Needs More Love / Fan Works

Go To

  • Mutant needs more love.
  • A Twisted Tale. A pretty decent Harry Potter-Twilight crossover. There was a small period of about three chapters where the author got skimpy, but got longer. Really needs more love.
  • A Hole in the Sky, a Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann story. It's cute, sad, heartwarming, and above all What Could Have Been.
  • A World Without Rainbows. It's a very compelling Alternate Universe My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fanfiction. The story explores the importance of Rainbow Dash's first Sonic Rainboom. Good development, memorable scenes, and a good joke every now and again make this a winner.
  • Calvin & Hobbes: The Series starts out pretty bad, but slowly gets better until by the third season it's one of the most Medium Aware things I've ever read.
  • The Elements of Harmony and the Savior of Worlds. A merging of My Little Pony and My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, setting the former as the latter's past.
  • The Facing the Future Series - a series of stories that fit the tone of Danny Phantom so well, it could be a continuation of the very cartoon.
  • Fantasy of Utter Ridiculousness: a crossover between Touhou Project and Megas XLR, it's a rather short fic with about 28k words in seven chapters, counting the Alternate Ending, but it captures very well the essence of both series. Imagine for a moment Coop in Gensokyo and then Megas fighting a giant Suika. And the credits are made in the spirit of Megas XLR!
  • Horseshoes and Hand Grenades is a darker retelling of Fourze that brings in multiple Kamen Rider characters from prior series, but also uses characters from the show itself that also get involved in the madness. It also has multiple stories that expand more on Gentaro's past and his struggle in being evil and tells of how the world starts to fall apart over a single incident.
  • An increasing amount of reviewers think that Hunting the Unicorn (a deconstructive Glee fic influenced by The Last Unicorn) needs more love. Despite the writing style and interesting portrayal of Blaine, Hunting the Unicorn has much less reviews than most fics of similar length.
  • The Beetlejuice fanfic Life Won't Wait. It's brilliantly written and fits incredibly well with the cartoon universe. But since so many fans ship Beetlejuice and Lydia romantically, the story is ignored for strictly keeping their relationship that of a close friendship.
  • The Powerpuff Girls fanfiction More Than Human is a very good fan fic. It's smart, gripping, and there are a lot of action scenes considering how it's supposed to be a High School AU.
  • My Little Megas XLR. A perfect blend of Megas XLR and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. It even has the omnipotent button.
  • The New Look Series created by ShinnokRaiden99. While some of the stories are less than great like Naruto's New Look (which even the author didn't like), the other stories are great with well-conceived characterizations, a healthy amount of mythology gags, and the stories never get real dirty like a fair chunk of crossdressing stories. But despite that the series isn't as well known compared to other fanfic series.
  • The Pokémon fanfic No Antidote: One of the best fanfics I have ever read. It's definitely miles above anything that has come out of the official canon story wise.
  • Oblivion (Gabriel Seraph): An in-progress multi-part Kingdom Hearts AU fic taking the members of Organization XIII and putting them into the real world, in a fictional Northern California suburb (implied to be in the Bay Area.) The story focuses on Tim Nemo (Demyx in all but name), whose father Ansem is trying to activate something called the "In-Between" in a secret underground lab. It's also very Troperiffic and very fun to read (with each "episode" divided into nine chapters, and a great deal of cliffhanger endings between chapters and episodes), not to mention much better than one would expect for FanFiction.Net - and yet it's only gotten two reviews so far. Four episodes have been completed ("The New Kid," "Both Sides of the Story," "Everybody Hates Windmills," and "Frozen Pride"), with a fifth story, "Shake, Rattle, and Roll Over the Edge," having two chapters completed.
  • Pipeline is a cool FusionFall fic, because it takes the Darker and Edgier aspect of the game and analyzes the results of throwing kids into a war. The resulting fic is a very good analysis told through Kevin's eyes, which is why it isn't very well known in the fandom. Dexter and Ben are the big time favorites, and while they are directly involved with the plot, Ben's only in it here and there and Dexter only has one scene. Kevin's not a very popular character because he's often been portrayed negatively (at least next to Dexter and Ben.) The fic doesn't try to glorify him or defend him, but show that his faults are what they are and that he's a good person fighting on the good side any way— even if he likes things his way.
  • Polarity: A different take on Spider-Man B-villain the Shocker, aka Herman Schultz, and his attempts to survive during a zombie apocalypse. Overshadowed by The Shocker: Legit, this story (and its sequel "Transistor") is well-written, focuses on the bad guys in the Marvel Universe, and does it all without handing anyone the Idiot Ball.
  • Rick and The Loud House is perhaps one of the best crossover stories out there. While a crossover between Rick and Morty and The Loud House definitely sounds weird on paper, the author manages to make it work by blending together elements from both show while taking some creative liberties without too much deviation. The story also tries to fix some of the more controversial aspects from both shows, such as exploring Lincoln's low self-esteem and better addressing the consequences of a lot of Rick's more amoral actions. Definitely a good read if you enjoy both shows and feel certain aspects from each are too underutilized.
  • The Sacrifices Arc an alternate universe of Harry Potter which presents different rules of magic, a powerful Harry, focus on minor characters of the series and try to show the point of view of anyone. Present on the internet but not detailed often.
  • Son Of Apophis. Quite possible better than most published stories—with the exception of the very first chapter. Not very well known at all.
  • The Story Of The Lost Courier is a great Crossover between Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
  • Sunshine and Fire: a fanfiction of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic and one of the best 'darker' stories out of the world while retaining all the charm and enjoyable nature.
  • White Rain is one of the better Naruto post-series stories out there. It starts on the opposite end of their world, a woman and her children making the journey to Konoha... and things happen.
  • Chain123's fanfic The Wolf Within is a great Sonic the Hedgehog fanfic that is unacceptably underrated for its quality. It's about Tails, the last survivor amongst the Freedom Fighters after Robotnik's latest attack, trying to change the future by traveling to the past in order to stop Robotnik before he kills all the Freedom Fighters. On his trip back to the past, he becomes a member of Lupe's wolf pack and from there the story goes on. This fanfic defently deserves more than it got; that it only has 60 reviews is just unacceptable as it deserves atleast 150 reviews. You can find more on why it's good on the fanfiction reviews on the "Fanfic Recs" section of Sonic the Hedgehog page but give it a try and read it.
  • The criminally unnoticed The Calvin, Hobbes, and Paine Show. It's a piece of metafiction about a world where Calvin and Hobbes was actually a television show, and after Watterson left it was retooled into a Variety Show and changed a lot — for the worse, Calvin thinks. The story centers on Calvin, now a jaded actor, thinking back on how the show came to be this way and wondering where Watterson went off to. The writing, while heavy on the cynicism, still retains a bit of hope, and the descriptions are wonderfully written.
  • The Great Disney Adventure Saga. This fic has a great leading character, fun interactions with the disney canon, Pirates of the Caribbean as a center stage, Pixar, and it doesn't follow canon unless directed to. While technically something of a self-insert fic, it's still funny, heartfelt, and sometimes even genuinely surprising. Please, enjoy, even as it continues to unfold.
  • Heart and Eye, which is about Xander going to work for Wolfram and Hart after the events of Season 7note . Currently has 73 chapters, started up almost a year ago, and needs a boost in its TV Tropes page. Very good.
  • The fanfics of Platinum Dragoness. They happen to be some of the best fics I have ever read, and several have the most interesting concepts (for example, Sailor Pluto repeatedly trying and failing to prevent the downfall of the Silver Millennium, or Motoki becoming a Sailor Senshi - there's no Gender Bender or Dragged into Drag, he's a girl who was Raised as the Opposite Gender). The only complaint I have is that many of the stories are only Drabble length, and the ideas are never expanded upon. However, don't let that put you off enjoying them!
  • The fanfiction of Erin T. Aardvark. She's an expert at taking cartoons like The Raccoons and The Impossibles and making wonderful stories out of them, as well as (in the case of the Impossibles) giving the characters backstories that never appeared in the original cartoon. Be warned, though, some of the things she writes are MUCH Darker and Edgier than the original.
  • Finding Dad is one of the few fanfics that does first-person POV well, and in a Shipping fic no less. The romance between Phineas and Isabella is not only sweet, but well-written.
  • Tokimeki PokéLive! and TwinBee, a fun yet unique crossover that is also faithful to the respective Canons of the franchises involved! Hilda being a School Idol and Perfect Dream Project member while still being a Pokémon Trainer and Shizuku being a Pokémon Trainer while still being a School Idol who's also interested in Theatre and Shiori and Pastel are main characters alongside Hilda and Shizuku, need I say more?
  • kpts4tv's version of Death Note Abridged has high production values, constantly improving writing, and good fan interaction from contests, responses to comments, and more. It's also got the least love in the tropes page, very few subscribers, and almost no buzz anywhere on the net, probably because the first few episodes are admittedly pretty bad. They got better, though, just look at their most recent episode
  • Code MENT: Absolutely ridiculous plots, glorious amounts of ham, and above-par voice-work. Anyone who likes internet parodies absolutely needs to give this a try.
  • Super Smash Bros. Brawl: Dubspace Emissary. One of the most hilarious abridged series' out there. You won't regret it. Special mention goes to episodes 1, 3, 9, 13, and 17.
  • Final Fantasy VII The Abridged Series by Cloudstrife8. The humor is well done, the editing is decent and gets better as it progresses, and the characters are given hilarious quirks that would make them memorable. Here is the first episode.
  • Pokémon The 'Bridged Series does not get NEARLY as much attention as it should. It's funny, irreverent, and made by really talented Youtubers.
  • RWBY: The Abridged Series is great from the start. It has funny jokes, a good alternate take on the characters and fantastic voice acting. The only real criticism for the show is that Roman’s voice actor had a microphone that made him sound a little off in the first episode, which has been fixed in episode two onward. It was really popular at first, going by the YouTube viewing system, but it's lost a lot of viewers, presumably due to the long episode time making process, the parody being on the obscure side and not that many episodes of this writing. But it’s a great parody overall and definitely worth checking out.
  • Little Secrets is incredibly underrated. It's one of my top 10 fanfics ever, and the only one that I haven't learned about from this site. If you've ever wanted to wonder what Superman Returns would be like if it were directed by Richard Donner, starred the cast of the original films, and featured the addition of Jason having a twin sister. There are also several sequels and side stories.
  • Fate/Stay Night: Ultimate Master. Basically, The Plumbers discover the murders and "gas leaks" that occurred during the Great Fuyuki Fire. Suspicious, they send Ben to Fuyuki to find out what's really going on and Ben ends up fighting Lancer. During the fight, Ben ends up gaining a servant of his own named Avenger who's all but stated to be Joan of Arc due to the mana he has within him and someone manipulating the rules of the Holy Grail War to allow an eighth servant to be summoned. There's tons of great character interaction such as Ben and Illya (as it turns out, a lot of people know who Ben is, despite him being sent due to being less well known over there) and eventually, Ben and Shirou. There's a couple of stumbles such as in the first chapter, but a ton of Shown Their Work as well (Ben having mana within him, which was mentioned in one episode of Alien Force and transforming into his ultimate forms by twisting and slapping his Ultimatrix symbol which occurred in Ultimate Cannonbolt's first appearance in the show). Unfortunately, the fic died on October 11, 2013 which is sad because we'll never find out things like what would occur if Ben and Shirou finally teamed up as well as what Gwen, Kevin, Grandpa Max and Julie would say when Ben came home with Avenger with him. Most importantly, we'll never find out who manipulated the rules to allow Avenger to be summoned in the first place (though given the whole Personality Power thing, Joan of Arc was summoned due to being incredibly selfless in life. Perfect for the kid with Chronic Hero Syndrome).
