Fridge Brilliance

  • The fact that Dark Magician Girl's Berserk Button (to the point of physical violence) is being called a "dumb blond stereotype" makes even more sense once you realize that she's actually a Workaholic who spends a lot of her free time studying and reading books in order to become a better mage.
  • There are multiple instances where Kyuu is seemingly immune to various techniques that are inflicted on everyone in the party, to the point that even the party members comment on it. This makes sense, because he's also completely immune to status effects in combat.
  • Speaking of Dark Magician Girl, Kyuu's nickname is an acronym for her full name. It becomes popular. And yet it also seems that the Black Mage is well-deserving of her title... right, DMGnote ?
  • The effectiveness of combining Noel's Focus and Gunshot attack may be a mundane way to dish out heaps of damage for cheap, but it's easy to forget that Noel is The Gunslinger. And by using Focus, she's making a simple gunshot more powerful... a move that can be used at least 20-30 times by the time you have Focus to buff it. In essence, she's conserving ammo by aiming her shots more efficiently!
  • A minor one for Cain Argol. He named his first weapon, "Esper and Umbra", after the names of his two fallen friends. Fitting behaviour from a man who spent years of hunting in order to avenge them by finding and slaying the monster who killed them.
  • Another one for Cain. His moveset is probably one of the most original of all the playable characters. He knows sword techniques, offensive spells, a healing spell and a spell that buffs the attack. However, this moveset makes perfectly sense when you remember that, after the death of his friends against the Amphisbaena, he went alone on a quest to find the beast again and kill it. Since he was alone, he needed to be able to face any situation. Therefore the offensive spells for enemies that have strong physical defense. Therefore the individual healing spell if he had to recover, as he didn't have a healer to back him up. Therefore the spell to buff his attack and the sword techniques that hit all opponents, in order to be more efficient in combat even though he was alone.
  • A probable interpretation of Pete's actions during the Cyril Arc (Chapters 1 to 5). Before the Wham Episode at the end of the Arc, his behaviour may seem a little odd. Indeed, at first, his choice of launching a massive monsters attack at the end of Chapter 3, only to do nothing but protect the plague core in the next Chapter instead of taking advantage of the situation, makes it seem like Pete is holding the Villain Ball. However, The Reveal that Pete works for the Saint Lords shed new light on his actions. Pete is not a Big Bad trying to take over the region, he is an agent sent by his superiors to spread chaos in the region in order to facilitate its future conquest by the Saint Lords. Pete doesn't care if his attacks succeed or not, because his real goals are to: 1) protect the plague core and 2) weaken Cyril's defenses and create a climate of fear and distrust towards the knights supposed to protect the citizens (which is the case even if he loses).

Fridge Horror

  • The plagues and their effects.
    • The plague in Cyril dried out all water and sealed the region. Imagine what would have happened without BlueLake Town's Water Orb... In a sense, this plague was probably the worst. Because it could have killed everyone in a matter of weeks...
    • The plague in Da'Fur mutated the forests. The results ? Living killer trees, more aggressive monsters and poisonous mists. How many people were killed by these mutations ?
    • The plague in Kandur is driving people mad with paranoia and is pushing them to attack each other. Again, how many people were killed ? Even worst, how many people were attacked (and even killed) by their loved ones who had gone mad ?
  • Everything about the 3rd Star Inn (aka "Inn of Evil").
    • Basically, the inn keeper murders his guests by feeding them to giant insects. The inn probably existed for years. Just how many people were killed in such a gruesome way ?
    • The guests tried to fight back and to flee, before being basically DRAGGED by the giant insects. Imagine how they must have felt, alone and helpless against the monsters. Even worse, two of the victims were children.
    • Even more. Since the quest is optional, if you don't do the sidequest or if you fail the investigation, it means that the inn will still be active. And more innocent people will die.
    • Finally, if you bring Daffy Duck with you during the sidequest, you will learn that the inn keeper has an accomplice, Katz, and you will have to fight him in an Ultra Boss battle in order to capture him. However, you only find that if Daffy is in your team. If not, you only arrest the inn keeper. Which means that Katz becomes a Karma Houdini and will be able to continue his murderous schemes elsewhere.
