You don't create the 21st century's biggest animation sensation and rake in billions of dollars without creating a few memes along the way.
To add a meme, use the following format:
- The meme. [[labelnote:Explanation]]The explanation behind the meme, if necessary.[[/labelnote]] ExplanationLike this.
- Further mutations and successor memes, if any.
- "The polar vortex was Disney's publicity stunt!" ExplanationA polar vortex occurred in January 2014 when Frozen was gaining a large amount of popularity in theaters, covering a large portion of North America in cold, ice, and snowy weather. Fans began to jokingly speculate that it was all an elaborate publicity stunt to get people to see Frozen as a result of the fitting setting.
- Alternatively, the Vortex was Elsa's doing. She will thaw it when she gets her Oscars. ExplanationThe weather continued into February 2014, blowing snowstorms and freezing temperatures across the U.S., all while Frozen was in theaters and the Disney company was showing special showings in L.A., along with releasing a sing-along version. Going off of the meme that Elsa caused it, fans joked that she was causing the winter weather to perpetuate to make the movie more fitting to see and sway the Oscar voters.
- "Oh, look at that. I've been impaled". ExplanationOlaf is mildly amused when he manages to impale himself through his midsection on an icicle. It's been used as a way of making light of fictional characters' deaths by impalement. It's also been joked that this proves he is evil enough to laugh at the face of death.
- I saw Frozen today! ExplanationCombining the film with the ubiquitous "Christ! I was frozen today!" meme from Hulk Hogan's So Bad, It's Good film Suburban Commando.
- "Let it go, let it go, can't hold it back anymore..."Explanation Elsa's "I Am Becoming" Song, the movie's most iconic track.
- Even before the release of the movie, the scene in which Elsa struts to the balcony of her ice castle◊ near the end of "Let It Go" became especially popular, thanks to her Supermodel Strut. As a result, people commented that her hips don't lie.
- Several lines of the song, such as "The cold never bothered me anyway." and "I don't care what they are going to say." have been used in response to any form of hate towards the film.
- Ever since "Do You Wanna Build a Snowman" came out, people took images from any show, film, or comic of two people standing on either side of a wall or door and captioned it with the song due to the stark similarities.
- When The LEGO Movie was new, a number of images to the effect of "Do you wanna build a SPACESHIP◊!!" surfaced, and it was placed in the same spirit of said original song.
- Elemental Elsas Explanation Re-imaginings of the film in different Alternate Universes, with Elsa having a different Elemental Power. The most popular is fire, though there's also plants, water, wind and lightning, among others. Elsa's ethnicity also varies between the different elements.
- Tropical Magic. Explanation A small subset of the Elemental Elsas meme, this comes from Anna's line "Snow... it had to be snow. She couldn't have had tr-tr-tropical magic that covered the f-f-fjords in white sand and warm fire."
- "Oh, [Character]. If only there was someone who loved you." ExplanationThe line said by Hans to Anna when he reveals he's seeking to murder Elsa. The meme is that certain images from a movie get captioned with this Wham Line, making it look as if these characters, too, are betraying their so-called loved ones.
- The Southern Isles send their regards. Explanation (MASSIVE spoilers for the movie and for Game of Thrones) A caption for the scene where Hans is about to strike down Elsa after he induces a nasty Heroic BSoD in her, and calls up Roose Bolton's signature Pre-Mortem One-Liner from the infamous Red Wedding of Game of Thrones, acting as a reference as to how Hans' sociopathic, manipulative nature wouldn't seem out of place in Westeros.
- "All men do it."explanationKristoff claims to Anna that all men pick their noses.
- "I don't think she knows how to knock..." explanationOlaf comments on Anna's hesitation before knocking on the doors to Elsa's ice castle.
- "I'm gonna tell him." "Don't you dare!" Explanation Kristoff and Anna's reaction to Olaf's naive song about wanting to see summer whilst being unaware that he'll melt in the heat, very often used as a series of reaction gif at people being woefully clueless on sites such as Tumblr.
- On Tumblr, a lot of people have joked that the possible Frozen 2 would, upon release, turn out to be the equally-awaited Ralph Breaks the Internet. This escalated when Frozen 2 was officially announced. And Ralph Breaks the Internet showing text promising a sneak peek at Frozen II... before showing Ralph singing "Never Gonna Give You Up" instead.
- In the French-speaking world: "Libérée, délivrée" Explanation"Freed, saved", the French title to Let It Go, Elsa's "I Am Becoming" Song. Used after someone survived a huge ordeal.
- The "watching the hours tick by" bit from Do You Wanna Build a Snowman gets some attention as well, probably because of the way Anna watches the pendulum as it swings back and forth, almost hypnotically.
- Deadpool 2 accuses "Do You Want To Build a Snowman" of ripping off the melody of "Papa, Can You Hear Me" from Yentl, which no one realizes. Many fans naturally took up the cause of informing the world, despite the vast majority probably never having seen the latter film.
- Elsa's line "You can't marry a man you just met!" gets hilariously compared with previous Disney Princess movies or any other occasions, and especially so when the last Disney film Idina Menzel was in had her doing exactly this.
- Many fans have suggested "For The First Time In Forever" to be played once the Disney Theme Parks reopen after the COVID-19 pandemic, owing to the song being about finally having the castle doors opened to the public bearing very stark similarities of lockdown due to the pandemic coming to an end, allowing many industries to reopen their doors once more. Come 2021, and the Disneyland Resort posted a video of their reopening on their YouTube channel... featuring a heavily abridged version of this song.
- The Tear Jerker scene of Elsa mourning over a completely frozen Anna briefly caught the attention of the Team Fortress 2 fandom, as one of the classes of said game — the Spy — could wield an unlockable weapon named the Spycicle, an icicle that turned enemies into similar frozen statues upon backstabbing them with it. Cue jokes about Anna getting killed by the Spy with the Spycicle, with a popular edit of the scene placing the latter in the background as he laughs uproariously at Elsa's pain.
- "Adele Dazeem"Explanation John Travolta, a dyslexic, mispronounced Idina Menzel's name when introducing her at the 2014 Oscars to the point where it was completely wrong. Following this joke, a website where users can "Travoltify" their names was created. And then, If/Then also mangled her name on their official programme.
- Because Anna and Kristoff refer to the latter's adoptive family of trolls as "love experts", people have used it as an Unusual Euphemism for Internet Trolls.
- Making Elsa say lots of ice-related puns has become rather popular.
- "Yoo-hoo! Big summer blowout!" ExplanationThis is how Oaken greets Anna as she enters his shop. It became a popular quote to use on Tumblr, including using it as the punchline to a knock-knock joke or as an image macro.
- "Is that Moana's grandma?" Explanation When the first trailer was posted to Twitter, someone noticed that the character of said character's grandmother was re-used for a villager who talks to Anna and Elsa, similar to the Baby Moana model being reused in Ralph Breaks The Internet.
- Because Bruni, the creature Elsa is showing holding in the trailer, seems to resemble him, many fans tend to compare it to Pascal or call it "a new toy" because of Frozen being a notorious Cash-Cow Franchise and the creature looking like something that could be reproduced in figurine or plush form.
- "What would I do without you?" "You'll always have me". Explanation In a scene where Elsa is anxious, Anna tries to reassure and encourage her.
- What’s Elsa doing in the realm of darkness?ExplanationThe beach Elsa is on in the teaser looks suspiciously similar to the beach in the dark realm of Kingdom Hearts. Arendelle being a world in Kingdom Hearts III only adds to this.
- Upon seeing the first teaser and official trailers of the film, people jokingly called the film Tangled The Series: Before Ever After, for the similar plot of going outside the kingdom to discover its past secrets tied to the characters. Many are joking that Anna and Elsa might run into Rapunzel and Cassandra.
- Olaf's recap of the first movie. Explanation Olaf does this to introduce himself to the villagers that they meet. Many of the lines from this scene are memes, especially "Well, at least they have their parents. Their parents are dead!", which people use to describe the cliche in Disney movies where parents die.
- "INTO THE UNKNOOOOWN!" "I can hear you..." ExplanationA meme on TikTok in which a disorted version of the chorus of "Into The Unknown" plays, followed by the normal version of the song's first line. It is often accompanied by text describing a situation where people would be shocked to hear someone singing as the people in the video act it out.
- Why is Samantha?ExplanationOlaf wondering where Samantha is has led people to ask who Samantha is, which inevitably led others to ask this question, inspired by an exchange in Avengers: Infinity War where a character asking "Where is Gamora?" led to other characters asking other "W-" questions about her: "Who is Gamora?" and "Why is Gamora?".
- "Frozen II is more dangerous than Joker"ExplanationFollowing an incident in which a machete fight occurred at a showing of the former film despite endless controversy surrounding the latter film's violent content and the possibly of copycat crimes inspired by it, this quote made rounds on the internet making fun of the news media for exaggerating and borderline anticipating threats of violence influenced by Joker only to be let down.
- "Frozen 2: Anna and Elsa Discover Canada" jokes appeared due to the main setting being an autumn maple-leaf forest to the North.
- The shot of Elsa loosening her hair into a ponytail has become a meme almost instantly. It inspired some jokes about Elsa seeing you come home tired and trying to "make your day better", or simply some guys (and girls) gushing how attractive she looks while doing this. It spawned a lot of comparisons to Céline Dion.
- Long ago, the village of Northuldra lived in harmony. Then, everything changed when Arendelle attacked. Explanation(spoilers)Due to the premise of the movie involving spirits, the elements, and a nomadic tribe, fans were quick to latch onto the similarity the movie shared with Avatar: The Last Airbender.
- Elsa being described as a "U-Haul lesbian" thanks to the ending where, at Honeymaren's suggestion (someone she's known for a single day), Elsa leaves Arendelle to live in the Enchanted Forest. Even U-Haul themselves got in on it.
- Arendelle's not a place, it's a people.Explanation(spoilers)A quote borrowed from another recent movie where a royal heir discovers their kingdom's less-than-noble past and is given the opportunity to initiate its destruction. The meme is mostly used by people who wish the movie had taken that route, or initially expected it to do so.
- Anna, I don't feel so good...Explanation(spoilers)Olaf disintegrating in Anna's arms has some similarities to the death scene of a certain character from another Disney film

- Elsa the White. Explanation(spoilers)Elsa's costume switch into a white dress at the end of the movie reminds fans of Gandalf.
- Frozen 3: Find SamanthaExplanationIn a one-off gag, Olaf calls for someone named Samantha, then laughs, saying he doesn't know anyone named Samantha. People got curious about this supposed Samantha, and began joking that Samantha would appear in the third film.
- Kristoff is lost in the 80's explanationKristoff's main solo song "Lost in the Woods" is an intentionally extremely cheesy 80's-style Power Ballad with the music video to match. Despite not having much to do with the plot, it's widely considered one of the most memorable parts of the film, especially for those familiar with the music the song parodies. People also consider it doubly appropriate that Kristoff sings a song about being lost and not knowing what to do, since he doesn't actually do much of anything important in the movie.
- Mark Froster/Mark Forster, die Disneyprinzessin (Mark Forster the Disney princess)explanationIn the German-dubbed release of the movie, German pop singer Mark Forster covered "Into the Unknown" (or "Wo noch niemand war," "Where No One's Ever Been," to use the German title) over the credits. His countertenor voice meant he didn't need to drop the octave as a male singer normally would've had to. For German fans of the movie, this was enough to induct him as an honorary Disney princess, and he was given the nickname "Froster" (after Frost, which has the same meaning in German as in English) to go with it.
