In Guide to: Career Day, one of Ned's career options is a school guidance counselor. Ned could conceivably make a great guidance counselor, what with his school survival guide—he's already giving much-needed advice to schoolkids, why not make a career out of it? Indeed, the guide itself might be part of the reason all the options suggested to him are school related, as working on anything for so long will affect your mental state.
It's also why several teachers and staff are so hard on Ned in particular, nearly everyone in the school, kids and adults alike, knows about Ned's guide (it's not like he tries to hide it) and the advice it give is genuinely helpful. But his laziness tends to get the better of him so many of the teachers try to break him out of his poor habits since they know he's a legitimately good student.
