Crossovers
  • Dungeon Keeper Ami: Ami and Tiger express their shared memories by having the same gestures:
"Hmm, they kind of do look like sisters when they stand next to each other like that," Sailor Moon said when the ensuing silence threatened to turn awkward.
This prompted Ami and Tiger to look at each other. Sure enough, they both stood with their backs straight and their hands in front of themselves, fidgeting slightly.
  • Infinity Train: Blossoming Trail: Chloe Cerise to three Infinity Train characters.
    • Tulip Olsen: Both of them are Fiery Redheads who run away from home for different reasons — Chloe because she doesn't want to be in a city where no one cares for her and everyone expects her to like Pokémon and Tulip runs away to Coding Camp when her parents can't take her (and to get far away from the fact her parents are divorced) — and their family lives are the opposite. Chloe has a good relationship with her mom and little brother but is closed off from her dad, while Tulip has problems with both her parents due to the divorce. They both blame someone else for their problems — Tulip blamed her parents for the divorce, Chloe blames Ash and Goh for her horrible friendship problems (even though Goh points out that Chloe refused every offer to join them) and her father for being absolutely ignorant of her troubles.
      • Tulip has an efficiency for coding and gaming while Chloe is a reader and is skilled in writing macabre stories. Tulip has one good friend in Mikayla while Chloe's Childhood Friend Goh is distant and doesn't really notice her in favor of Pokémon. Tulip was embarrassed in having to sing (since she found the song she had to sing "embarrassing"), whereas Chloe gains the courage to sing and quote lyrics and literary passages without hesitation. Tuip only used the donut holer against the Conductor (and only bought it in exchange for Randall helping her retrieve One-One), whereas Chloe is gifted her donut holer, names it and uses it as her go-to weapon.
      • Also, Chloe was 10 when she entered the train with '151' as her starting number while Tulip was 13 with '115'. Tulip is an only child, while Chloe has a little brother. Tulip constantly questioned the Train's logic, Chloe goes along with it. Last, Tulip is Famed In-Story by Atticus who helped end Amelia's reign, while Chloe is a newcomer on the Train itself and later tasked by One-One to end The Apex.
      • Tulip was analytical and usually wrote notes about the Train as a means of keeping her alive, while Chloe sees the Train as a journey and keeps a diary of her experiences with each car. Tulip was initially afraid of her number going down — because One-One stated she'd be "gone forever", which she mistook for dying — while Chloe is indifferent about it (since she arrived after One-One became Conductor again) mostly because since she knows that she'll leave if it drops to 0, it means that she'll have to go back home to face her crappy hometown.
    • Jesse Cosay: He's a 14-year-old swimmer, Chloe is a 10-year-old writer. His flaw was being indecisive and a doormat in regards to being pushed around by his "friends" while Chloe's main flaw is also being pushed around by her classmates and peers and feeling inadequate to her friend and family. Jesse was into sports, whereas Chloe feels ignored in the subject (except for softball, which is her favorite). His starting number was 31; Chloe's was five times larger. He liked to nickname animals he came across with "Dracula", while Chloe names anything she uses as weapons (her softball bat at home, her donut holer and umbrella. Both of them have little brothers who idolize them, but Nate was injured because of Jesse's passivity while Parker only got injured because of his attempts to protect his sister. Jesse was happy to sing along without a care, while it took some time for Chloe to feel comfortable again.
    • MT:
      • She was a reflection of Tulip and had to do everything Tulip did much to her annoyance, while Chloe is essentially looked at as the successor to her father's research. MT wanted to leave the train, Chloe wants to stay on it. The new look she gives herself is a black sleeveless top and completely shaving all her hair in order to make her harder to find by the Mirror Cops, while Chloe gains a white flowing dress and lets her hair down to symbolize the freedom of being herself. MT was being pursued by the Mirror Cops who wanted to essentially kill her, Chloe isn't being chased by anyone on the Train, but back in her hometown, her friends and family are wondering where the heck she's gone.
      • MT was bullied and looked down because she wasn't a human, Chloe was mocked because of her interests and that she wasn't into Pokémon or following in her father's footsteps. They were also called insulting names: MT was called "Sliver" by the Mirror Cops and "Null" by Simon while Chloe is monikered "Klutzy Chloe" and "Monster Lover" by her classmates. Both of them also have different temperaments: MT has a Hair-Trigger Temper while Chloe is known to be a slow burn until she hits her Rage Breaking Point.
      • They also had a moment where they attacked one of their assailants and were covered in blood: MT ground Mace into one of the Train wheels, while Chloe beat her bully with a paint can with red paint drenching head to toe.
  • Nightmare in Arkham (Batman, A Nightmare on Elm Street ): Having been victimized by Freddy Krueger in the past, Alice shares the connection of loss with Batman, who also tragically saw the death of the ones closest to him. In the beginning, however, Alice actually sides more so with the people considered "villains" in this story, mostly because she almost went down the same path and could have possibly become one of them. At the same time, being among them allowed her to see a more human side to them, and she connects with all of them because they too have experienced pain, loss, betrayal, etc. What sets Alice apart from them is that she is actually able to see them, as well as see herself, as all victims of the world. Batman has also come to this conclusion, but his method of approach initially comes off as extremely hypocritical to Alice because he seems just as insane as the rest of them and yet he seems to view himself as more noble. In these ways, Alice and Batman are both in the same mind and the opposite mind.
  • Paradoxus: Discussed in the fourth chapter. During one of their snarky spars, Sylvanas reveals her backstory to Bloom, who immediately picks on the similarities with her sister's own tragedy. Both Queen Daphne and the Banshee Queen have had their beloved homelands destroyed and been cruelly killed in battle by insane, evil seconds in command of greater-scope villains, who then raised them as bodiless spirits. On her part, Sylvanas feels an instant kinship for this stranger and resolves to meet Daphne someday. This not only opens paths for a friendship but also highlights how Queen Daphne is as prone as Lady Sylvanas to take extremist, drastic measures for problem-solving—something mentioned in the nymph's musings in the third chapter.
  • Voyages of the Wild Sea Horse: Nabiki Tendo notes in-universe that she's starting to act a lot more like her little sister Akane since she was forced to travel the Grand Line and actually fight for her life instead of being able to sit on the sidelines and make snarky comments about the madness surrounding her. She loses her temper more than she ever did in Nerima, and even gets physically violent, something almost unthinkable to Nabiki in canonnote .

The Amazing World of Gumball

  • Kedabory's Elmore Chronicles: Sybil Small's niece Sophie moves to Elmore to live with them and attend Elmore Junior High. They are shown to share multiple personality traits and interests that manifest in their own unique ways; alternative lifestyles (Mx. Small being a hippie, Sophie being a hipster, both like organic food and gardening), upbeat attitudes, and musical talents (Mx. Small plays a guitar, Sophie plays a ukulele, both sing). On a sadder note, they both also have a sour relationship with Boris (Mx. Small's brother and Sophie's father) due to their eccentric personalities; Boris all but disowned Mx. Small when they left home for Elmore as a teen and made it a point never to let Sophie have contact with them until she left herself, and it's implied that Boris resents Sophie because of how much she reminds him of Sybil.

Animorphs

  • In Dæmorphing, Tobias has a lot of things in common with Tom; both of them become nothlits while trapped in underground Yeerk facilities, get along well with the free Hork-Bajir, and have blonde human girlfriends whose names begin with R. All of these traits apply to canon Tobias as well, but Tom has a completely different role in the story.

Danganronpa

  • let's go out with a bang!: Miu and Kokichi reflect each other. Both cling to their awful personas from the game as defense mechanisms, cruelly lashing out at their classmates — and especially each other. It's Personal for both of them, due to Miu's murder attempt and Kokichi countering by engineering her death. Each sees the other as Beyond Redemption, and the rift between Miu and the rest of the class is strengthened by what she sees as a Double Standard: Kokichi is constantly harassing and baiting her, but they seem to be more tolerant of his behavior while chiding her whenever she lashes out in response. Once the convention gets locked down, both investigate the situation independently, and their distrust of their peers creates yet more problems that they blame on others (and each other) rather than acknowledging their own mistakes.

Danny Phantom

  • Danny Phantom: Stranded: Alicia and Beatrice appear as different as night and day, with Alicia being a middle-aged woman from the countryside in Arkansas while Beatrice is a wealthy older woman from New York. The one thing that they have in common is that they have a strained relationship with their in-laws, can be pushy and unreasonable, and look down on a particular group (men for Alicia and the middle class for Beatrice). The key difference between them is that despite her flaws, Alicia has redeeming traits and some soft spots, while Beatrice shows no redeeming traits at all.
    • Alicia may have a strained relationship with her brother-in-law, but she never did anything too extreme towards him (aside from criticizing him and telling Maddie that she is better off without him). She also has never mistreated her niece and nephew, and her dislike of men does not extend to nephew Danny. However, Beatrice has mistreated and abused Johnathan for years during his marriage to Stella. She was also very controlling and critical with her husband, children, and grandchildren, constantly ordering them around and being demanding with them.
    • Alicia may dislike men in general because of her mistreatment by her former husband (who had an overbearing mother who always criticized her, and he never stuck up for her). But that did not stop Alicia from sympathizing with Jonathan when she learned that he was also mistreated by his former mother-in-law, showing that despite her prejudices against men in general, Alicia knows that they can be mistreated and be in the right. Beatrice has a deep prejudice and hatred towards the middle class, and she refuses to see any of them in the right, even when they protect her family or when they genuinely make an effort to help.
    • Both Alicia and Beatrice want to pair Star with a boy of their choice for their own reasons (Alicia wants to pair Star up with her nephew in hopes of one day having a rich relative, while Beatrice wishes to pair Star up with Donovan solely because he is from a wealthy, blue-blood family). Unlike Beatrice, Alicia has the decency to ask Star which boy she wants to be with and respect her choice on the matter. On the other hand, Beatrice simply does not respect her granddaughter's choices and pushes her to be with a boy she hates and does not care for; that boy tried to force a kiss on her and hit her when she refused him.
    • Also, while Alicia has a strained relationship with her brother-in-law and has her own personality faults, she does still show consideration and care for her own relatives and is still welcomed by her family at the end of the story, while Beatrice destroyed her relationship with both her daughter and granddaughter by the end of the story and is expelled from their lives.

Dragon Ball

  • In What If Videl Was A Z-Fighter?, Frieza expresses Villain Respect towards Gohan, pointing out that they're both sons of powerful men who possess incredible potential, as well as both of them being intelligent and cunning self-made men. Gohan objects at first, but when Frieza explains his reasoning, he admits that he's not totally wrong.

The Fairly OddParents!

  • Never Had a Friend Like Me: Amanda Adams's parents both reflect the worst flaws of the Turners and the Dinklebergs.
    • The Adams and Turners both neglect their only child and would often put their needs before the child. The Turners can be loving parents to Timmy, while the Adams are hateful jerks who can't stand having a kid at all and won't even give Amanda the most basic things like nice clothes and a babysitter.
    • The Adams and the Dinklebergs both are couples that are wealthy and decide not to have children. However, the Dinklebergs can still be kind to children like Timmy, while the Adams are plain child haters who find any interaction with children repugnant.

Final Fantasy

  • Beloved (FFVII): Cloud and Genesis both lost years of their lives being experimented upon after being betrayed by ShinRa. Both also understand what it's like to face the slow march of death due to their respective conditions, and bond over their similarities, as well as their ability to relate to each other's plight.

Godzilla / King Kong / MonsterVerse

  • Abraxas (Hrodvitnon): As the story goes on, more parallels emerge between the Two Beings, One Body protagonist Monster X and other characters; namely Ghidorah, Godzilla, Thor, Manda, Susan Graham, Alan Jonah and Madison Russell. Likewise with Thor and Mark Russell, with Mark and Ren Serizawa, and with Madison Russell and Maia Simmons. For some examples: Godzilla is arguably a reflection of what Monster X (particularly the half of them that's Vivienne Graham) will be like after living for long enough, Thor is grieving a familial loss and has imprinted on a Replacement Goldfish not unlike Vivienne's grief over Serizawa's death which influenced her emotional bonding with Monster X's San half, and San's backstory and former subservience to his "Eldest Brother" makes him similar to Madison Russell (although neither character comments on this).

Harry Potter

  • A Bitter Goodbye posits Godric Gryffindor and Salazar Slytherin to both be so stubborn, prideful, and unwilling to compromise on their beliefs that they can no longer get along.
  • Harry Potter and the Methods of Rationality: It turns out that Harry and Snape, despite their differing personalities, have very similar perspectives on the Muggle and Wizarding Worlds' differences in legal proceedings due to having both initially been raised by muggles.

Jackie Chan Adventures

  • The Ultimate Evil: As the story goes on, the similarities between Valerie and Shendu (who are actually cosmic Others) become increasingly evident. They both prefer one of their parents over the other (Val was closer to her late father than she is to her still-living mother, whilst Shendu has nothing but contempt for his demonic Disappeared Dad but has some unresolved abandonment issues concerning his Missing Mom), they both resort to lies and dishonesty borderline-habitually, they both despise Valmont, they're both willing to cross nearly any boundary necessary when they're set on a goal, and they're both frightening when pushed to anger.

Miraculous Ladybug

My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic

  • Bride of Discord: Both Discord and Fluttershy believe that they can't find love, especially not with each other. Discord believes that he will only ever be seen as a monster due to his appearance, while Fluttershy was bullied so heavily as a filly that she can't bring herself to believe anyone could come to care for her.
  • How I Lost My Mother: Cozy Glow reflects a few other characters:
    • Both she and her aunt Luna were betrayed by Princess Celestia, lashed out in anger over this betrayal, and were punished by Celestia, who refused to offer any kind of compromise or understanding.
    • Like Tempest Shadow, she had her horn taken away, leaving her unable to perform unicorn magic; this spurred both of them to make a Deal with the Devil in hopes of finding some way of reclaiming their lost powers again.
  • In Pony POV Series, Nightmare Eclipse/Paradox, Twilight's potential future Nightmare is this to Discord. Eclipse went Nightmare in the first place to punish Discord for his crimes after a millennia under his thumb...but quickly became so addicted to revenge on him that she became just sadistic, uncaring, and monstrous as Discord himself, rebooting the timeline and erasing everyone in it countless times over just to have her revenge on him. By the time we meet her, she's referring to everypony except Twilight herself as 'NPCs' with all the apathy one would expect, no different than Discord's calling ponies 'toys.' In fact, by this point, the only reason Discord is even an Evil Overlord by now is Eclipse won't let him change. In the end, she realizes this when Twilight's parents hold her in place for the Bearers to beat her...just like Discord's own mortal mother did to him when Celestia and Luna beat him originally and for the entire reason.

Odd Squad

  • All Mixed Up!: Oksana, Precinct 13579's head chef, is revealed to be similar to Mariana Mag in every way but alliance. Oksana loved music and music theory the way Mariana loved language, and tried to convince the boss of Precinct 13579 at the time, Olesya, to incorporate it into Odd Squad doctrine. Olesya shot down the idea and told her to never speak of it again. As a result, Oksana developed a loner personality and kept quiet about Mariana's rebellion. Mariana, on the other hand, did the same thing — she asked Oprah to incorporate language into Odd Squad doctrine, since it was what she was good at, and was, in time, reprimanded for it. As a result, she made a Face–Heel Turn and rebelled against Odd Squad, taking revenge on Oprah. What's more, Mariana and Oksana were once partners back when Mariana was known as Ocean.

Ranma ½

  • Heated Storm Yields a Wild Horse's Heart: Ranma and Nabiki hit it off due to sharing a trickster's sense of humor, allowing them to turn teasing each other into a bonding activity. They also share a pragmatic attitude towards making money; Ranma hints that he used to pick pockets as a child, and is happy to let Nabiki run bets on his duels so long as he gets a cut of the profits. He also doesn't see anything wrong with her photo shoots of Akane, though he isn't aware of the full story there.

RWBY

  • Relic Of The Future: Jaune gradually comes to admit that him and Ozpin are more alike than he would've liked to admit, as they're both intelligent and fierce chessmasters with powerful connections and questionable morals, whom are opposed to Salem, and they both form a secret inner-circle of loyal followers around themselves: Qrow, Summer, Taiyang and Glynda for Ozpin; Raven, Ironwood, Summer (on-off), and even Cinder of all people for Jaune.

A Song of Ice and Fire

  • The Blacks, the Greens and the Reds: Viserys and Aegon both have preconceptions about how things should be, trying to deny anything that contradicts their respective worldviews, and throw tantrums when confronted directly with how reality doesn't line up with their ideals. Viserys is convinced that Alicent and Rhaenyra hate each other, ensuring that civil war is inevitable. Aegon, meanwhile, remains convinced that he is the heir and future king, as his sister Rhaenyra can't possibly desire the Iron Throne for herself.

Stargate SG-1

  • "Child of the Ancients" reveals that, during Daniel's Ascension, he visited Sam and they ended up conceiving a child, but Oma had to take the child away for its future safety and erase Sam's memory of the encounter (Daniel naturally forgot it after he returned to human form). After the Ori and Adria come to the Milky Way, SG-1 discover the child, who has been raised on a planet where the locals inherited at least some technology from the Ancients. Liam Carter Jackson is swiftly established as a mirror to Adria in every way, as he was conceived purely through an act of love by his parents just because they loved each other where Adria was conceived as part of the Ori's agenda, Oma keeping Liam in hiding until the time came for him to confront Adria.

Tolkien's Legendarium

  • The Heart Trilogy: Freyja and Kathryn both had an oppressive and abusive mother and Kathryn herself inwardly identifies with Freyja about this when they first meet. Kathryn's mother tried to repress her magic through misguided methods out of fear for her safety, whereas Andraya demands her magicless daughter to sire a magical child with Smaug in Heart of Ashes. Kathryn openly screamed at her parents before fleeing them once she'd had enough of the abuse, whereas Freyja is meek and completely submissive to her mother's demands despite her obvious wish to the contrary. Kathryn has outlived her mother by more than a century, while Freyja's mother outlives her by a short time. Kathryn avoids people due to how she's been treated in the past, whilst Freyja is like a wary rabbit when interacting with men on her own due to her mother's control.

Winx Club

  • The Winx Club Play Dugeons and Dragons: Played for Laughs and Lamp Shaded when Roxy announces her D&D persona is a half-elf ranger, the same thing Bloom was about to pick for herself. It's implied that her reasons are similar to Bloom's—the feeling of not quite fitting in on either Earth or Magix due to having been raised unaware of their magic and legacy and having a beloved pet as their companion. Roxy also gives her character the same 'princess of a lost kingdom' backstory that she and Bloom share.
