Funny / Ruby Gillman, Teenage Kraken

• In the second trailer and in the movie, after being told that she is a princess, Ruby's grandmother sits her on a throne in front of a crowd of smaller krakens and tells her to address her subjects. When Ruby realizes she’s going to be next in line to the throne, we have this gem, to which her subjects applaud:
  Ruby: I think… I am having… A PANIC ATTACK!
  • Made even funnier in the movie itself when Grandmamah gives her granddaughter an annoyed "Really, girl?" look afterwards.
• The reason Grandmamah gives as to why the heroic krakens are feared and evil mermaids are loved in both trailers is simple: humans are dumb.
• In Agatha's ad for her realty business, one of her customers happily states Agatha got her and her husband their dream home. Then worriedly admits she doesn't want to ask how.
• When a group of tourists ask why Ruby is blue, she insists it's because she's Canadian, which they all buy.
• When Arthur tries to explain to Ruby that her powers are a result of her body "going through some changes", this earns him a disgusted groan from Ruby.
• Ruby grabs one of her father's bottled ships, depicting kraken tentacles dragging a ship underwater, as a visual aid of the stories her mother told her were a myth.
  Brill: I'm offended.
  Arthur: It sells.
• After Ruby blows up at her family from the stress of the whole "Giant Kraken" revelation, Brill notes that she forgot to yell something to him, to which Ruby shouts "I DON'T EVEN KNOW YOU!!!"
  • Right after that, Ruby lets out her frustrations by screaming head-first into her beanie bag chair.
• The Reactive Continuous Scream between Ruby and the librarian is quite the stressful moment, but what makes it worthy of some giggles is that it comes right after Ruby tries to shush the librarian, obviously with no avail.
• Agatha is worried that Ruby will run away from her for keeping her Giant Kraken heritage from her, but Arthur reassures her that she wouldn't do that... only to hear the door creak and discover Ruby trying to sneak out.
  Arthur: Well, this isn't helping my case.
• When Connor falls into the water, Ruby tries to save him by throwing out a lifesaver, but finds that the rope isn't long enough, causing her to shout "Son of an anglerfish!"
  • Agatha says the same thing when she accidentally runs over Brill in her rush to get to Ruby.
• Agatha's reaction to Nerissa smashing the house she just sold to a soon-to-be family earlier in the film:
  Agatha: HEY! That house was in Escrow!
• While Ruby passes by the destroyed library, we see that the Librarian is distraught that Ruby destroyed the "YA Zombie Romance" section.
• During the Training Montage of Ruby's powers, Ruby practices using her laser eyes by summoning her passionate fury, but once she turns them on, she flails around from the sheer force of the blast.
  • Later on, she low-key zaps some students' phones that were playing Gordon's "Kraken Ahoy!" video with her laser eyes on a lower level.
• When the final battle results in a big wave of water heading for the prom ship, Bliss (Ruby's goth friend who's been "catastrophizing" in all of her appearances) is about to "face it unafraid", but is quickly taken aback as the wave starts to tip over the boat.
• After kidnapping Nerissa in her normal mermaid form, Gordon makes a livestream where he apologizes, while Nerissa pushes his face aside to see how many likes they're getting.
  • If you read close in the comment section, you'll see some of the comments confuse Nerissa as a kraken instead of a mermaid.
