Big World, Big Adventures was an Embarrassing Disaster (and How to Fix It)

Thomas' Best Christmas.. err.. Thanksgiving(?) Episode

  • He says that the snow particles on Percy's face in one scene always reminded him of stubble, then plays an edited clip of Percy growing a beard, followed by Harold staring at him in stunned silence.

     2021
The ENTIRE Model Series Timeline of Thomas & Friends – Every Major Event from Seasons 1-12 in Order
  • His memetic "explanation" for why Sir Handel disappeared for a few seasons.
Sir Topham Hatt: I'm banishing you to the Shadow Realm!
    Sir Handel: Noooo...! [Disappears]
    Sir Topham Hatt: Much better!
  • He plays creepy music while slowly zooming in on Billy's face.

EVERY Thomas Movie Ranked

  • Tug's frustration with the plot of Misty Island Rescue and the tone of his voice both increase until they reach a boiling point at the climax, and the Coconut Mall theme starts playing.
Tug: Why did the movie set up a whole rescue center, and a rescue team, only to not use them in the scene where they go rescue someone? GAAAAAA—
  • His summary of Magic Railroad:
Tug: I do not know what Britt Allcroft was on when she made this, but at least she made a pretty movie that's nice to look at.
  • He defends the narrow gauge engines blowing up at Thomas at the climax of Blue Mountain Mystery because "people act irrationally when they get angry. Don't believe me? Just go look at Twitter."

The COMPLETE History of Skarloey, the Little Old Engine — Sodor's Finest

  • He plays a clip from the Very Old Engines audiobook of Neil talking in a thick Scottish accent, then edits Peter Griffin saying "what?" over Skarloey.
  • After criticising the HiT era turning for Skarloey into an idiot child, he shows a clip of Skarloey sliding down a slope while saying, "Wheeeee!"... then cuts to him slamming into Peter Sam (original clip by FlyingPringle).

The COMPLETE History of James the Red Engine – Sodor's Finest

  • To illustrate that Percy got dumber and dumber in the HiT Era, he plays this edited clip:
Sir Topham Hat: The railway inspector arrives today.
    Percy: What's a railway testicles?
[Gordon stares at Percy in silence]
  • He blames James for getting Edward written off the show.
  • The CGI segment ends anticlimactically with Tug saying James didn't do much in the Big World! Big Adventures! era.
Tug: He imagined being a superhero once.
James: Never fear! Rail Rocket is here!
Tug: [TV colour bars] And then the show ended.

Thomas Seasons 14 & 15 Rewatch Highlights

  • The entire video is hilarious as Tug and friends grow increasingly frustrated with the episodes' stupidity.
  • Tug and his friends point out the nonsensical decision for Topham Hatt to send Gordon, his primary express engine... to a garbage dump as a punishment for not shunting some trucks.
Tug So Sir Topham Hatt's mad at Gordon because Gordon what, didn't shunt three trucks away?
???: Let me take my expensive express engine to go work at the garbage dump. Bro, what the fuck?
  • The group's reaction to James' moronic exclamation 'whiffy woo', which they quickly speculate is Scruff's pet name for Whiff.
  • Someone asks, "What is going on?" while watching "Henry's Health and Safety". Tug responds that it's the perfect summary of the episode.
???: And Rocky has no like control over this situation. Does that count as kidnapping?
    Tug: Yes.
  • Later in the same episode, the whole group bursts out laughing when the see Toby derailed — that is, standing on the grass between two tracks as if someone picked him up and put him there.
  • During "Victor Says Yes":
???: Do you think you make a good wage, working here?[at the Steamworks]?
FunBus9: To deal with this shit, you'd better.
  • During "Charlie and Eddie":
    • They make fun of Edward's dialogue which includes the word "turniest".
    Tug: "Turniest".
FunBus9: I'm about to say that to my girl to get her in bed.
    Tug: (laughing)
    • The group asks as to why the engines would need to deliver the mechanic to the mechanic shop... alongside Topham's broken-down car.
Tug: Why is he taking the car to the- to the mechanic? Why is the train taking the car to the mechanic? And why is the mechanic not at the mechanic?
???: They broke down, so the mechanic got out to him.
Tug: "Why would you take the mechanic to the mechanic where the mechanic works?
???: "Why would-, it-'s like -it's like you're treating the sy- (giggles) it's like you're the treating the symptoms before treating the disease!
    • Near the end:
Tug: Does Charlie just... not do work?
???: Nah, Charlie just goes around bullying old people.
  • Everyone says "WHAT?" in sequence when they see the logs land perfectly on the flatbeds at the end of "Jumping Jobi Wood!"
  • Tug is shocked by how many characters met the Logging Locos.
  • The pump car in "Stop That Bus" cracks everyone up so much that Tug declares the episode unironically funny.
Tug: They were riding in Bertie the whole time! And the pump car! The hand car came with them!
???: But they gotta take the trolley back, don't they? Dowager Hatt can't be in the same bus as peasant working class.

The Island of Sodor CGI Series Map! (Seasons 13-24) — Sodor Explained

  • After describing the rescue centre branchline, Tug talks about how relieved he is that Misty Island never appears after season 16 so he doesn't have to include it, then...
Tug: Boy, would I hate having to jump through hoops to try and explain Misty I—
Thomas: Ooh! I know! Going to Misty Island?
    [Beat]
Tug: FUUUUUUUUCK you, Thomas! Fuck you for making Misty Island canon in the Brenner era!
  • He has a minor breakdown when he comes to the conclusion that Duke is still in the shed in the CGI timeline, while "In the Hall of the Mountain King" plays.
Tug: Hey you two [The Fat and Thin Clergymen], start digging! That poor guy is still out there! And he needs rescuing ASAP! Don't worry Duke, we're coming to find you, and— oh wait, the show ended. Welp, sorry Duke.
    Duke: Oh well.

The COMPLETE History of Toby the Tram Engine — Sodor's Finest

  • "Toby really said fuck the police."
  • He goes over a list of how most of Toby's CGI plots involve him being scared of something, but doesn't blame Toby for being scared of the walking bridge.

Thomas & Friends Season 1 (1984) in Retrospect — The Thomas Retrospective

  • He describes Henry's spotlight episodes in the "characters" section, such as "The Flying Kipper", "Whistles and Sneezes", and...
Tug: The ever-famous "Sad Story of Henry", where he gets locked up in a tunnel forever and dies of starvation and we never see him again. [The background music stops, and he zooms in on Henry's sad face behind the wall] That's... that's what happened in this episode, right?

EVERY Railway Series Book Ranked

  • He explains that More About Thomas the Tank Engine was written because Thomas & Friends was contractually obliged to only adapt Awdry-written material at the time, and "a new Thomas season with shockingly little Thomas in it wouldn't fly." As he says this, he shows a clip where Thomas disappears screaming, then Percy and Toby look at each other and shout, "Hooray!"
  • He doesn't understand why Donald and Douglas have to impersonate each other in "The Missing Coach".
Tug: Of course the Fat Controller found them out! [Zooms in on Douglas' shocked face] Their plan was so brain-dead stupid!
  • During the transitions, he shows a list of all the books' covers in chronological order, and removes them once he's placed them. When he gets to #6, he realises that the remaining books accidentally make the shape of a penis.

Is Cars a Bad Franchise? – An Analysis of All 3 Cars Movies

  • He calls the Fantastic Beasts series "all those new Harry Potter films that no-one likes."
  • His dry summary of Cars 2:
Tug: It ends with a bomb getting strapped to Mater, but he doesn't blow up. Bad ending. Also, one of the spy cars dies a horrific death off-screen. [Shows clip of Rod Redline bursting into flames] Rated G for a general audience.
  • His whole rant about how Cars 2 raises too many questions about the worldbuilding. Highlights include an image saying "Car Jesus - they crucified him", an image of Lightning McQueen with limbs, and the thing that finally makes him snap is a glass of beer. Throughout this, "In the Hall of the Mountain King" gets progressively louder.

Did you know the engines' faces are actually... — Thomas Debunked

  • This short video is about the line in Henry and the Express that implies the engines' faces are on hinges. Tug is disturbed by the implications of this.
Tug: Imagine if they opened up like this in CGI. Like, Gordon and James are arguing or something, and then WHAM! Gordon opens his face and looks directly at James next to him. That just might be the creepiest thought ever, and I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.

The COMPLETE History of Hiro, the Master of the Railway — Sodor's Finest

  • He edits audio of Togo Igawa's character in Archer over a clip from the episode "No More Mr. Nice Engine":
Edward: And, [Diesel] spilled your milk this morning, Hiro!
    Hiro: [Glances at Diesel] Dickhole...

A Deep Dive into Thomas Lost Media — Reviewed & Ranked

  • He's baffled by The Institute of Innovation.
Tug: The film was humorous in tone, featuring two scientists experimenting with ways of how to improve Thomas. In the most insane ways imaginable. Including testing Thomas to grow limbs, injecting Percy with Botox [scream sound effect], and giving Sir Topham Hatt steroids. This is fucking real.
  • He wonders what a 2D musical version of Thomas would be like. Cue All Engines Go footage.
    Tug: ...Oh.

The Awdry Extravaganza 2 & Other Train-tastic Adventures — UK Trip 2022

  • At the start of the video, when he introduces his friends, he puts their Twitter handles on-screen... except for one of them, who "doesn't use Twitter (based)".

  • He and his friends rode in a diesel engine with the "best name ever": Dick Hardy.

Thomas & Friends Season 5 (1998) in Retrospect — The Thomas Retrospective

  • "One episode will be: Oh my god, that ship just crashed into a dock and knocked Cranky over, oh my god! And the next episode is a nice Slice of Life tale about how Sir Topham Hatt goes through hell in high water to get to his wife's birthday. Aww, he finally gets there in the end! And despite what he looks like, she's still happy to see him! And she kisses him and everyone laughs! Aww, it's so feel-good. AND THEN IN THE NEXT EPISODE, THE DAM COLLAPSES AND SWEEPS TOBY AWAY AND TOBY'S GOING TO GO OVER A WATERFALL! OH MY GOD HE'S GONNA DIE OH NO! And the next one is about how Percy finds a good luck package for Mrs. Kindley's daughter's wedding! Aww, he even gets a kiss at the end! How cute! HOLY SHIT A GIANT BOULDER IS CHASING THE ENGINES AND GOING TO KILL EVERYONE! OH MY GOD THE SHED JUST EXPLODED AAAH—"

How This Movie Derailed a Franchise — An Analysis of Thomas & the Magic Railroad
  • He's utterly bewildered by the scene in the rough cut where Mr. Conductor sniffs marmalade.

The COMPLETE History of Percy the Small Engine — Sodor's Finest

  • Him realizing the amount of times Percy has gotten stuck in water.
Tug: I don't know why this is a recurring thing.
  • To cap off his discussion of season 5, says that Percy is the only engine who's "gotten some action", then plays the clip of Mrs. Kindley's daughter kissing Percy with an added crowd going "oooooh" sound effect.
  • He plays the memetic clip of Michael Angelis saying "DON'T CALL ME DIRTY PERCY!", zooming in on Percy's face with each word, lowering the pitch, and giving him Glowing Eyes of Doom.
  • In the middle of discussing Percy's HiT Era Flanderization:
Percy: It IS a magic carpet! It can fly!
    Gordon: You're a fuckin' idiot.

Thomas & Friends Season 6 (2002) in Retrospect — The Thomas Retrospective

  • He quips that "The Fogman" was ahead of its time because Sir Topham Hatt learns that he shouldn't replace a human's job with an automated machine.
  • While wondering if things will only go downhill in season 7, he plays a clip of Thomas falling into water.

10 Hidden Gems of CGI Thomas

  • If you look very closely at the thumbnail, you can see Peter Griffin in Luke's cab.
  • This summary of the Nitrogen era:
Narrator: Thomas felt terrible! Thomas felt terrible. Thomas felt terrible. Thomas felt terri—
    Plankton: ALRIGHT! I GET IT!
  • At the end of the clip where the tree falls into the lake in "Terrence Breaks the Ice", the screen turns grey and text saying "R.I.P. Tree ???? - 2017" appears. In the premiere chat, a lot of users pressed F to pay respects as it happened.
  • He compares "P.A. Problems" to "The Fogman", and riffs on a scene from the latter:
Thomas: Poor Cyril. He's been scrapped.
    Tug: Damn. Topham is ruthless!
  • He's stunned that they got away with "Springtime for Diesel"'s title.note
Tug: They compared Diesel the train to Hitler.

My ENTIRE Thomas & Friends Home Media Collection

  • He leaves in an outtake where he knocks a DVD case over.
  • He finds the HiT episodes so boring that he eventually gives up on describing them.
  • He makes fun of the "Truck Loads of Fun" DVD cover, which has a rainbow gradient and comic sans text, and calls it "a TRUE master piece of awful."

TUGS: The Stupid Dub (18+)

  • The reupload includes an intro parodying the Patchy the Pirate segments from SpongeBob SquarePants where Unlucky Tug and his friends look for the lost dub.
  • The voices range from Top Hat sounding like Donald Trump (and constantly talking about how proud he is to be an American), O.J. and Zorran sounding like Mr. Krabs and Plankton respectively (complete with their signature laughs) and Ten Cents being oddly shrill.
  • Captain Starr's opening narration has him lament that he can't get the Star Tugs to listen to him since he can't exactly beat a sentient machine.
  • Billy Shoepack sets up the dynamite "with his invisible boat hands".
  • Big Mickey curses O.J. as he drowns, leading O.J. to ask what he even did.
  • Kraka-toa is alive in this version (to Zorran's shock) and is screaming in agony as he dies, commenting he was supposed to retire next week right before dying.

Thomas & Friends Season 7 (2003) in Retrospect — The Thomas Retrospective

  • He criticises the wonky eyes on some of the human models, especially Sir Topham Hatt.
Tug: There is not a thought going on in this guy's head.
  • While talking about the negatives of the writing:
Tug: There are a couple instances this year where the people are used, basically, as the engines' hands, allowing something totally reckless to happen just so the plot can occur. Like Duncan's driver removing a danger sign so they can cross a bridge. Or Duncan's driver allowing them to proceed without a break van. Geez, Duncan's driver is kind of a fucking idiot, isn't he?
  • He dislikes Michael Brandon's over-enthusiastic narration in this season, and compares it to a clip of him in a World War II documentary... then realises that a World War II documentary probably isn't the best thing to compare Thomas to, accompanied by Ringo Starr saying "wheesh!" in the background.
  • As he asks why Rheneas didn't reverse as soon as he realised he was on the wrong track in "Rheneas and the Rollercoaster", he plays the footage backwards with Mr. Krabs' walking sound effect.

The Incredibles Saga — The Very Best & Worst of Pixar

  • He says there'll be no trains, boats, or cars in this video. The accompanying clips show Thomas, Sunshine, and Mater looking sad.

The COMPLETE History of Cranky the Crane — Sodor's Finest

  • Tug's struggling to pronounce "Pachydermophobia" (fear of elephants).
  • An edited clip of "Creaky Cranky" in which Cranky drops Thomas complete with a stock explosion effect.
  • He's shocked that he uses a scene from Misty Island Rescue as a positive example of something.
  • This edit of a scene from "A Cranky Christmas":
Cranky: That's what I thought when I dropped it!
[Salty and Porter stare at him with an added "bruh" voice clip]
    [...]
Cranky: Can't we just let it go? [Beat] LET IT GO!

EVERY Star Wars Ranked (Part 1) — The Original Trilogy

  • While questioning why Obi-Wan doesn't recognise R2-D2, he expects someone in the comments to bring up how some expanded universe novel mentions that Obi-Wan was lying to Luke because reasons, accompanied by a picture of a book titled The Legend of Glup Shitto.
  • He's confused about why an unnamed general in the rebel base is credited as a major character.
    Tug: WHO ARE YOU?

The Rev. W. Awdry's Island of Sodor Map EXPLAINED — Every Location in The Railway Series

  • After he explains that Crovan's Gate was the site of a bloodbath in the 11th century:
Tug: All of this bloody lore, in what is a book series about talking trains for kids. [Zooms in on Thomas' face] I love it.
  • He jokes that Sudrians are hallucinating that the trains are alive because they all have lead poisoning.
  • His attempts at pronouncing some of the location names in Sudric.

10 MORE Hidden Gems of CGI Thomas

  • At the start of the segment about "Happy Birthday, Sir!", he comments that Winston's driver doesn't seem to have a mind of his own.
Tug: You're not gonna speak up or anything, dude? You're just gonna sit there? Quietly? Awkwardly? Alright.
  • His only criticism of "Toad and the Whale" is that Oliver continues to dismiss Toad after learning his lesson.
Tug: What is your BEEF, dude?
  • Tug wonders if including three Big World! Big Adventures! episodes is a sign that he's losing his mind, accompanied by footage of an Imagine Spot involving Gordon and clowns.

My ENTIRE Thomas Capsule Plarail Collection

  • He uses his shocked Cranky figure to re-enact the scene where he falls over in "Cranky Bugs".

The COMPLETE History of Devious Diesel — Sodor's Finest

  • His increasing frustration about how Diesel keeps returning to Sodor.
Narrator: Diesel was sent home in disgrace.
Tug: Okay, this time has to be the last time. He's been sent away, like, three times at this point— yeah, goddammit.

Thomas & Friends Season 8 (2004) in Retrospect — The Thomas Retrospective

  • He criticises the Anvilicious morals and highlights them with this:
George Carlin: The morals of these stories were never jammed down the kids' throats. They weren't blatant, they weren't, um, in capital letters. They were gently massaged into the framework of the show.
Narrator: Emily was pleased. She'd arrived on time. Asking nicely was all she had to do.
    George Carlin: Uh.

EVERY Callback in CGI Thomas

  • In the intro, he talks about characters being written wrong (over footage of Skarloey sliding down the incline while saying "whee!") and disappearing altogether (over footage of Boco screaming as he disappears).

     2024
EVERY Number in Thomas & Friends Explained

  • He wonders why Gordon is covered in seaweed in one shot of Calling All Engines, then overlays a clip of Bill and Ben saying, "We'll take it to the harbour and dump it in the sea!"

A Deep Dive into Thomas Deleted Scenes

  • He's so bewildered by how the "sun worshippers" scene in Big World! Big Adventures! made it so far into production that he starts talking before the clip finishes.

The COMPLETE History of Edward the Blue Engine — Sodor's Finest

  • He hopes that the reason why everyone is so out-of-character in "Edward the Really Useful Engine" is because the writer had only seen season 1, then...
Tug: WHAT DO YOU MEAN, DAVID MITTON WROTE THIS ONE?! Oh my God, nothing makes sense anymore...
  • He wonders if the reason why Edward hates cranes so much in the HiT Era is because Big Mickey knocked him over in "Edward's Brass Band".

The Weird & Wonderful Oddities of Thomas Home Media

  • He talks about a complete series 6 DVD that uses working titles for some of the episodes on its box, and wishes that "Buffer Bother" had kept its original title, "Bill and Ben's Excellent Adventure".
