking ice creature with big, bugged-out eyes, an oddly-moving toothy jaw, and an almost zombie-like gait to it. According to its description, it also breathes blizzards, and can instantly freeze you solid with just a sneeze.
  • Yet another in the realm of terrifying designs, Nisael easily takes the cake for having the single most trauma-inducing mug in the game. Do we even need to tell you why?
  • Urtikus. It's a giant humanoid plant monster that was born when a potion Gretchen had made to boost Galante's breeding powers spilled all over her giant rose garden, creating this gigantic, axe-wielding flowery monstrosity.
  • All of the monsters based on the Seven Deadly Sins fit here in some way. They have rather gruesome appearances, usually malicious attitudes, and are all very dangerous.
    • Pigredo, the personification of Sloth and Gluttony, is a fairly tame monster description-wise, but has a horribly grotesque design to it. In case you don't want to use the link, its body is humongous and obese beyond question from doing nothing but sleeping and eating, and its face has sunken-in, pupilless eyes that look almost saddened, combined with a creepy mouth with no teeth that better resembles a random hole in his face.
    • Imagine the angriest you have ever been. Everything that happens making you want to at least throw it hard against a wall, the constant urge to beat the crap out of the direct source of the anger, how it never truly goes away. It feels like hell. Now, imagine that anger, and multiply it by a hundred fold. That's the constant state of Rabies, the personification of Wrath.
    • Vanitus, the personification of Pride, is brothers with Invidia, the personification of Envy. Every time Vanitus ever looks at his brother, he scoffs at how much prettier he is than him, and he magically becomes even more beautiful. The problem; every time this happens, Invidia also becomes uglier. This isn't a problem of perception, either. As of now, Invidia has been reduced to a hunchback with tattered clothes, a mutilated face, and serious self-loathing issues, all because of his brother's pride.
    • Finally, to round them all off, there's Avaritia, the personification of Greed. His body is horrifically twig-like, making him look emancipated, and his single eye shows nothing but constant insanity. Most of the monster is actually made up of a humongous pot of gold he carries on his back, and he refuses on all accounts to allow any of it to go to anyone but himself. The way he moves and acts, too, implies that he was driven completely mad by his greed.
  • Gaidigo is a monstrous demon that once tried to escape Hell by digging up. This didn't go well for him, and he ended up fossilized. When Dr. Viktor found his fossil, he decided to showcase it at a science conference, but accidentally brought Gaidigo back to life thanks to the Mythic Amber decorating the display case. Gaidigo himself looks rather gruesome as well, being based on a Wendigo, and displays the savagery one would expect from a demon, so it's likely the conference didn't go too well.
  • Do you want to see a werewolf girl mid-transformation? No? Well, here you go. Enjoy the nightmares.
  • Another Mythic monster, Yoroi, is based on an in-universe myth about an armadillo that tricks travellers into drinking poison from a jug it holds. In the extended backstory for her, she is described attempting this trick with a samurai known as Kaori. When Kaori declines, Yoroi instead force-feeds it to her. Other than falling unconscious, it remains unknown what happens to Kaori afterwards.
  • Baba Yaga's Portal of Abominations. Only mentioned in the game's lore, the Portal is, appropriately enough, a portal that releases abominations. Currently, only 3 monsters are confirmed to have been released from it, but they're all rather menacing; Jasastur, mentioned above, Kawthor, a mammoth-like beast made of pure hatred, and Moochy, mentioned below.
  • Moochy is yet another monster with a quite...interesting design. His backstory also features him coming from the Portal of Abominations to torment Baba Yaga in Jasastur's stead.
  • Glubu was once a brilliant scientist who researched aliens from outer space. One day, however, he decided to try and research a Sulien, the species of the above-mentioned Eisul. The Sulien ended up outsmarting the doctor, devoured his brain, and replaced it with a new, more alien one, turning the innocent Glubu into a frightening and feral beast.
  • Lonradh, while not that menacing in appearance (though his movement patterns are rather odd), makes up for it tons with his horrific description. He runs a museum for fantastic space creatures, as well as capturing the aliens he puts in it. He does this by killing his victims, taking them to the museum, and resurrecting them once they're imprisoned. Even worse, according to another monster's description, he's not from the planet of the majority of the other monsters, and he's currently taking interest in the natives of their planet.
  • Thunderkong's design isn't particularly scary, but his backstory is a little disturbing. After swallowing a "precious resource" called Stardust inside a Thunder Habitat, an innocent Rockilla transformed into THIS. It's kind of frightening to think that Stardust can turn something like Rockilla into something as eldritch as Thunderkong.
  • If you thought the Cosmic Era was done with horrific designs, get an eyeful of...special creatures such as Shelly, Kraster, Letalis, and Rotten.
  • Execumancer started off as just an ordinary junkyard manager right up until an earthquake caused by Stardust knocks him into a shredding machine. Sure, the Stardust also ends up reviving him into a cyborg, but it's still rather gruesome, even for this game.
  • Social Point has leaked a strange, cryptic video on their Facebook. It's simply a 10-second feed of the Cosmic Portal...but the camera keeps glitching out, and the Portal shifts every time into a menacing green portal with black gunk oozing out. Even after the reveal that this was a hint towards the soon-announced Corrupted Era, it's rather unnerving to watch, especially thanks to the complete silence behind it.
  • It's not just the Cosmic portal and monsters that've been corrupted, either; zoom out on your islands during the Corrupted Era and you'll notice that the gunk is everywhere. Coating the sides of your islands and encroaching on your breeding cave, hatchery, and farms, it's beginning to look like a case of The Assimilator.
  • After the above's release, the entire concept of the Corrupted fits here. That black gunk is called Lutum, and it was released from the center of the Cardinal Forest thanks to the actions of a monster only called the Lord. It powers up monsters similarly to the previous Mythic Amber and Stardust, but this time it also changes the monster's morality, turning them all into a case of Black-and-White Morality. If you're lucky and have little to no evil in your heart, you become Purified, losing all traces of darkness within you...but if there's just enough evil within you to control, the Lutum turns you into a Corrupted, fully consuming you with nothing but that evil. Even worse, some monsters have gotten control of a source called the Corrupted Root and are purposefully turning other monsters into Corrupteds. Some particular examples include:
    • If you thought H2O Delirious was the most frightening of Youtuber-based monsters, just wait till you see what SocialPoint did to Dream.
    • Fayemelina, one of the earliest monsters released, was one of the more notable cases of Cute Monster Girl in the game. After the release of the Corrupted era turned her into Fayemalice, not anymore. She doesn't just have the Face of a Thug, either - she works as the minion of the Lord, and the primary force behind Corruption in Monster Legends.
    • There are original monsters too, of course. For example, one monster that can rival even Krugbo on the pure scare value is this fucking thing. Its name is Rudechaw, and yes, he is as savage as he appears.
    • Wormhole is a monster that is truly horrifying, both in appearance and backstory. It's a parasite that latches onto its victims and kills them little by little. However, after its Corruption, it got the ability to control the corpses of its victims. Even worse, the most recent victim of Wormhole had the ability to change into whatever monster it wanted, resulting in Wormhole taking its corpse. It's literally The Thing in Monster Legends!!
    • Dark-Er is a monster that literally personifies Nightmare Fuel. It's a monster born after a piece of Mythic Amber that was protecting a group of young monsters from nightmares came into contact with Lutum, which results in it having the ability to bring nightmares to life. Even the concept art is disturbing!
    • Mojadrak's backstory is pretty frightening. He was originally a dragon, but he was hit by a massive wave of Lutum and knocked to the bottom of the ocean. There, his wings fell off and were replaced by tentacles. Not to mention the fact that he's now covered in eyes... The horror is mitigated, however, when we find out that he made good friends under the sea and is perfectly happy at the bottom of the sea.
    • Cruelecktrek isn't scary design-wise, but his backstory is completely morbid. Originally created by Ingenica to serve as a sidekick, the Lutum ended up turning him into a Blood Knight who tortured rivals 24/7, then turning to the Bounty Hunt to find more fun in torturing his enemies. Heck, even his allies find him scary, which is saying something considering how full this very page is.
    • Fungheratops, dear mother of God, Fungheratops. He looks like the unholy offspring of Biollante and the Demogorgon, for Uriel's Sake!
    • Blumeria was once a simple daisy who lived with other daisies. However, after she was Corrupted, she was transformed into a monster with utter hatred, and that's not mentioning her Nightmare Face.
    • Burnex is a bug that literally came out of Hell. Not only does it have an unsettling design, but it also can paralyze you with a burning venom. That's not even getting into how it's so small, you won't realize it's there until it's too late...
    • LORD NEBOTUS... The Reveal that the Lord was one of the weakest Legendaries in the game, turned into a power-hungry overlord who destroyed the Cosmic Portal and began the Corrupted Era, and that's not mentioning his design, which transitioned from an evil spirit covered in armor to something of out Diablo or Blood.
    • Monstera is freaky enough in concept. It's a plant that grew in the Cardinal Forest after the Lutum explosion. It might not seem like much until you find out it's been hypnotizing anyone that gets too close with its eyes.
    • Elfriede is a coffin that traps its enemies inside itself, leaving them there for eternity unless someone can Free them, and it was created by Lord Nebotus. Just peachy
    • His pet Waldorf is no slouch in the freaky department with one too many eyeballs. Not only was this creature just a normal snail, but because of him, the Lord realized he could Corrupt other monsters as well.
    • Algata is a seaweed jellyfish monster born during the reconstruction of the swamp. Its design looks horrific, resembling something that H.P. Lovecraft would dream up.
    • Mad-triack is another monster that deserves mentioning. It's an alien bug that distracts its prey using its womb and then transforming them into her offspring. It's also stated to be a total Control Freak. Yikes!
  • With the introduction of the Metropolitan Era,a lot of superheroes and supervillains have been released. However, it comes packing with its own brand of creepy and downright disturbing monsters, such as...
    • While The Frutastor might seem like a hilarious supervillain with a gimmick based around rotten fruits and vegetables, his backstory is downright Nausea Fuel. After being rejected without a chance by Malairion, The Frutastor decided to get his revenge by flooding every pipe, gutter, and window of Malairion's hideout with mounds of rotten produce, complete with flies, ants, and worms.
    • Acheron is a demon from Hell that was originally going to be used by The Inheritor and Kaih the Sunmelter to torture prisoners, however, Barbatos sabotaged the gates, allowing Acheron to escape to another galaxy.
    • Gahy Zuhl is a demon who was sentenced to Hell for unspeakable crimes. Not only is she punished by being sentenced to Hell, but she is also cursed to bear great pain inflicted by a fire burning her, causing others to fly into states of rage.
    • The Metropolitan form of the Baroness, known as The BaroneX, has changed from Humanoid Abomination to full-on mutant. Most of her body is made up of machinery and her face is now made up of the skull she wore as a headdress as if the Nebula mutated her into something worse.
    • Aloe Death is a resident of the wasteland resembling a combination of an Aloe Vera and a cactus that contains a Lamprey Mouth, an eye on its chest, and spikes covering its body. It gets even worse when you read his description and find out he smuggled himself into Monstown via delivery of iron beams, allowing this mutant to be on the loose.
    • Fossarius is an alien who crashed his flying saucer in the Post Apocalyptic Wasteland. Knowing that the residents would be less than helpful, he salvaged his ship and managed to fashion weapons and armor from the scrap, not helped by the fact that his lungs adapted to the wasteland and mutated him
    • The nastiest example of the Metropolitan Era's body horror comes in the form of Thermagorn, the leader of a termite colony and he does not have a good look to him, and by the way, this thing is supposed to be a termite.
    • Dork is an orc who was killed for his betrayal and brought back with a disturbing appearance, including a torso that contains exposed flesh and entrails wrapped around his leg, and an eye on his chest. Bleh.
    • Maremotus, dear mother of Elvira and her angel friends, Maremotus. This giant zombie sponge was created after Don Canine irresponsibly disposed of toxic waste into the water, and it can be best described as the unholy spawn of a Galarian Corsola and Koralle Brutalis.
  • After the release of the new age, the entire story, and concept of the Doomsday Era full stop. Long story short, after the previous ruler of Hell, was overthrown, the new ruler decided to power up via the use of a substance known as Ambrosia. The only problem is, the Ambrosia was part of a peace treaty between angels and demons, and in doing so, breaks the treaty submerging Petra into a full-on war between Heaven and Hell. The monsters it produces, however, are definitely on the nightmarish side.
    • Let's start with the monster who started this whole mess, Lord Inheritor. This demon went from co-ruler of the Underworld to dictator of the Underworld, all because his ego got hurt. this gets even worse when he kicked all the angels out of Paradise.
    • When a Doomed version of the nemesis Xiron was revealed, a majority of the player base were horrified as this version, Xiron the Great, suffered from a case of Uncanny Valley with gold outlining its eyes and mouth and silver hair
    • The tales monster Plantomination definitely falls into the creepy factor, being a plant monster that develops more head when it gets bigger, which causes it to get hungry, eat and grow bigger, creating a never-ending cycle for the monster
    • X-Mess is a monster that resembles something out of The Nightmare Before Christmas, resembling a yellow Christmas present with razor-sharp teeth, and a roundworm like creature with a Lamprey Mouth and multiple eyes.
    • Snowgross was once known as Freeza, a mean snowman who picked on smaller monsters. This continued until he made a bad move and picked on a group of Barbarians. The Barbarians mutilated Freeza, jamming carrots into his eye sockets and giving him a second head.
    • Raris was a monster trapped in a space void and mutated into an abomination. It's now made up of a thin, chalky white body, a mouth full of glowing teeth, and a head composed of eyeballs. Even worse, it gained powers including seeing the past and future, as well as memory manipulation.
  • With the introduction of Era Sagas to the Corrupted Era, allowing for full plots to be further developed, it's doubtless that there'll be some freaky stuff in them, especially thanks to the Era they're based around.
    • Near the end of King Charmless' Saga, right after Charmless has been defending the Light palace from a Corrupted army, he's told by one of the bodyguards that the king, Daeron, has summoned him to the throne room. Something is obviously up at this point, because just a few cutscenes earlier another bodyguard, Hammergrom, had escorted Daeron to a shelter. Nevertheless, Charmless follows orders and heads up to the throne room, where Daeron is indeed waiting, and is immediately demanded to give Daeron a relic he'd hidden at the start of the Saga; in fact, he won't say anything except for "Bring me the relic." While this does lead into a brief funny moment, this is also where it's completely clear what's up; this isn't King Daeron, but instead the Corrupted Wormhole trying to get the relic for his Lord. Talk about Paranoia Fuel.
    • At the end of Anwrikah's Saga, an exchange goes down between Anwrikah and The Lord. Although it might not seem like Nightmare Fuel, the final image is. It's a sword with an eyeball on it covered with Lutum, and the Lord announcing "My time has come." Even worse, it confirms many theories about who the Lord is. That's right, The Lord is none other than Nebotus, originally considered one of the weakest Legendaries, now a nearly unstoppable overlord!
  • Slimok's design is very disturbing. It used to be a bug in the Cardinal Forest, but it got sucked into the Portal of Abominations. Instead of dying, it turned into THIS.
  • Shiveerie Is another horrific Blossom era monster, having an emancipated look, a sharp maw that may be covered in skin, and eyes in extremely unsettling positions.
  • Firefool is an ex jester for Barbatos Rex until he was kicked out, and was considering an extremely disturbing design due to the wild eyes, and an disturbingly large underbite which takes up a significant portion of his face.
  • The Galactic Era storyline, full stop. Long story short, Captain Copperbeard managed to discover a new resource in a mine known as Astronite, which acts like every other resource. However, while trying to get away from Commander Morgan, the crew of the Curse of the Cosmos ends up entering the Void of Abominations and accidentally dumps the entire shipment of Astronite into the Void of Abominations, in turn powering up all the Eldritch Abominations in the Void and allowing them to escape and invade other worlds. Even worse are some of the monsters that were spawned for this Era...
    • Ravenbot might not be disturbing design wise, but lore wise, it is a nightmare. Apparently the scientists at Global Mech Ltd. decided it was a good idea to create another robot like Parrotbot but with unstable parts. The end result? The robot went rogue, murdered all the scientists who built it, and escaped.
    • Calamitabyss was a sea creature who was experimented on by Dr. Wattz and released into the sea by the Dr. who thought there would be no consequences. However, the beast grew up to terrorize the seas, and even worse, has a sixth sense created by Dr. Wattz's experimentations.
    • Would it surprise you that Social Point managed to make ice cream terrifying? Meet Georgelato! An ice cream monster with half of his own brain exposed and a tendency to give everyone around him brain freezes
    • Clawgore, the main attraction of the Galactic Era is a tall, dark purple eldritch abomination with two mouths, one on its lower half, and one on its head, and two large blade-like appendages. Oh and not only is this thing is the entity leading the Abominations of their invasion, it's also portrayed as massive in size.
    • Gafuhlz is a large mosquito abomination covered in translucent green and pink skin, and an apparent collection of eyes all around its body
    • Quite possibly the most disturbing monster ever released in a game, Psykaos is an eldritch abomination made up of a pink blob including an exposed brain, multiple deformed limbs, 3 sharp toothed mouths and 5 green eyeballs all clustered together. Even worse, the lore outright states that it brainwashed an entire civilization into worshiping it, then made them tear each other apart for its own sick satisfaction.
    • Social Point already managed to make ice cream terrifying once, and now they've done it again with Fropsi, a large fudge pop with bloodshot eyes, one of them drooping out of its sockets and popsicle sticks stabbed all over him. Even worse, he was created from the aforementioned Georgelato. Great!
    • Aderlass is a plant abomination that was unleashed when Ra'Zhul Doom accidentally opened a portal full of abominations on Petra and got a seed from the portal stuck to his cloak. The beast itself has a circular mouth of sharp teeth, a whole bunch of tentacles and an open mouth on it's head that's constantly breathing gas.
    • Khrilz is a species of Abomination resembling an insectoid mass of flesh and chitin. It's able to reproduce and kill at lightning fast speeds. Just a reminder, this isn't one single monster. It's a whole species of them!
    • Uksagon is an Abomination composed of roots with an massive orange tumor like growth on its back. If that's not scary enough, then it's lore definitely is. It's a living torture device, able to burn the air around it and leave others gasping for air, and breathing apparatuses aren't going to help.
    • Great Cthulhu, dear mother of Barbatos, Great Cthulhu. Who knew a kids game could make Cthulhu even more terrifying than he already is? For those who didn't click the link, Great Cthulhu now has large spiked growths on its arms, a cluster of red eyes, and a mouthful of teeth with tentacles sticking out.
