Funny / Be Cool, Scooby-Doo!

Go To

In General

  • Anytime Shaggy and Scooby pull a Bavarian Fire Drill to trick the monster and escape. The rest of the gang have also pulled this and even one of the villains pulled it on Shaggy and Scooby. What helps sell these is, for whatever reason the "monsters" go along with it for a while.
    • By far one of the funniest was in "Renn Scare" where Shaggy and Scooby trick the Jester ghost by acting like it's an audition for a comedian. They end up breaking his confidence so much he sadly leaves on a bus back home to bemoan the situation and just when he falls asleep does he realize he's been duped.
    • Even better in "Worst in Show" Where Shaggy is teamed up with Velma instead of Scooby and Velma has no idea what’s going on.
    • And Gargoyle Makes Three, brought to you Running For Your Life, a subsidiary of For The Love Of All That Is Precious, Please Help Us!
    • The greatest example of this was in "Professor Huh?" where the eponymous villain actually reversed the trope onto Shaggy and Scooby, causing them to scream the same frustrated roar the monsters do.
    • Even one of the cops chasing them screams it when he's been duped. His partners asked him why and he replies "just felt right."

"Mystery 101"

  • This incarnation of Daphne's Establishing Character Moment with her puppets of the entire gang. And her puppet has its own puppet, which also has its own puppet, and so on. And somehow, she makes them all talk in stereo.
    • As a result, her love of puppets becomes a recurring thing through the entire series (with the fake beard second).
  • "Hey, like, are puppets stealing the Mystery Machine?"
  • Daphne using the puppets to say or make fun of what her friends are thinking. For example, when everyone is reacting to the Mystery Machine's disguise below.
Scooby: (opens his mouth to say something)
    Puppet Scooby: Ruh?
Scooby: (gives Daphne a funny look)
  • Fred disguises the Mystery Machine by pressing a button that makes it look like it's been stripped for parts and vandalized, as according to him the best security is looking like you don't need any. It also has an automated crossbow, which shoots down a bird.
    Velma: And crossbows.
  • When Scooby and Shaggy discover the fancy campus vending machines and one of them gets jammed as they try to use it, Shaggy tries to reach in and get the food out, followed by a "ding" sound as it Smash Cuts to him now stuck in the machine. Then Scooby follows suit, then the Monster of the Week. The duo then try to escape by pushing the machine forward from the inside, until it falls over and breaks.
  • When the gang are worried about their inability to catch the ghost, Daphne laments that her puppet of herself is missing one of its button eyes, and Scooby laments that he swallowed it.
  • Daphne's puppet committing a Heroic Sacrifice so Daphne can hold on to a rope; cue incredibly melodramatic slow-motion shot of the puppet falling in the rain as its perpetual smile becomes a look of despair, then massive Mood Whiplash when the scene changes to normal speed as it lands on top of a tree with a barely audible thud.

"Grand Scam"

  • The introduction of Daphne's quirk for the episode. Fred is explaining that "no one takes mysteries as serious as we do", while, in the background, Daphne parachutes in wearing the baseball team's mascot suit.
Daphne: Go, team! We'll get that ghost! Something, something, buttered toast!
Fred: (flatly and not even turning around) She's wearing the moth suit, isn't she?
  • Georgia playing dramatic music during Dustin Wallswreath's dark monologue.
    • Later on she plays the music during the chase sequence.
  • Daphne gets to play some reverse psychology on the ghost, something usually reserved for Shaggy and Scooby.

"Trading Chases"

  • The circular argument in the opening scene about mentioning the Egyptian exhibit.
  • Professor Hess and Professor Salasar arguing in hieroglyphics.

"Be Quiet Scooby Doo"

  • Velma accidentally causing Crystal Canopy's destruction when she was so determined to protect the location, she had a Face–Heel Turn becoming a second Crystal Crawler.

"Kitchen Frightmare"

  • Shaggy, posing as a waiter at his friend's restaurant, gets so hungry that he hallucinates the food enticing him to eat them. When the episode's monster, a yeti, causes food to get spilled on the floor, one of the pieces taunts "Five second rule!"
    • At one point, he holds a bowl of cheese balls in front of the customers who ordered it, with a smile. After a brief moment, one of the customers try to pry it from a reluctant Shaggy's hand.
    • Then, when he recommends some other costumers about some of the food, his stomach growls each time he lists them. Until it and Scooby's stomach growls so loud even Chazz Larkin can hear them from his kitchen.
  • Velma loses her collective cool trying to find a correlation between the yeti and the restaurant. It seems more important to her than why a yeti is attacking the restaurant.
    • And her tendency to throw a trash can every time she loses her sanity.
Fred: Uh, Velma? Are you okay?
Velma: Okay? OKAY?!? I think the better question is are YOU OKAY?!? (throws a trash can)
  • Daphne reveals her new quirk for the episode is stand-up comedy. Fred groans, remarking that he never thought anything would make him miss the fake beard from "Poodle Justice".
  • The Cheese Man. And the fact the employees take it very seriously.
The Cheese Man is very disappointed in you.
    • Later on in the episode, one of Chazz Larkin's employees tries to tell Chazz that he’s capable of helping to make the food. He then shows Chazz a horrifyingly created Mount Rushmore made out of cheese. Chazz responds by making a small sculpture of the Cheese Man throwing up into a trash can.
Chazz: This is how the Cheese Man feels about your sculpture.

"Me, Myself and A.I."

  • Fred attempting to use the Super Left Arm 3000 and it messing up every time; when he tries to use the magnifying glass it deploys a grappling hook and pulls Mr. Mann's desk towards him, when he tries to do a Rocket Punch he punches himself in the face, and when he tries to use the flashlight he almost hits Velma with a laser, which Daphne immediately snarks about ("The light bulb: 150 years of not almost blowing up Velma, and counting!").
  • When Shaggy's leg gets grabbed by something, which later turns out to be Mr. Mann:
Shaggy: Zoinks! It's a high-tech leg grabber of tomorrow! What hath man wrought? What hath man wrought?!
  • Shaggy and Scooby discovering the virtual-reality simulator, where Techy explains that they can travel anywhere in the entire universe with the simulator, such as Mars. However, the two insist on being taken to a food truck. One that happens to be outside the building, which Techy is not happy about.
  • The virtual reality chase sequence, which at one point has them going back to the academy from the first episode, meeting that episode's Monster of the Week again, and jumping off the roof with Daphne's puppet falling in the foreground.

"Where There's A Will, There's A Wraith"

  • Dennis Lutz, one of the heirs to the Lutz fortune, is described as a "cat person." Taken literally: he’s dressed as and takes on the personae of a cat. He even attacks the gang's flashlight beams against the wall.
  • There is a Running Gag of Velma being forced to carry everybody on her back, which she’s not too happy about. Even at the end, nobody will run away from the mansion that’s about to explode unless Velma carries them.
Velma: Seriously, is no one going to even address the whole sudden "Everyone jump on Velma" escape plan?! I'm clearly the smallest, least athletic one here!

"Gremlin On A Plane"

  • Shaggy and Scooby gorging on the soft-serve ice cream machines in the plane's food court and getting brain freeze each time.
Shaggy: We've got to work through the pain!
  • Also, when Scooby and Shaggy end up nodding when they mean to say "no" and shaking their heads when they mean to say "yes".
Shaggy: Oh no, Scoob! We've been scared out of sync!

"Sorcerer Snack Scare"

  • When Daphne notices the Sorcerer puppets.
    Daphne: Puppets!
Fred: (flatly and without hesitation) No.
  • Fred uses the Sorcerer Snacks to bribe Shaggy and Scooby to do acts of bravery. Velma and Daphne don’t see the ethical justification in it.
    • As thanks for solving the mystery, the CEO renames Sorcerer Snacks to Scooby Snacks, revealing that this is how the franchise's staple of Food as Bribe got started.
      Shaggy: Why not Shaggy Snacks?
CEO: Kids wanna buy snacks from a talking dog, not a beardy guy.
      Shaggy: That checks out.
    • Shaggy and Scooby's reaction to Fred declaring that bribing with Scooby Snacks will now be a regular thing.
Shaggy: Like, can you believe it? Fred's going to give us Scooby Snacks to do stuff we always have to do anyway!
      Scooby: Yeah! Hehehehe, sucker!
  • Velma loses her temper trying to communicate with the puppeteer, who only communicates through his puppets.
  • Throughout the episode, Daphne tries to express how utterly wrong the whole "Would You Do It For A Scooby Snack?" approach by "Team Bribe" is. When she offers Shag and Scoob the snacks freely, and they say they'll happily be live bait in return, Fred congratulates her on joining "Team Bribe" while Velma suggests that Daphne is being a Hypocrite. Poor Daphne can only wonder what just happened.

"Saga Of The Swamp Beast"

  • Shaggy and Scooby's throwdown with New Orleans food spiked with Grim Reappepper Hot Sauce. It's hot enough to burn off Scooby's eyebrows.
  • The Swamp Beast corners Velma at a gumbo-eating contest. She takes a bite of the hot sauce-laced gumbo and blasts off into space like a comet.
  • Vampire Daphne. Just everything about it.
    • When she tries to convince the gang not to quit, she gives a Rousing Speech about their "hunger", and when she gets to Shaggy and Scooby, she gives us this gem:
Daphne: Shaggy and Scooby, your hunger is for...well, food. It's pretty literal in your case.
  • Fred's Dude, Where's My Respect? when Chomps the Gator gets all the credit for solving the mystery.

“The Norse Case Scenario”

  • LIKE RUN BEFORE HE THINKS TO SWING IN THE MIDDLE!

"Be Cold, Scooby-Doo"

  • Fred's "danger radar" is nothing more than him anticipating Daphne hitting him with a snowball. Also, him wondering how he got to be the bait to catch the snow monster instead of Shaggy and Scooby.
  • Scooby And Shaggy's unique...distraction to keep the monster at bay, going full Disney song.
  • Velma's war on water in any form is resumed here as her attempts to ski are not very successful.
  • Fred not even wanting to ask about the odd disguise choices.

"Giant Problems"

  • Velma is commanding the Mystery Machine as she, Shaggy and Scooby effort to save Fred and Daphne from the giant. When the giant chases them, Shaggy questions Velma as to if she knows what she's doing. She replies "How hard can it be?" and flips a switch. The Mystery Machine reverts to its cinderblock-mounted wreck from "Mystery 101."
  • Daphne decides to adopt an Irish accent. Then Fred dons a suit of armor.
Daphne: (in Irish accent) Do ya really have to wear that ridiculous armor?
Fred: I'll drop the armor if you drop the accent.
Daphne: (in Irish accent) What accent?
    Fred: What armor?
  • Shaggy and Scooby running away from food. While referencing Green Eggs and Ham.
  • Velma's inability to understand Irish accents, though the gang, and presumably the audience, has no trouble understanding. When the bad guy is unmasked, he tries to explain that she mistook his motive but she jumps to the conclusion that he's trying to say he would've gotten away if not for You Meddling Kids.

"I Scooby Dooby Do"

  • Shaggy is about to ask for Fred if he'd help with his bowtie when he notices Fred is wearing an ascot and decides to ask for Scooby's help instead.

"Into The Mouth of Madcap"

  • The monster of this mystery is an insane, homicidal clown - who Velma, in a Mythology Gag to What's New, Scooby-Doo?, is deathly afraid of. The gang happens to be taking care of a kid this episode, and Velma manages to con the others out of taking her along into the clown's funhouse lair by saying she has to take care of him. The only person to comment on it is Scooby, who gives her props.
    Scooby: Well played, Velma.
  • Wayne, in general, is ludicrously apathetic except at the end where it's revealed he's an extremely smart mystery solver, leading to a lot of funny moments - like Velma ranting at him about her fear of clowns while he does nothing at all, or the characters' increasingly bemused attempts at getting him to react to anything. At one point, Daphne refers to him as "the generation of the future."
    Scooby: Wow. Game over, man.
  • After Oopsy the Clown is exposed as Madcap, the cops won't arrest him because they don't see anything illegal with a clown impersonating another clown. Then the previously mentioned cardinal code of clownhood is revealed to be Serious Business as clown cops show up to arrest Oopsy for breaking it. The clown cops mistakenly arrest and then release one of the regular cops and then arrest Oopsy. One of the clown cops tells Oopsy he has the right to remain silent should he choose to be tried as a mime.
  • When Scooby, Shaggy, Fred and Daphne explore a fun-house searching for clues, they run into a mirror reflecting retro versions of themselves.
    Fred: (shudders) Now that's unsettling.
Shaggy: Like, wow. I'm sure glad we don't look like that.

"There Wolf"

  • The beginning has Daphne commandeering the entire back of the Mystery Machine for a project, claiming that it's a surprise.
Fred: I don't like surprises! A surprise means you're doing something that, if you'd asked me, I'd say-
(Daphne pops out of the back, revealing that her thing this time is being a mime)
    Fred (horrified): NOOO!
    Shaggy: Like, no way!
    Scooby: You've crossed the line!
    Velma: Avert your eyes!
  • Continuing the running gag of everyone overreacting to Mime Daphne, when they get to the pet hospital the first character they run into screams in horror just from seeing her. Evidently, he lost his parents in a "tragic mime-related accident."
Miguel: I can still hear the complete silence of their screams! Screams! Screams! Screams!
  • The gag even extends to the usual bad guy catchphrase, when the aforementioned character turns out to be the culprit.
Miguel: And I would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for MIMES! ALWAYS MIMES! THEY'RE A PLAGUE ON HUMANITY! (the police start to cart him away) I HATE MIIIIIIIIIMES!!
    (Daphne looks uncomfortable)
  • The veterinarian mentions that he became a veterinarian because it was what he dreamed, like his brother who is now a space pirate. We later learn that he also has a sister who is a fairy mermaid princess and another brother who is a cowboy firefighter. The obvious difference between his career and theirs is later lampshaded :
Veterinarian: I should have listened to my sister the fairy princess mermaid and chosen a less practical career!
  • What was Scooby's mystery sickness? He was full for the first time in his life.

Worst in Show

  • The dog show owners all start going through the obstacle course on all fours to show their dogs the proper technique. Then two men get into a dogfight and bite each other.
  • A masseur finds his efforts frustrated by Fred's remarkably tense and sturdy shoulders, even breaking a chair across them to no avail. The final scene has him show up for another try with a jackhammer.
  • Shaggy and Velma trick the monster into going on a sightseeing tour across the city with them, then take off as the cabbie demands the $400 fare. The monster pats itself trying to find a wallet.
  • When Scooby wins the best in show commotion, the completion organizer notes that his ability to talk along with everything he did in the talent show, noting how that really is remarkable when she stops to think about it.

The Curse of Kaniaku

  • The Teaser has a sumo wrestler using a public bath seemingly get annoyed by a janitor's singing and stomping up to him, only to join the man in singing and dancing.

"In Space"

  • Mocking the franchise's love of putting the gang in exotic and impossible places for odd reasons, the episode begins with the Mystery Machine parked inside a space shuttle. After rattling off a bunch of complicated Excuse Plots to explain why they're there that all turn out to be wrong, they eventually realize they have no idea why they're there either... except Scooby, who points out that Fred just somehow parked there accidentally. After they unmask the villain, he spends the last moments of the episode pointing out how stupid everyone involved would be to let the Mystery Machine accidentally park inside a space shuttle right before it takes off.
  • Also Fred adds the expression "In Space" to many comments, not all his own, during the episode. Because Fred is excited The Mystery Gang is in space. He even gets the last word in the episode - saying "In Space" in Spanish.
  • When astronaut Feigenbaum suggests Shaggy and Scooby follow him when everyone splits up, they go into a long paranoid lecture about not trusting him, then do an immediate 180 when he mentions he's going to the kitchen.

Protein Titans 2

  • Tired of being repeatedly mistaken for Velma's father, mainly due to his ascot, Fred desperately tries to dress and talk like a stereotypically hip teenager.

Junkyard Dogs

  • Archibald, the owner of the land the dump is on, claims that he bought the property to build a dream house and then people started dumping trash there. Velma points to a sign that says "City Dump."
    Archibald: It was dumped there!
  • Shaggy and Scooby talk about encountering the monster twice and managing to evade it to Scooby's friend Axel, who correctly interprets this as just meaning that they turned and ran like babies. Shaggy defensively asks Axel if he's ever seen actual babies who could turn and run.

World of Witchcraft

  • Shaggy and Scooby describe Fred's strategy (of splitting up in hopes that the monster will always chase them) as logical yet sociopathic.

"Professor Huh?"

  • A lot of the title villain's actions qualify.
    • After the second part has him recap what happened in part one, his sock puppet tells the audience not to try this at home and he adds that you should try it in the dentist's office.
    • He runs a pretzel stand and gives Shaggy and Scooby a shoe, which Scooby later eats anyway.

"Halloween"

  • Daphne's Halloween costume? Zombie Velma, because Daphne's dressing up as Velma, if Velma decided to have fun and dress up as a zombie for Halloween. Scooby cites her logic as impeccable.

"Night of the Upsetting Shorts"

  • This dialogue:
Tess: Yeah, my Joseph's not really a lawyer surgeon. He draws cartoons.
    Maude: Oh.
    Bonnie: How old is he?
Grammy Rogers: That's not a real job, don't be silly!
  • When Scooby is paired with Fred, he’s given a nice view of Fred’s butt in some tight shorts, much to his dismay. He later encounters the Monster of the Week right behind him, causing him to shriek, look and shrieks at Fred’s shorts, and then turns back to the monster with a relieved smile.
