Desolo Zantas, formerly known as DesoloZ is a musician who got his start from making remixes of various Sonic the Hedgehog songs on Youtube before gradually branching out into making remixes from other franchises such as Kirby and creating original tracks. He has a presence on Youtube, Bandcamp, Soundcloud and Newgrounds, where he posts his music. In addition to creating remixes and original songs, he's also created an overarching story called Omniversia.

Omniversia's story is spread out in the descriptions of various songs, and is a Lovecraft Lite story that involves Elmerninis's goal of reshaping the Omniverse, feeling that though its creator left a mark, they have also abandoned the universes they created and left them to their fate. Kirby's part of the story begins at the end of one of his adventures, during his battle with Zero 3. After defeating both of it's forms, Zero 3 receives Divine Intervention from a mysterious being known as Elmerninis, with Kirby receiving help from Gabriel in return.

Several months after the fall of Zero 3, on one fateful day, Kirby's universe suffers a Time Crash, with Kirby himself finding out that a strange dark being named Elmerninis had invaded Kirby's universe with full intent to take it over. After a Curbstomp Battle in the invader's favour, Kirby is trapped in Limbo -an inescapable multidimensional labyrinth- and forced to do battle with powerful creatures known as Endemies, powerful foes with apocalyptic power that represent various possibilities in the Kirby universe. Kirby must fight his way out and eventually defeat Elmerninis if he intends to return his universe to normal.

Though Desolo Zantas works solo, he does occasionally do collaborations with other artists, notably forming a small team called Cosmotif consisting of himself, LightMetaS, THNGameRemixes and several others.

Discography

Examples of tropes seen in Desolo Zanta's works:

  • After the End: The description of Long Ago implies that Elmerninis, Gabriel and Luna once lived on Shiver Star, a planet that is commonly believed to be a post-apocalyptic Earth.
  • Bilingual Bonus: Post takeover of Kirby's universe, the intros to a few plot related videos note  have messages in the description by Elmerninis which reveal information about the plot. Fortunately, if you can't understand them, the amount of helpful Youtube comments are thankfully in no short supply.
  • Black Holes: Zero 3's first form is based off a giant black hole, having sucked up the entire universe into itself to create an anti-universe which it rules over.
  • Dark Is Evil: Most of the Endemies that Kirby fights tend to have some sort of association with Dark Matter, with one of them being a corrupted version of Kirby. Elmerninis himself makes use of Exa Darkmatter during battle, and takes on the appearance of a shadowy humanoid during his time in Kirby's universe.
  • Divine Intervention: Elmerninis grants Zero 3 their power, transforming them into Zero Soul. Gabriel, another being of godlike intervenes to grant Kirby his own power in order to counter Elmerninis's machinations.
  • Drum and Bass: Several tracks such as The Contra Void or his Sonic Advance remixes make use of this.
  • Evil Sounds Deep: Elmerninis has a deep, distorted laughter that plays during Subcontra (though it's absent from the non-Youtube uploads), likely to represent how one sided his first fight with Kirby is.
  • Evil vs. Evil: Elmerninis's reasons for conquering various galaxies is that he's trying to stop Ba'al, an Eldritch Abomination who likely represents the chaos inherent in the universe.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: The final track of Divine Castle Elmerninis/Outro is the earliest mention of Elmerninis long before his actual debut into the Omniversia story, and part of it is later used as Elmerninis's Leitmotif in general.
  • Eldritch Abomination: The Endemies that Kirby fights serve as this. Siamo Zero is a corrupted Kirby whose inner darkness turned into a new version of Zero, HyperMetaMorpho is a corrupted Meta Knight whose bloodlust has consumed his soul, Nodus Tollens is Zero having fused himself to a Clockwork Star upon wishing for it's power, and Void Elfilis is a version of Chaos Elfilis whose soul has absorbed dark power, altering their form to be closer to that of Void.
  • Fallen Hero: Siamo Zero is a version of Kirby whose heart gradually darkened until he become a monster similar to Zero Two and HyperMetaMorpho is a fusion between Meta Knight, Morpho Knight and Dark Matter Blade who rampaged across the galaxy, having destroyed several planets in the process.
  • Fanfic: Several tracks note  are used as a backdrop for a Kirby fanfiction called Omniversia that starts with the end of a previous journey where Kirby fights Zero 3. After Zero 3 is defeated, Elmerninis intervenes and when Kirby defeats Zero Soul, Elmerninis decides to take over Kirby's universe and succeeds, trapping Kirby in Limbo and forcing him to fight several Endemies.
  • Five-Second Foreshadowing: Right before AntiNihility begins proper, the usual intro for Desolo Zanta's Youtube videos glitches out, implying that Elmerninis's influence reaches as far as the video itself.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • During Soul Tesseract, part of the song is Elmernini's leitmotif, implying that Zero 3's transformation into Zero Soul wasn't his own doing.
    • Before AntiNihility was released, the previous two tracks were arrangements of Hyper Zone 1 and Hyper Zone 2, foreshadowing Elemerninis's appearance proper, having up until this point only being mentioned in the description for Soul Tesseract and appears in ~Sancte Trinitatis~. It also foreshadows that Elmerninis's form in the Kirby universe is also made up of Dark Matter, though it functions differently to the Dark Matter seen in the Kirby games.
  • Genius Bruiser: Elmerninis is depicted as a muscular shadowy man during AntiNihility and Beyond Light | Elmerninis ~Prime Days~ who is rather intelligent due to his knowledge of the Omniverse.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: The Youtube description for Ba'al's theme states that while Elmerninis is believed to the main villain, Ba'al plays a more pivotal role in the story.
  • "Groundhog Day" Loop: It's implied that Nodus Tollens can trap their opponent in one of these. The video shows it breaking down and the fight starting over, implying that trying to destroy it through attacking it causes the time loop to continue. Additionally, each time the video starts, the time loop starts again.
  • Hidden Track: Undertalia has W.D. Gaster - ¿¿¿ which is intended to be a bonus track befitting of Gaster's nature of referencing cut content in video games.
  • Humans Are Cthulhu: Elmerninis is a HueMan from a different universe, and considering that the Kirby universe is devoid of humans (aside from the possible implications of Shiver Star), Elmerninis stands out completely with his unique powerset making him an Outside-Context Problem that wipes the floor with Kirby during their first fight.
  • Hopeless Boss Fight: Elmerninis's second phase has Kirby forced to survive against his attacks, with Elemerninis taking over Kirby's universe within 3 minutes.
  • Interface Spoiler: The Youtube upload of Fecto Elfilis Medley makes it rather blatant that the song isn't actually over after Chaos Elfilis and that an entire extra section exists for Void Elfilis.
  • Leitmotif: Elmerninis's leitmotif originates from Divine Castle, which is used for his appearances during Soul Tesseract, ~Sancte Trinitatis~, Antinihility and Elemerninis ~Prime Days~.
  • Omniglot: Post takeover of Kirby's universe, the intros to a few plot related videos note  have Elmerninis speak in multiple languages, with some of his messages being mixed languages.
  • Painting the Medium:
    • Unlike the other Undertalia tracks uploaded to Youtube, W.D Gaster's theme is hidden with the link being hidden at the end of Chara's theme. However due to Youtube removing annotations, Gaster's theme can only be listened to on Desolo Zantas's other platforms.
    • During Soul Tesseract, the description renders Elmerninis and Gabriel's names in a different font to represent their otherworldy nature compared to both Kirby and Zero.
    • During the first two Elmerninis battle themes AntiNihility and Subcontra, Elmerninis's attack names are written in strikethrough text, implying that Elmerninis is trying to prevent the viewer from reading the names of his attacks. During the latter song, the description briefly uses Unconvential Formatting anf glitchy text to describe the universe breaking down.
  • Puzzle Boss: Unlike Siamo Zero and HyperMetaMorpho, Nodus Tollens cannot be defeated by brute force. Destroying them or watching the video simply causes the fight to start over. It turns out that ignoring it (i.e refusing to perceive it's existence) is what allows Kirby to defeat it and move on to the next opponent.
  • Read the Freaking Manual: While Desolo Zantas is a music artist, if you want to understand anything that goes on in Omniversia, you will need to read the descriptions of some of the songsnote  related to it's plot.
  • Sequential Boss:
    • The first bout with Elmerninis consists of two phases in which Kirby can only survive due to Elmerninis being far more powerful than Kirby at that point in the story.
    • The Fecto Elfilis Medley consists of sections for Fecto Elfilis, then both forms of Chaos Elfilis. After Chaos Elfilis's core form is defeated, Elmerninis recreates him as Void Elfilis and sets them loose on Kirby. Void Elfilis has two forms of it's own, with a theme for both phases.
  • Story Breadcrumbs: The overall story of Omniversia is scattered throughout some of the various tracks uploaded to Desolo's Youtube, Soundcloud and Newgrounds accounts, with some of these tracks being exclusive to each platform.
  • The Bad Guy Wins: Elmerninis defeats Kirby, Void and Zero after fully merging himself into the universe, and traps Kirby in Limbo.
  • The Chosen People: Elmerninis, Gabriel and Luna are the three members of the Holy Trinity of Light, representing Power, Knowledge and Wisdom respectively. Elmerninis theorizes that Kirby, Zero and Void are the balancing entities of their universe.
  • The Maze: Limbo is a multi-dimensional maze created by Elmerninis, and is where Kirby ends up after Elmerninis takes over his universe. Kirby is then pitted against various Endemies, testing Kirby's capabilities for a currently unknown purpose.
  • Time Crash: After trying to deal with the black artifact, time breaks apart, with King Dedede being the first character noted to be frozen in time. This also means that Zero and Void end up returning despite their deaths in their game of origin. This is revealed to be a side effect of Elmernini's improper integration into Kirby's universe.
  • Uncommon Time: AntiNihility is a chaotic song that stops and starts, often changing time signature to fit the absolute chaos of Kirby, Zero and Void facing off against Elmernini's fractured form. Nodus Tollens also makes use of this, befitting of it's state as a chaotic fusion of Zero and a Clockwork Star.
  • Updated Re-release: Several of Desolo Zanta's old tracks tend to get updated versions every now and again. Notably, The Grand Sunset and The Contra Void were given -Amelioration- versions which updated the art and overall sound with improved instrumentation; the latter track tones down the Drum and Bass part of the track in favour of adding jazz elements instead. The two tracks and Soul Tesseract were remastered, with The Contra Void and Soul Tesseract now having animated cutscenes resembling a 3D Kirby game.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: Elmerninis has shades of this, due to his belief that the creator of the universe abandoned its creation and left it's denizens in needless pain and suffering. To this end, he's been taking over galaxies, having invaded the Kirby universe, likely to find heroes strong enough to take on Ba'al.
  • Wham Episode: Beyond Light | Elmerninis ~Prime Days~ is a prequel to the Elmerninis Arc that completely changes how the viewer perceives Elmernini's character. Up until this point, Elmerninis is known as a dark being who invades Kirby's world, inflicts a Curbstomp Battle on him and traps him in a multidimensional maze and forces him to fight several Endemies simply to torment Kirby for his own amusement. The visuals reveal that Elmerninis is a handsome, well built muscular man covered in shadows whose goals are to take the universes its creators abandoned and guide them to an orderly future, intending to become the god of the Omniverse to create a more structured, orderly world free of the needless pain, suffering and misery that is part of the current universal order. The description implies that he considers Kirby similar to himself, and intends to test his potential, having targeted his universe for this goal.
